Sony Ericsson Xperia Play to launch on Verizon?

Posted in Sony Ericsson by Conner Flynn on February 9th, 2011

According to Wirefly, the upcoming “PlayStation Phone” aka the Xperia Play from Sony Ericsson will be sold by Verizon when it arrives in the US. If that is accurate, Verizon customers have some tough choices to make. There’s the iPhone 4, Thunderbolt and now the Xperia Play all arriving on their network.

Decisions, decisions. This one does have a slide out gamepad, Android 2.3 and the PlayStation Suite. Which one do you get?

iFrogz announces that some cases are compatible with Verizon iPhone

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 8th, 2011

If you have been using the iPhone 4 on AT&T and are ready to move to Verizon, you have to be aware that your case may not fit the Verizon iPhone. That’s because the iPhone 4 for Verizon has the buttons on the side lowered a bit, which makes some cases not work.

The good news is that iFrogz has announced that several of its cases will work fine for both the Verizon and AT&T iPhone 4 phones, which saves you some hassle. Some of the cases that will fit the Verizon version are the Luxe original, Luxe Lean, Treadz, Wrapz, and the Soft Gloss.

Verizon sold more than 500,000 iPhones in first pre-order day

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on February 8th, 2011

We recently heard through an official statement from Verizon that the launch of the iPhone 4 broke all of the companies previous first day sales records, although we don’t have any specific numbers. Now according to analyst Phil Cusick from JPMorgan, it looks like Verizon may have sold as many as 500,000 iPhone 4′s on the first day when it was made available to pre-order to existing customers.

The previous record holder for first day sales at Verizon was the Motorola Droid, which sold 100,000 units on the first day. For now we should take this with a grain of salt since these 500,000 iPhone 4 sales are based on analysis rather than facts from Verizon, but it sounds reasonable to us.

Verizon iPhone 4 gets a teardown

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

As usual, the folks at iFixit have torn apart a new gadget. This time it is the Verizon iPhone 4. Of course they found the expected differences, but they also found that the phone has a slightly lighter battery than its counterpart, that the mechanical vibrator has been redesigned and moved from the top right corner to the bottom right of the phone and that the phone has a Qualcomm baseband chip.

The chip is a Qualcomm MDM660 chip that supports HSPA+ data rates up to 14.4 Mbps, and is the same chip used in the Droid Pro. So the chip technically supports both GSM and CDMA, although Apple has decided not to take advantage of that capability for whatever their reasons are.

Ballistic Verizon iPhone 4 compatible rugged case

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

Ballistic has launched a new version of their Ballistic HC rugged case for the Verizon iPhone 4. The case shares many of the same features as the previous version for the iPhone 4. The Ballistic HC iPhone 4 case comes with five layers: a runner layer, a rigid frame, an outer rubber layer for shock absorption, a removable outer silicone layer and a screen protector.

Yep, they really went ballistic designing this one. It should be rugged enough for anything you will throw at it in your daily life. It even makes your phone look tough.

Verizon Palm Pre 2 gets a release date

Posted in Palm by Conner Flynn on February 6th, 2011

It actually hit Europe a few months back, but now it looks like we’ll finally see this webOS 2.0 phone in our neck of the woods. At least, according to a screenshot posted on precentral.net. The Verizon Palm Pre 2 product page was spotted by someone and it lists the Palm Pre 2 as having a February 17 launch date.

The phone will cost $100 with a 2-year contract. What with a launch date so close to the iPhone, and a rumored Bionic and XOOM release date, the Palm Pre may get lost entirely. Have you been waiting for this one?

Verizon breaks first day sales record with iPhone 4 pre-orders in just two hours

Posted in Verizon by Conner Flynn on February 4th, 2011

Well, that was quick. It took Verizon just two hours of having the iPhone 4 available for pre-order to break its all-time record for first day sales of a single device. That’s even more impressive when you consider the fact that it only opened up pre-orders to its own subscribers, and it started at the dead of night.

This means that between 3AM and 5AM yesterday morning, more people ordered the iPhone 4 than Verizon has been able to sell on any full product launch day. We don’t have actual numbers, but it is obviously a lot.

