Microsoft and Verizon reportedly working on an iPhone competitor |
Here we go. Yet another iPhone killer. How many does that make? If the Wall Street Journal’s report is to be believed, Verizon is currently in talks with Microsoft regarding a project with the codename “Pink”. Pink will be a Microsoft-designed iPhone rival with a multimedia focus and, very likely a big touchscreen.
According to the report, Microsoft’s version of the iPhone will also feature a tweaked version of Windows Mobile OS with “new software capabilities.” Microsoft is apparently involved with the design of the phone, while a third party will build it.

I love my iPhone, but I don’t feel the same way about the AT&T network the device is tied to. The biggest issue as a user of AT&T’s rural networks is that 3G coverage is very lacking and plain EDGE service can be hard to get in many locations while Verizon and Alltel offer seamless coverage in the same areas.

This thing looks absolutely bonkers, but a tipster to Boy Genius Report claims that Nokia is working on a “swiveling E71-type handset” for Verizon. It features a full QWERTY keyboard and runs Series 40. It’s very much like the Sidekick.

Looks like your Storm 2 wishlist just got an item slashed off. SlashGear has a source that they are pretty confident in, who says that the successor to BlackBerry’s touchscreen smartphone will add WiFi support for faster web browsing. It’s one of the smartphone’s biggest criticisms.
Verizon is replacing its low-end Samsung U340 with another handset from the company: the Smooth U350. The new clamshell doesn’t bring anything new to the table though, except for a change in style.

The LG Versa may be one to look out for. It will feature a bunch of accessories aimed at fashionistas, with fashionable items from the likes of Liz Claiborne and Dooney & Burke, plus several water resistant, sport, and plain leather cases that will keep the Versa safe.
If you’re a fan of Verizon you’ll be happy to know that the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 will be with the carrier soon. It’s the first clamshell BlackBerry, so it looks a little strange, but it’s a good solid phone that’s been available for a few months from other carriers.
The geeky world of smartphone fans was giddy with anticipation when BlackBerry announced its first touchscreen device called the
Smartphones are the top growing mobile phone category. The Apple iPhone may be at the top of the sales charts, but it has many competitors looking to take that top spot away. One of the smartphones that hoped to steal some of the iPhone thunder was the HTC Touch Pro.
It wasn’t so long ago that a wireless broadband modem was a large and clunky device that often needed two of your available USB ports to operate. The things drew lots of power and were just plain big. Modems today have shrunk in size and need less power from your notebook. Verizon has announced a new and small wireless broadband modem that will be available soon.
Verizon has now officially announced that RIM’s BlackBerry Storm 9530 will be available from Verizon wireless starting November 21. This smartphone is sure to be a hit as it’s BlackBerry’s first touchscreen (SurePress), and iPhone-competing device. It’s also the first device from Verizon set for Global 3G use.
