Give a geek some hardware, a bit of extra time, and a need for speed and they can come up with anything. A dude named Barry Lee has constructed his own mini dragster using six circular saws for power. The saws are 16-inch Makita units.

The dragster was created for a cool competition in the UK called the Power Tool Drag Racing Championships held in conjunction with the Royal Navy and Five’s Gadget Show. The dragsters will compete against other DIY types and power tool companies for the win.

Sometime I run across stuff that is so great it’s just amazing. Today is such a day. A guy named Dave has created the coolest go-cart ever. It’s perfect for cruising at the racetrack and would make the perfect golf cart for drunkards.

The cart is made out of what appears to be a normal enough go cart frame and motor. Rather than seats, the thing has a pair of toilets on it. The tanks for the toilets are replaced with red coolers.

Before you start reading this, be sure there is no one around that might hear you have the massive nerdgasm that is about to hit. Five street legal and working Tron Lightcycles designed after the ones in the new flick are going to land on eBay for sale.

Yeah, you read that right, these things look just like the lightcycles from the new flick and you can actually ride them on the road. Green geeks can get the bike with an electric motor, those not worried about pollution can opt for a gas motor, and transmission. The bikes are being built by a team from Parker Brothers.

How long have Halo fans waited for these toys? You can now own your very own remote controlled Halo toys. That way, when you aren’t playing the game, it’s like you are playing a new one. There are 3 different toys available at the moment.

You can get the RC Mongoose with Master Chief, the Warthog with 2 figures and the IR Control Flying Hornet. The last one really flies and sadly the preorders are already sold out. The Hornet will cost you $38.99, the Warthog $ 23.99 and the Mongoose $ 23.99. They will all be officially available in August of this year.

Chargers for plug-in electric vehicles are nothing new, but the folks at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have some smart plans for their new Smart Charger Controller. They hope that it might one day serve as a standard charger for all manner of electric vehicles.

Apparently each controller would be wirelessly linked to the local electric company, which would feed the controller power prices and other pertinent information so that it can charge during non-peak hours. That right there will save owners roughly $150 a year. It might even be able to sense “stress conditions” and shut down before the grid overloads.

Flying in a plane made of paper of any kind sounds dangerous, but ‘buckypaper’ isn’t paper at all, at least not what we’re used to. It’s a new type of carbon nanotube that may usher in a new lightweight, high strength composite. It was discovered accidentally while trying to create the same conditions that exist in a star. Buckypaper isn’t ready for prime-time just yet, but the potential is amazing.

The tube-shaped molecule is dispersed in liquid and then filtered through a fine mesh, creating a very thin yet powerful film, called buckypaper. The molecule has a large surface area, and that’s what gives it the incredible strength: when stacked to become a composite, you have something 10 times lighter, but maybe 500 times stronger than steel, while conducting and dispersing heat like copper. It could find a wide range of uses in areas like aviation, computers, batteries, armor, even fuel cells.

Moov is one of the coolest kids I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a DIY 4-in-1 vehicle kit for kids between 5 and 12 from Dutch company Berg. You can build a racer, a carver, a tricycle, and a scooter. It’s like combining LEGO and Erector with the big wheel.

With the large wood and plastic pieces, it’s easy enough for a kid to build and big enough to ride it down the street. Plus, they are actually learning while they play. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see add-ons for these very soon, that would pimp up the kid creations.
