Tron lightcycle case mod is awesome

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on May 19th, 2011

Feast your eyes on this Tron case mod. It looks like it could just zip away from your desktop, leaving only a trail of light behind it. Bods Mods has just completed this 40-inch long lightcycle PC and unleashed it on the world. Or the grid. Whatever.

It features an ATX motherboard, liquid cooling, and blue light aplenty. It was created using SketchUp, Google’s 3D modeling app. After that it was a lot of foam shaping and Dremel work. The detail is simply stunning. Bods Mods has entered this case in Cooler Master’s 2011 Case Mod Competition.

The TRON movie hype may be over, but the products keep showing up. Monster has introduced this new powerful five-speaker 2.1 system inspired by the disc featured in the film. It’s called the Monster TRON Light Disc Sound Dock and it uses sophisticated microprocessors to individually control the Light Ring’s LEDs. And who doesn’t want shiny lights on their sound dock?

This device also features four high-performance drivers for ultra-crisp highs, a clear mid-range and extended low-end effects, while the down-firing subwoofer delivers room-filling bass. The Monster TRON Light Disc Sound Dock is compatible with iPods and includes a 3.5mm auxiliary audio input for additional MP3 players, laptops, desktops and other devices. The Monster TRON Light Disc Sound Dock will cost you $299.95.

TRON Segway mod

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on January 11th, 2011

If you’re a Tron fan, let’s face it, you are looking to put cool lights on all kinds of stuff so you can pretend you are in the grid. A TRON-themed Segway was just a matter of time. It looks pretty good.

This one was a pretty simple mod, since it just took some 3M reflective safety tape, a strand of blue LED Christmas lights, a pair of scissors and some electrical tape. I can’t imagine anyone from the movie riding it, but hey, whatever.

TRON Cat costume

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on December 30th, 2010

It may not be Halloween, but why should that stop you from dressing up your cat in a TRON costume? It shouldn’t. If you have a dream, live it. Who cares if your cat never talks to you again. Some huge TRON fan is living the dream and has dressed their cat up in a light-up costume and posted a picture of it online.

The cat seems to like it since it can’t stop checking itself out in the mirror. Maybe the mirror is a gateway into the grid.

DIY Tron messenger bag

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on December 20th, 2010

This Tron-inspired messenger bag will make you feel like you are in the film, minus the bad reviews. All it takes is a bit of EL-wire and a little soldering, you can make one just like this. A small battery pack that sends a low current through the EL-wire gives it a nice blue glow.

You will be the envy of every Tron nerd you know and you will stand out from the crowd. It might even make you safer since folks in cars will see you at night.

Xbox 360 limited edition orange Tron controller

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on December 17th, 2010

When it comes to Tron merchandise it has to light up and be over the top, otherwise why bother? And this latest peripheral for the 360 is just that. It’s up for pre-order now at $39.99 and is a very limited 250-unit production run.

It’s officially licensed by Microsoft and arriving later this month. A not so limited blue version should be joining it soon. Looks pretty sexy in orange though and the price isn’t bad.

TRON Light Cycle Launcher Baton

Posted in Toys by Conner Flynn on December 16th, 2010

The latest in TRON merchandise for the new movie is this baton, inspired by the film. It’s actually a launcher that will fire away a replica of the famous light cycle that appears in the film. It’s a pretty neat toy.

We aren’t sure how far it launches, but we can see a lot of broken TVs and windows in it’s future. The TRON Legacy: Baton Light Cycle Launcher is available now for $16.50.

TRON inspired Skatecycle

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on December 14th, 2010

The sequel to Disney’s 1982 film Tron is set to be released on December 17, and people everywhere are geeking out with merchandise and TRON inspired DIY stuff. This latest comes from Alon Karpman, the IDSA IDEA award winning creator of The Freerider skate cycle, which is a hub-less two wheeled self-propelling something-or-other currently in production.

Alon, a Brooklyn based design entrepreneur has created a one of a kind tribute to the new film out of his best-selling skatecycle, using colors and glow-in-the-dark elements. And it looks like it came straight out of the movie.

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on December 9th, 2010

The Tron Marketing madness continues and even the PS3 will not be spared. Monster has introduced the Monster TRON Legacy PS3 Slim Powerstation 400. It offers Monster’s Clean Power technology, a 4-port USB smart charger where the USB ports can be used for accessories like guitars, drum sets etc.

Sure it does all of that stuff, but the most important thing is that you’ll have a constant reminder of a movie that will likely suck. It’ll cost you $79.95 and is available now.

Tron Motorcycle Helmet

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on December 2nd, 2010

You may not find any light cycles on the open road, but you can at least look like you are from the Tron movie with this helmet. This Tron decal Motorcycle helmet mimics the design of the original Tron lightcycle suit.

It was designed by French firm Ruby who have tried to replicate the look and layout of the circuits on the original helmet from the film. Its a limited edition created to celebrate the release of the Tron film in France. It will be released and available to purchase in January when the Tron film hits France.

TRON: Legacy is coming out very soon so the TRON memorabilia is everywhere right now. These TRON Light Cycle USb drives are available in both 4GB and 8GB capacities and are available in both white and black. We love drives like this, because they display nicely and don’t just store data and look boring.

As a bonus, the wheel base flashes. It wouldn’t be TRON without the lights. The 4GB drive will cost you $25 and it’s $35 for the 8GB version.

Tron inspired LED Watch from Tokyoflash

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on October 20th, 2010

The guys over at Tokyoflash never stop designing cool new watches. The latest one is part of their concept series, and it was designed by Scott from the UK. And we hope they put this one into production very soon, since it looks awesome.

The two rings (based on a Tron Disc) represent the minutes and the hours. The break in the ring represents the time in a normal clock face layout. We hope that they make this tron inspired LED watch asap.

Yeah, you read that right, these things look just like the lightcycles from the new flick and you can actually ride them on the road. Green geeks can get the bike with an electric motor, those not worried about pollution can opt for a gas motor, and transmission. The bikes are being built by a team from Parker Brothers.

Razer gets into the Tron spirit with new keyboard and mouse

Posted in Keyboards by Shane McGlaun on June 24th, 2010

I know that many of the geeks out there who grew up in the 80′s are fans of Tron. It was hard not to be with all the arcade games that were around with mini games from the original movie. I always liked the Light Bike game. I vaguely recall there being Tron toys when I was a kid too.

With the new Tron movie hitting theaters soon, there is resurgence in Tron merchandise with toys and game controllers. Razer has announced that it has a couple of Tron peripherals coming to celebrate the movie and geek up your gaming rig.
