Thanko Microsports MP3 playerThanko is well known for it’s crap gadgets, but every now and then they surprise us with something a bit more original and different. Thanko has now shrunk the MP3 player into a form as small as 16mm x 25mm x 22mm, weighing just 8 grams.

And you wear it in your ear adding some extra douche to your personality. A very thin cable will allow you to enjoy your tunes. The 2GB and 4GB models will cost you about $55 and $76, respectively. It could sport better looks, but some users are bound to appreciate it’s tiny size.

Thanko’s USB Powered Peeing Man

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on September 2nd, 2009

Thanko's USB Powered Peeing ManAs far as USB gadgets go, nothing beats a little peeing man. I mean it’s a little man that pees. Your other gadgets don’t pee. It’s probably supposed to be used as a fountain or something, but really it’s completely useless. Thanko simply knows that if they build it, you will buy it…if it pees.

The joke is on you when this mini peeing dude gets water all over your computer and electrocutes you, making you pee your pants. You won’t know if its art imitating life or life imitating art and you won’t care. You’ll just be one shivering electrocuted mess curled up into a fetal position with the smell of burnt ozone around you as that little man continues to just pee away…

Thanko Silent Keyboard EX

Posted in Keyboards by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

Thanko Silent Keyboard EXThanko wants to help keep your environment silent with an update to their Silent Keyboard with an EX attached on the end instead of a shhhhh. They’ve cut 16.5 dB from the sound of the keyboard and to them that equals $52.79.

Seems a tad pricey for any keyboard, silent or not. But if quiet is your bag and all of that clickety-clack is getting on your nerves, why not give it a shot? It will take your money just as quietly as it operates.

Video Water: Thanko’s mini underwater camcorder

Video Water: Thanko's mini underwater camcorder Thanko has released a new super tiny camcorder named “video water”. It’s a finger sized water-tight video recorder that can be easily attached to anything. The camera will work under water up to a depth of 20 meters. That way, you record all the fish you want, or record your friend getting their pants pulled down in the pool. Whatever.

Resolution is equivalent to the camera in an ordinary cell phone. Record time is about 6 hours. The video is encoded in .3gp format and the 2GB of memory can hold over 6 hours of video. Charge time is how much use time you’ll get.

Thanko’s Lazy Mouse 2

Posted in Mouse by Conner Flynn on May 4th, 2009

Thanko's Lazy Mouse 2Thanko has a new and interesting gadget they’ve just introduced, in the Lazy Mouse 2, aka the GoroNeDeMouse2. It’s small enough to operate your computer like a wireless mouse. Is it lazy? For some people, this might be far easier. Especially if desk space is an issue.

The Lazy Mouse 2 is compatible with both Windows and Mac, but sadly the built-in rechargeable battery has just 4 hours of life. I’m curious. How many of you think this is an amazing idea? And how many think it’s a waste of $50?

Thanko pen reads 4 SD cards simultaneously

Thanko pen reads 4 SD cards simultaneouslyThanko has released a new four-slot USB SD card reader in the form of a pen. I’m not sure what situation would arise where you would need to read four different SD cards at the same time, but if it happens you are covered.

The SD4PEN can read four SD or SDHC cards (up to 16GB) as well as let you write all of the usual mundane things you write throughout the course of your day. Nothing on pricing yet or a release date, but we’re sure it will be soon. I mean you need another pen and you’ve got SD cards. You need this.

Thanko earrings/headphones

Thanko earrings/headphonesWith everyone wearing headphones these days it was only a matter of time before they also became earrings as well. Thanko is rolling out their new Sounds Live Magnetic headphones. They look like earrings, and can be clipped onto the earlobe whenever you want to listen to your favorite tunes.

Would that be comfortable? Each pair has a frequency response of 20Hz-25,000Hz, an impedance of 32Ω, and a sensitivity of 100dB/mW. Each pair will retail for about $19 in Japan.I think they are going to want to up the style on these next time around though, and make them look a bit more like jewelry. Not every one can rock a Panda and a soccer ball ya know.

Thanko puts a pad lock on USB drives

Thanko puts a pad lock on USB drives
There are lots of ways to protect your ultra secret “eyes only”, top level clearance only data. Here’s Thanko’s answer. A pad lock on a usb drive.

Hey why not? If you have nosy co-workers or are just paranoid someone will find out about you moonlighting as a secret agent, it might work. Maybe. Okay, probably not. But it’s a neat idea. Maybe good for protecting regular data. Go for something stronger when hiding Top Secret files. Even a monkey could disassemble this thing.

Thanko Cooler USB Keyboard

Thanko Cooler USB Keyboard
The way I see it, if sweaty palms are a problem for you, you can either keep a rosin bag next to your keyboard like Baseball pitchers use or you can get yourself a keyboard with air vents. Thanko has just such a keyboard, so stop being nervous and sweating through your hands already.

The Thanko Cooler USB keyboard works just like those bowling lane machines, with air vents to keep your hands dry. The built-in fan has a switch so you can turn it off whenever you don’t need it. Not sure how loud it is, but it will cost you $62.

Thanko’s solar-powered DAP

Thanko’s solar-powered DAP
As far as solar devices go, Thanko’s DAP actually looks pretty nice. I’ve seen much worse. In the front it looks like any other device with a 1.8-inch 220 x 176 resolution display, 4GB of internal storage space and a miniSD expansion slot.

But in the back is where you’ll find the solar panel that doubles as a stand for the unit. Just stand the whole thing up as shown and let it soak up the sun. It can also be charged via USB. No word on a price or release date, so who knows if we’ll ever see it in the U.S.

Cranking MP3 player from Thanko

Cranking MP3 player from Thanko
Here’s an MP3 player from Thanko that can be hand-cranked, so you can enjoy your music no matter where you are, and not have to worry about batteries or the sun for power. They say that a single minute of cranking will get you 10 minutes worth of music. The device is capable of storing up to 1GB worth of audio, and supports MP3 and WMA formats. It even has a built-in flash light for when you are rocking out in the dark. The player retails for about 40 Euros. It’s not heavy on style and it won’t win mp3 player of the year by a long shot, but it gets the job done.
