Darth Vader Wii Sensor Bar holder

Darth Vader Wii Sensor Bar holderJust when you think that you’ve seen it all with the Wii, some Wii accessories can still surprise you. The $50 Darth Vader Nintendo Wii Sensor Bar Holder is just what it sounds like. It holds your sensor bar and makes it look like a lightsaber. Sorta.

So while you are swinging that Wiimote, you can imagine Vader encouraging you to use the force and join the darkside. You of course will shout NEVERRRRR and all of your friends will get scared and leave. It’s not your fault Vader only speaks to you and that no one else can hear him.

Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat for the Nintendo Wii

Posted in Wii Accessories by Conner Flynn on September 27th, 2009

Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat for the Nintendo WiiYou know what the Wii has been missing? The good old old Louisville Slugger. Makes sense when you think about it. Louisville Sluggers are for more than just baseball. I’m thinking a Wii home invasion title, where you wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of a robber. You could get points for different weapon choices. The good old old baseball bat is a favorite of home defense.

Then there’s all of the fighting games where you use a bat. Well, now you’ll be swinging a real one. Well, not real, but better than a plain wiimote. The Force Unleashed is a whole new game when wielding a bat.

Nintendo goes official with new $199 price for Wii

Posted in Nintendo by Shane McGlaun on September 24th, 2009

wii-sbPretty much everyone has heard by now that the Nintendo Wii is getting a price cut to $199. The cut has been reported as confirmed; but that confirmation was from a third party, not directly from Nintendo.

Nintendo has now gone officially official with the new price cut, which is set to go into effect on Sunday September 27. That is the day that we were expecting the price cut to hit on. I wonder if Nintendo rushed the official announcement out because so many leaks of the new price had been made.

Wii price drop confirmed: $199 this weekendLooks like the rumors were true. Nintendo’s Wii is about to get its first price drop after great sales for three years straight. The console has been sold for $249.99, but on September 27th the Wii will be priced at just $199.99.

Apparently an official announcement is expected this Friday, with retail stores beginning to sell at the new price on Sunday. Great time to get a Wii if you haven’t already taken the plunge.

Wii HD with new controller in 2011?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 21st, 2009

Wii HD with new controller in 2011?The Wii has some good titles, but I can’t say that it has many great titles. And playing in 480p has been disappointing. And where have the good games been lately? It makes sense to wonder if the big N has a console refresh coming soon.

Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix seems to think that there’s a new Wii coming. He also predicts that Microsoft and Sony’s motion efforts won’t be “truly successful.”

According to Wada, the next-generation HD Wii will have the same capabilities as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and this new Wii will also add a new motion controller. Sadly we have to wait until 2011, like previous rumors have stated.

Wii Football accessory is real

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 20th, 2009

Wii Football accessory is realNow when you throw your Wiimote at the TV, you can do so in style. This plastic football accessory might even make Madden sell better on the Wii. It comes from CTA Digital, the company behind the Wii bowling ball and iPhone steering wheel. They are no strangers to weird accessories.

This Football for your Wii opens up to hold your Wiimote and the face buttons of your controller are on top of the football. It’s compatible with Madden 10, Madden 09 All-Play, NCAA Football 09 All-Play, and several other football games.

Nintendo conference call confirms Sept. 27 Wii price cut?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 20th, 2009

$199 Nintendo Wii Best Buy ad spottedIf you’ve been waiting for some official word from Nintendo on the Wii price cut, here’s some good news. A Nintendo fan site who was listening in on a conference call claims that the company confirmed a $50 cut for Sept. 27.

Yes, it’s confusing and unconfirmed and not official at all. Nintendo hasn’t said a word to anyone aside from this alleged call. All should be revealed soon and we’ll let you know when we have more info.

$199 Nintendo Wii Best Buy ad spotted

$199 Nintendo Wii Best Buy ad spottedLast week it was a Toys R Us ad showing the Wii for a Wii-diculous $199. Now a Best Buy ad showing off the same price has surfaced. It could be phoshopped, we’ll just have to wait and see.

But given the recent drop in demand for the system, along with the fact that the PS3 and Xbox have both had price cuts, it seems like we are glimpsing the not so distant future. What’s $50 to Nintendo? They’re making a ton of money on Wiimotes alone.