HTC Thunderbolt may hit Verizon early

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on February 2nd, 2011

Verizon has hinted that the HTC Thunderbolt might arrive early. It reminded users that the iPhone is coming soon and also said that the Android-based 4G phone might come “sooner than expected.” No exact date was given.

Previous leaks from Verizon’s retail system have the Android flagship’s launch on February 14 and that could be the date Verizon is teasing, but it also might be moved up.

Verizon has an Android sale

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on January 31st, 2011

This is what we call a pre-iPhone 4 blow out bonanza friends. Come one, come all and get some awesome deals on Android phones from Verizon right now. Everything must go as we prepare for the almighty Jesus of phones, the iPhone 4. We got your Samsung Fascinate and Continuum, the HTC Droid Incredible and yes, even the Motorola Droid R2-D2.

All available now for just $100 on the usual two-year contract. The sale doesn’t include the Droid X, Droid Pro or Droid 2 Global, but Verizon says they will have some additional one-day only sales during its “ten days of sweet deals” from now until February 10th.

Verizon iPhone 4 orders begin February 3rd

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 27th, 2011

If you have been drooling over the new Verizon iPhone 4, Verizon will start taking orders on the 3rd of February, according to an email that was sent to the folks over at Mac Rumors. Apparently existing Verizon customers will be able to order the iPhone 4 from the 3rd of February, while new customers will have to wait another week.

Looks like Verizon will also be offering existing iPhone owners a deal to trade in their iPhone with the purchase a Verizon iPhone, offering from $60 for an iPhone 2G up to $360 for an 32GB iPhone 4.

Apple releases Universal Bumper Case for Verizon and AT&T iPhone

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 21st, 2011

The new verizon iPhone 4 has a slightly different design than the original iPhone 4, which seems to have fixed the iPhone death grip issue, but now the original iPhone 4 bumper case will not fit the Verizon iPhone. And so Apple has released a new universal bumper case to fit both phones.

The main difference on the Verizon iPhone 4 is that the mute switch sits slightly lower than on the original iPhone 4, so the new bumper design makes sure that it will work with both versions of the iPhone 4.

Verizon iPhone announced

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 11th, 2011

As expected, the Verizon iPhone has arrived. Now millions of people can head over to Verizon from AT&T, for the CDMA (non-LTE) version of the iPhone 4 starting next month. The phone is said to have been in testing for over a year, and it will be available on February 10th for $200 (16GB).

Qualified Verizon Wireless customers will be given the opportunity to pre-order the iPhone 4 online on February 3rd. If you want a 32GB model, the price is $300. Verizon iPhone owners will also enjoy personal hotspot capability (up to 5 users connected simultaneously).

Apple may drop restocking fees on Verizon iPhone day

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 9th, 2011

Apple may be planning an end to its restocking fees at retail which would help fuel the Verizon iPhone launch. The company would permanently waive the 10 percent penalty for anyone returning a device in the usual two-week grace period, starting January 11. That’s the same day as the special event.

However, 9 to 5 Mac didn’t say if it was a permanent policy or just a one time promo with the Verizon deal, but it wouldn’t be exclusive to the one device. Of course the company has not commented on this as yet. This might help get customers to try an apple product, if they were hesitant before.

Verizon cuts Galaxy Tab to $500

Posted in Verizon by Conner Flynn on January 2nd, 2011

Verizon has cut the price of the Galaxy Tab to $500 contract-free. The $100 price drop should take effect soon and will also include $60 of movie rentals from Blockbuster’s app or Samsung’s Media Hub. As a bonus, anyone who bought the Android tablet within the past two weeks can get a refund for the price difference. Can’t complain about that.

The price drop comes just two months after release and since we don’t have any information on how well the seven-inch slate has been selling, we have to assume that things are not good. Then again, maybe they are just trying harder to compete. Motorola’s Droid Xoom will be launched at CES next week after all.

HTC Thunderbolt to be Verizon’s first 4G LTE handset

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on December 29th, 2010

Are you eagerly waiting for the first 4G LTE phone from Verizon? We have some news. Verizon Wireless is set to unveil about a half-dozen 4G LTE smartphones at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show. This may be the first in line. The HTC Thunderbolt resembles the Desire HD, it’s just much more capable.

The device features a kickstand and Google branding. Verizon has refused to comment on the phone so far. It looks ultra sexy though, don’t you think?
