VUDU does Facebook and Twitter integration

Posted in VUDU by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2010

The VUDU update this week will be of interest to those of you who like social networking sites. VUDU will now update your Facebook or Twitter status with your impressions of the movie you’re watching. Your friends with VUDU will also be able to see those updates and join in on the fun by watching the same movie.

It’s a cool way to promote and discover content, but we aren’t sure if it will catch on. The way Boxee does it might make more sense.

Twitter-enabled LED table

Posted in twitter by Conner Flynn on February 27th, 2010

Looks like a Lite-Brite table, but it is so much more. Instead of the usual, controlling a device via Twitter, or just displaying and reading tweets out loud, this LED does something different. It uses the tweeting masses to generate patterns of light on the table in an artistic way.

This is accomplished by using a hashtag and a specific format for entering colors and coordinates, which first are sent to a MacBook Pro and then transmitted to the table over Bluetooth. There’s even a live USTREAM feed that lets you see the results of your tweet.

Puppy Tweets turns your dog into a Twitter hound

Posted in twitter by Conner Flynn on February 14th, 2010

Puppy Tweets is a new “toy” from Mattel. Don’t worry, it’s not the dog above whose lack of face is disturbing. It’s a device that attaches to your dog’s collar and monitor’s his or her physical activity all day long. When it detects new activity, or no activity at all, it will send out a tweet from your dog’s Twitter account about what the he/she is up.

This way you will know what your pooch is up to all day long. It’s available in pink or blue. The collar device runs on a wi-fi connection, and a USB receiver needs to be plugged in, and your computer turned on for the device to send out tweets.

BowLingual for iPhone translates dog-speak, lets him tweet

Posted in Pets by Conner Flynn on February 10th, 2010

Forget real-time translation of speech from one human to another. What we really need is to understand what our dogs are saying. TheRe’s an app for that. One that will translate what your dog is saying. The technology actually won the 2002 Ig Nobel Peace Prize.

It’s called BowLingual and it’s about to be ported to the iPhone as an app from the App Store. So just what is the ‘Ig Nobel Prize’? Wikipedia says that “It’s an American parody of the Nobel Prizes and are given each year in early October for ten achievements that “first make people laugh, and then make them think”.

Twitter has taken over the world. There’s no denying it. It’s everywhere. Built into everything. Your mother does it. Your grandmother just learned how to do it. And now, its in shoes, as long as your shoes are these Ramblers. These custom shoes tweet with every step you take.

Yes, it’s useless but that’s the whole idea. I guess it’s a commentary on Twitter, or how you should get out more or something. Whatever. Shoes that tweet are okay with us as long as people don’t go retweeting every step.

Twoddler lets your toddler twitter

Posted in twitter by Conner Flynn on December 6th, 2009

Twoddler lets your toddler twitterYou might recognize this Fisher-Price toy from your own childhood. This one has been hacked by some eggheads at Belgium’s Hasselt University and dubbed the Twoddler. The hacked Fisher-Price activity board has buttons linked to predefined Twitter messages.

The idea is that parents who used the Kickbee can continue their obsession and do stuff like put photos of themselves on the buttons, so that the kid can hit the Twoddler and tweet stuff like “@mommy I miss you.”
