JVC’s 32-7mm thin LCD is the lightest in the world |
For a while there, manufacturers were concentrating on large sizes, now it’s depth that is all important. TVs are big and you can get one up to 150 inches if you’re rich and bored, but how thin are they? Chances are they are not thin enough to match your wall art. That’s all about to change as companies race to put out the first super-thin LCD TVs.
JVC is about to show off a new prototype of a 32-inch LCD HDTV at CES this week. It’s unique because it’s a mere 7mm thick and weighs in at just 11 pounds, which thinner and lighter than your TV. Most laptops no longer weigh that. Since it’s a prototype, it won’t be showing up on store shelves anytime soon, but with everyone racing to get them to consumers, it won’t be a long wait.

LG is the latest manufacturer to stretch the limits of LCD TVs. LG will unveil the “LH95,” the world’s slimmest LED LCD TV at CES in January in Las Vegas. The LG LH95 is expected to be only 24.8mm thick, which should be good enough to back the manufacturer’s claim. The LH95 will feature a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio screen and come with 240Hz TrueMotion Drive technology.
Lisbon based Portuguese designer Nuno Teixeira designed this ultra slim Digit MP3 Player concept. It’s user friendly and comes with a wireless stereo headset and 20GB of built-in memory. Design-wise it’s a thing of beauty. And it does away with wires completely.