Wii getting $50 price drop?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 14th, 2009

Wii getting $50 price drop?Weekly newspaper ads are pretty easy to fake, but we have a feeling that this one is real and if that’s the case, it means we’re getting a Wii price cut on September 27th. Either that or someone at Toys R Us has been hitting the crack pipe.

If it’s not true and you can expect a price cut next holiday season rather than this holiday season. Just be patient and we will see what Santa brings us. The other guys got a price cut, so Nintendo would naturally want to stay competitive.

Logitech wireless guitar and drums for Wii are rocking high prices

Posted in Controllers by Conner Flynn on September 9th, 2009

Logitech wireless guitar and drums for Wii are rocking high pricesApparently no one told Logitech that we are in a recession. The Logitech Wireless Guitar Controller and Wireless Drum Controller for Nintendo’s Wii are licensed for use with Guitar Hero and way overpriced. The axe sports a maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and metal frets. They even threw in a “noise dampening strum bar and fret buttons,” and a touch-sensitive slider on the fretboard.

The drums provide 3 drum pads and a pair of cymbals, along with the stainless steel kick pedal. A Wiimote slides into each, ruining the illusion.

LG goes all L-Wii with Magic Motion Remote Control

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on September 7th, 2009

LG goes all L-Wii with Magic Motion Remote Control Who knew that LG was crushing so hard on Nintendo’s Wii? They have it bad for Nintendo’s console. So bad that it is using the Wiimote concept for its new series of TVs called the Magic Motion Remote Control. It features both the typical channel and volume buttons and can be pointed at the TV to control on-screen menus and games. Probably nothing as cool as Mario Kart.

It also has the ability to place a cursor on-screen which can then be manipulated by movements like a flicking of your wrist. The remote goes on sale next year but LG is undecided as to whether it will offer it as an optional extra, or bundle it with its high-end TVs.

Nintendo offers Internet Channel free of charge

Posted in Nintendo by Shane McGlaun on September 2nd, 2009

nintendointernetchannel-sbThe Nintendo Wii has an Internet connection, which allows players to compete against each other in games online. The Wi-Fi access also allows the user to surf the Internet assuming the own the Internet Channel. The fact that you had to pay for the ability to surf the web on the Wii always bothered me.

Nintendo has announced that it is now offering the Internet Channel free of charge. The channel previously cost users 500 Wii points to purchase. The Internet Channel can now be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel.

Nintendo announces new colors and Wii fit Plus launch date

Posted in Nintendo by Shane McGlaun on September 1st, 2009

wiiblackThat black Nintendo Wii console that popped up not so long ago looked pretty cool, the problem was the console never made it to America for those tired of the white version we can get. Nintendo President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime announced at a conference that we will at least be getting some new color accessories for the Wii and new DSi colors.

A black Wii Remote, Wii Motion Plus, and Nunchuck will be coming, alas the black Wii itself will not be offered it seems. Wii Fit Plus has a new launch date and it will be coming on October 4 at $99 with the balance board or $19.99 of the software only.

Four-legged spider bot controlled using Wii Nunchucks

Posted in Robots by Conner Flynn on August 30th, 2009

Four-legged spider bot controlled using Wii NunchucksYou know what we need more of? Spider bots. Even if they are four legs short of a full spider. What you see here is a walking machine using only four legs. And we have to say it’s walking is impressive. Should you flip it over, it’s no problem. The legs simply reverse and it walks upside down.

It’s an entertaining little bot to watch. Just beware, if you want to build one, it’s expensive, costing around $1000. The coolest feature though, is that it’s controlled with two sets of modified Wii Nunchucks.

Nintendo’s Wii football accessory patent

Posted in Wii, patents by Conner Flynn on August 25th, 2009

Nintendo's Wii football accessory patentGame console makers apparently entertain every single idea, no matter how silly. The latest patent dreamed up by the big N is a football accessory that holds a Wiimote and nunchuk. The idea is that it could determine throwing angle, power and direction as well as body movements, which are then translated to the game.

It beats an inflatable horse, but do we really need to be breaking more TVs, with fake footballs? It’s just a patent, but you never know. We may see this one down the road. Good idea or not.
