Samsung 12.2MP PL90 point and shoot with built-in USB plug

We like convergence. And Samsung’s latest point and shoot doesn’t disappoint. The PL90 features a 12.2 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD in back and a 640 x 480 movie mode with 30fps and 15fps options.

The most interesting thing however is the integrated USB plug, which eliminates the need for a USB cable. This model is heavy in automated features, which newcomers will love. It’s available next month for $149.99 if you are interested.

SanDisk claims that its Cruzer Blade is the world’s smallest USB flash drive. We believe it. The drive is “about the size of a standard size paper clip and weighing approximately the same as a penny.”

It’s perfect for hanging from your keyring, when not getting lost in the folds of your couch and such. It’s available in capacities from 2GB to 16GB, with prices from $14.99 to $77.99. When they say small they mean small, just not in price.

UVmini kills germs on your toothbrush

I spent the first decade after I left college working in the hospital. The thing you always have to worry about there are germs making you sick and spreading them to other people that you see.

Every hospital I have ever seen used UV light to kill airborne germs, the tech is known to work well. A new gadget has turned up called the UVmini that uses this tech to kill germs on your toothbrush.

If your laptop has both the USB port and the power, Plextor has a new device to bring Blu-Ray to your machine. The new PX-B120U is a USB-powered BD-ROM drive, which plays Blu-ray movies and even goes a step further with the ability to burn DVDs and CDs.

Those features are nothing special. It’s the ability to function entirely from USB power that we like. The device can also be converted into a living room player when connected to the forthcoming PlexMedia. At just $99.99 it is very tempting.

Reversible USB connector fits ports either way

Plugging in USB devices can be tricky if you aren’t paying attention or are in low light. The Flipper USB connector however allows you to plug in your device in either orientation, up or down. The design has some advantages over traditional USB devices, since you can plug in your USB device without even thinking about it.

The Flipper USB connector also comes with spare connections in case you have damage on one side of the connector, you can just flip the connector over and use the other side. Pretty clever solution.

We’ve seen these mailbox type email alert gadgets before, but this one is tiny enough to be cute and useful. The USB Mail Box Friends Alert is an $18 device that plugs into your USB port, where it will monitor your email, Twitter, and Facebook accounts using its companion software.

The mailbox lights up red or green to notify you of an update. Also, upping the cute factor, the little plastic flag will actually raise. It supports Windows 7, Vista, and XP.

A cigarette lighter is a handy thing to carry around with you, even if you are not a smoker. This cigarette lighter is powered by USB, so it doesn’t even require any flammable lighter fluid. It works by using a pair of nichrome style red hot wires that will light your smoke just like that.

Active Media Products offers Key Drive USB drive

There are lots of people out there who like to keep a flash drive on them at all times. The problem is that many folks forget to take one with them that isn’t small enough to fit in a purse, wallet, or on a keychain.

Active Media Products has announced a new USB flash drive called the Key Drive that is made from metal and shaped like a house key. The Key Drive has exposed USB contacts and is only 3mm thick.

Retro typewriters turned into USB keyboards

If you miss the days of typing away at a slow speed on old typewriters, you can now relive those days on your computer. These retro typewriters have been converted into USB keyboards. They come from Jack Zylkin of usbtypewriters.

He takes old typewriters and converts them into keyboards you can use with modern computers. Pretty damn cool right? A fully-modded USB typewriter will cost you about $400 to $500, or Jack can take your old typewriter and convert it for you for $200.
