Verizon getting the Palm Pre in 6 monthsThe CEO of Verizon, Lowell McAdam, said that his company would get the Palm Pre as well as the Blackberry Storm 2 in about six Months. Around Christmas time or earlier. As you might expect, the news helped push Palm’s stock up. It’s good news for Palm sure, but even better for Verizon customers who are just itching to get some Pre action.

As it stands, Palm has the #2 and #3 US carriers and AT&T has more or less said that it will join in when the Sprint exclusive deal expires. Is the Pre really going to give the iPhone the whatfor?

Microsoft and Verizon reportedly working on an iPhone competitorHere we go. Yet another iPhone killer. How many does that make? If the Wall Street Journal’s report is to be believed, Verizon is currently in talks with Microsoft regarding a project with the codename “Pink”. Pink will be a Microsoft-designed iPhone rival with a multimedia focus and, very likely a big touchscreen.

According to the report, Microsoft’s version of the iPhone will also feature a tweaked version of Windows Mobile OS with “new software capabilities.” Microsoft is apparently involved with the design of the phone, while a third party will build it.

Verizon and Apple working on possible iPhone deal

Posted in Verizon by Shane McGlaun on April 27th, 2009

iphone3g-sbI love my iPhone, but I don’t feel the same way about the AT&T network the device is tied to. The biggest issue as a user of AT&T’s rural networks is that 3G coverage is very lacking and plain EDGE service can be hard to get in many locations while Verizon and Alltel offer seamless coverage in the same areas.

Back in 2007 when the iPhone first launched we mentioned that Verizon had passed on the iPhone when Apple asked them about working together on the device. According to USA Today Apple and Verizon are in talks again about bringing the iPhone to the Verizon network. The newspaper cites high-level sources that say the two companies are in discussions to bring a LTE version of the iPhone to the Verizon network.

New Swiveling Nokia hitting Verizon Wireless? This thing looks absolutely bonkers, but a tipster to Boy Genius Report claims that Nokia is working on a “swiveling E71-type handset” for Verizon. It features a full QWERTY keyboard and runs Series 40. It’s very much like the Sidekick.

It would be launched around the July/August time-frame. A swiveling QWERTY Nokia phone sounds crazy, but the folks ovet at Engadget have been contacted by a bunch of individuals who claim to have seen the phone in person.

It’s one of the smartphone’s biggest criticisms.

The source also dropped some hints that there are other surprises on the horizon but there are no specifics. Look for a release sometime in September on Verizon.

Some features you may already be familiar with include a VGA camera, 128 x 160 resolution display and a lack of microSD memory card slot. I don’t know about you, but I think it’s time that Samsung serious upgrades their entry-level phones.

It’s the first clamshell BlackBerry, so it looks a little strange, but it’s a good solid phone that’s been available for a few months from other carriers.

We don’t have any word on pricing and availability. We do know that silver will be among the color choices. The release date should be very soon since test units have gone out.
