Posted in twitter by Conner Flynn on October 27th, 2010

If you are interested in the patterns of social networking, then check this out. An entire wall devoted to tweeting. This Tweet-O-Meter Wall measures tweeting activity in nine major cities. It can be found at British Library’s Center for Advanced Spatial Analysis.

The purpose of the wall is to study the social dynamics among Twitter users around the world. Probably the only thing we get from this is a twitter timezone effect, where you can estimate the time of any given city just by monitoring the Twitter usage. Still, it’s pretty cool.

The Rambler Socket hides an extension cord in your wall

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 28th, 2009

Short cords on things like vacuum cleaners really stink. And if you use an extension cord, well, it just gets in the way. Let’s face it, cords are just plain messy no matter what you do. Well, the newly designed Rambler Socket is here to help.

It’s basically a 1.5 meter cord rolled up and hidden behind a socket. When needed, all you need to do is pull the cord out and connect your appliance instead of using an extension. When you’re done, just give the cord a slight tug and it winds the cord back into the wall.

Picture table: Hide your kitchen table on the wall

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on December 20th, 2009

Kitchen tables take up so much room in our homes. And we only use them for eating, so they don’t get used nearly often enough to justify the space they consume. The Picture Table aims to cure that, letting you use the table and then get it out of the way.

The Picture Table is like any normal table, but when you are done using it and want some space back, just flip it up onto the wall and it becomes a large frame. Great idea, especially if you live in an apartment.

Man climbs wall like Spiderman, using vacuum gloves

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on July 26th, 2009

Jem Stansfield climbed to the top of the BBC White City building in west London. But here’s the thing: He wasn’t bit by a radioactive spider and his girlfriend isn’t named MJ. No, he managed the climb using some DIY vacuum gloves that were made out of a regular household vacuum cleaner.

Unlike Spidey, he was secured with a safety harness tied to his back, just in case. He built the gloves himself, in a stunt for a new BBC One science show called Bang Goes The Theory.

Alien Wall Plaque is scary decor

Alien Wall Plaque is scary decorThe Roswell the Alien Wall Plaque has a few different uses. For one, it makes it look like you caught one and imprisoned it in your wall. Which is good because if a real alien shows up one night to abduct you for study, he’ll see this on your wall and hightail it out of there. Plus, he’ll tell his friends and thus you will be safe.

It’s also the sort of thing that comes in handy for scaring away unwanted house guests who like to spend the night. Just put this up in your guest room and no one will want to sleep over. It comes in three pieces: a head and two hands, so you can move them about to create the look that you want.

Vertical Chess Board puts your game on the wallStraight Up Chess is an interesting new version of the standard chess board. The chess set comes framed in your choice of several different wood options and you hang it on your wall. The pieces are supported by shelves that move with the pieces. So, instead of sitting across from each other for hours on end, you can just “move a piece whenever you walk by”. It even includes a marker to remind you who made the last move. Pretty cool idea.

Darth Vader wall clock with sound effectsGeeks with no Dark lord to bow down to will want to hang this Darth Vader clock on their wall. Then once a day bow down on one knee and ask “What is thy bidding master?”. That’s probably when your mom will sound off from the other side of your door and tell you to do some laundry. That is thy bidding.

This clock is actually kind of sad. Vader just looks silly impaled with clock hands on his forehead. It’s from England’s Wesco Limited and measures over 6 inches tall, features glowing red eyes, and includes a Vader sound effect. It also requires 3 x AAA batteries. It will cost you $34.99 in disposable geek income.
