This watch does E-Ink for a nice display

eink-watch.jpgE Ink technology is slowly finding its way into many devices you use in your daily personal electronics interaction. One of the newest is a wristwatch which tells you the time digitally. It is on sale for around $250.

The E-Ink Display Watch use the E Ink technology to provide a crisp digital display which Think Geek says can be read “accurately and instantly from any angle.” There are 16 different display options, when you consider you can choose from four different dial looks, two different color options and digital time to date display.

Casio G-Shock G5500CCasio G-Shock watches have now apparently been around for some 25 years. The company has just rolled out another model – the Casio G-Shock G5500C – to join the product line and it prices at around $120.

The Casio G-Shock G5500C is available in three colors – red, green, white – and, like its predecessors, is shock resistant and also water resistant up to 200 meters. This particular G-Shock also draws its power from the sun via a built-in solar panel and rechargeable battery.

Turntable watch: vinyl on your wrist

vinyl on your wrist
Here’s a great watch for DJ’s or record enthusiasts that want to proclaim their undying love for vinyl. Designed by FludWatches, the TableTurns watch sports a face that looks like a miniature Technics 1200 turntable. The visual details are all there in retro glory, but it won’t play tiny records, much to my sadness.

The clock hands rotate, so in a way it may look as if the record is spinning…very slowly. Each watch ships in it’s own miniature flight case for added coolness. The watch comes with either a black leather or stainless steel band, and is available from TurntableLab for only $59.This is definitely one of the cooler watches out there right now. If it actually played tiny records, I’d be sold, but for now I’ll stick with hoping someone comes out with an actual mini iPod watch.

Phosphor watches with E Ink display

PHOSPHOR watches with E Ink display

We may have to wait quite awhile for color e-ink displays, but in the meantime, B&W e-ink displays are hitting every product you can think of, including watches. The PHOSPHOR Ana-Digi Watch sports a traditional analog clock face with your typical hour, minute and second hands, with a digital e-ink display.

With the e-ink display, you can have a standard analog clock face, a digital face, or your choice of several other faces at the push of a button. It’s available for a hefty $250, but at least for that price you have a choice of leather or polyurethane band. It’s not a bad looking watch. I like it, but it seems like they could have done something a bit cooler, instead of simply slapping “E-Ink” on the face. After all, with E-Ink technology you can finally make branding a product a little cooler.

Potty Time watch lets kids know when to go

Potty Time watch

The Potty Watch from Potty Time is designed to help young parents potty train their kids without having to go potty themselves. The watch is worn by the toddler, and plays music and flashes lights in 30, 60 or 90 minute intervals and then resets itself automatically.

When the lights flash, that’s the signal to drop what they’re doing and head towards the potty. What an amazing concept, you not only teach the little rug-rat to go potty, but you teach him that gadgets are fun. Next thing you know, you have bred a good little consumer.(Who can relieve themselves no less) The only downside that I see is if they become too dependant on the watch as they grow. Just imagine in 20-30 years, as businessmen and women everywhere rush to the bathroom the minute their watch beeps.

The Tetris & Pong watch keeps you addicted

The Tetris & Pong watch

Anyone who has ever played Tetris and become totally absorbed in the experience knows that when you stop playing, those shapes can be seen in your mind’s eye for some time afterward. You can either quit cold turkey, or you can find a convenient way to play even more when there is no game console in front of you.

That’s where the Tetris watch comes in. It is Tetris in watch form and will keep any Tetris fanatic happily addicted when they should be getting work done. Why they even bother to put the time on, I have no idea. Time means nothing when you are in Tetris-land.

Robot watch transforms into a desk clock

Robot watch transforms into a desk clock

This great looking and versatile robot watch serves a double duty as both a watch and a desk clock. Just remove him from the wristband and stand him up. That’s not all he does. It can also be used as a keychain time piece and even a necklace pendant. That’s alot of uses for one little robot. The arms are fully posable as well as his headgear. I think the best part about him is that he looks cool with the clock on his chest.

How much would you pay for this much coolness in one robot? You can get it for a surprising $40. Comes in Silver and Gold tone as well as a pewter color. All look equally nice.

Tell time with the Stonehenge watch

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on October 26th, 2007

The Stonehenge watch actually tells timeJust when you think you’ve seen everything, some backwards thinker has put Stonehenge in a pocket watch casing along with a compass. It’s truly unique among watches, with the miniature rocks aligned up exactly as they are at the real Stonehenge.

The best part is that it actually tells time. You use the compass to find and face North. Then you insert the gnomon (The fancy stick in the middle. What do they teach you in school?) in front of the altar. Now, just look at the shadows that it creates and you will see the real time. Very cool. The kind of thing your friends will be impressed by. Obviously, with this watch you will be out of luck at night time or in the dark, but that’s the price you pay for nice things.

Wrist video and calling features

Hyundai GSM phone wristwatchThe day is rapidly approaching when the phone watch will be here. Well, it actually came a little while ago but we’re talking about the practical phone watch day that’s soon to come. Hyundai may be the leader of the pack with its W-100, a GSM phone that you wear on your wrist. The phone watch comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity, microSD card slot, plays MP3 and video files and has a touch screen interface. It supports both the English and Chinese language so there’s that going for it too. Most of all we dig the design which doesn’t look too clumsy nor too calculator watch-ish. Loads of more photos after the leap.
