Ever heard of ruthenium? Me either. Turns out it’s used as an external plating on these luxurious open-back headphones. There are other expensive materials inside, with titanium-plated 40mm drivers, silver-plated copper wires with 99.99 percent purity and kevlar-coated cables.

There is also Ethiopian sheepskin earcup pads. The Ultrasone Edition 10s will cost you $2,745. Crazy, I know. So if you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, why not give them a try.

Ultrasone debuts Pro 2900 headphones in two versions

Ultrasone has been making high-end headphones for a long time. The company has unveiled its latest new headphones called the Pro 2900. For the first time the headphones are being offered in two versions. One of the versions is your common single cable set of headphones.

The other version is a balanced version with two cables made specifically for balanced amplifiers that audiophiles might use for better sound. The Pro 2900 headphones have the same design no matter the version with velvet covered ear pads and 40mm drivers coated in titanium.

I am a fan of headphones that sound good for watching movies and playing games on my PC. Good sound is also nice for the few occasions when I want to listen to some music. I am far from an audiophile though and stick to reasonably priced headphones.

If you are an audiophile of the type that will pay big money for a great set of headphones Ultrasone has unveiled its new Edition 8 Palladium Edition headphones. The things feature natural S-Logic surround sound and have 30-ohm impedance.

This special edition headphones uses the company’s S-Logic Plus technology for an “impartial acoustic feeling that allows the listener even more of a spacious tonal perception.”

These headphones are all about luxury. It comes in elegant black and silver colors with each ear cup covered in soft Ethiopian sheepskin. Because sheepskin from anywhere else just won’t cut it apparently. The headphones will set you back $1,499, but if it’s any consolation they come with a leather bag.
