Android Market gets ‘Related’ apps tab without Android 2.3

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on December 5th, 2010

Google has updated its Android Marketplace to deliver the highly requested ‘Related’ tab to help shoppers looking for similar apps. The feature which makes apps more easily discoverable, was at first thought to be unique to the forthcoming Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update. But users with a Droid 2 and Nexus One running Android 2.2 (Froyo) have discovered the tab appear on their devices overnight.

However, judging by the initial screenshots, the accuracy of the recommendations seems to need more tweaking. Users have reported finding related apps that are more relevant to their search up to a page down.

If you are one of the hoards of folks that have been waiting for more info on the Galaxy Tab some news has surfaced today. We already know that here in the US the thing will sell in the $200 to $400 range depending on subsidies from carriers.

That subsidized price will obviously mean there will be a contract for a couple years tying you to the carrier and its data plan. Over in Europe the subsidized price for the Tab via O2 is said to be 99 euro with a data plan contract for a bit less than 28 euro per month. If you want the thing sans contract in Europe, Amazon Germany has priced the thing.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Tablet

Looks like Samsung is getting into the tablet action as well. The company’s official South African Twitter account has revealed a picture of a Samsung tablet, called the Samsung Galaxy Tab, sitting next to the Samsung Galaxy S. We don’t have any details to go with the pic, but it’s running Android 2.1 with the latest TouchWiz interface, offering a 7-inch display, 3.5mm headphone jack and a front-facing camera.

There seems to be a “Phone” icon sitting at the left bottom corner of the Samsung Galaxy Tab’s display, which is interesting. Rumors say that Samsung is working on three Android tablets that are to be launched this year, the first being this 7-inch model, followed by an 8-inch device in October, and a 10-inch device in December.
