The TDK Life on Record Sound Cube packs in two 5 1/4-inch coaxial drivers that deliver space-filling sound in a unique, compact design. It also has an equalizer to visualize your music with and retro rotary dials to control everything. It’s a speaker system, it’s a cube.

Digital data streaming allows premium audio decoding and playback while it’s charging your Apple iPod and iPhone. Other features include a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB port and Apple’s 30-Pin dock connector. We love the look of this one.

TDK was a big name back in the days of cassettes, but they really haven’t done anything in the last many years, until recently with their retro boombox, and now this portable stereo. And judging by how awesome these devices look, we are glad to have them back.

The Sound Cube costs $300 and is part of TDK’s Life on Record audio series. The 17-pound portable enclosure measures 9.8″ x 9.8″ x 9.8″ and features a pair of 5-1/4″ full-range coax drivers, and the other two sides have passive reflectors that look like speakers. You place it in the center of your room and it pumps sound out.

Storage breakthroughs are exploding all over the place and TDK has now introduced the new 1TB or 1000GB optical disk at CEATEC. The new 1TB disc has the same diameter as a standard Blu-ray disc, but has 16 layers, storing 32GB per side of each layer (32 layers each storing 32GB = 1TB).

TDK had already created a 200GB disk in 2006, but sadly it never entered the mass market. One day soon maybe we will be able to store 5TB on these discs.
