Man climbs wall like Spiderman, using vacuum gloves

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on July 26th, 2009

Jem Stansfield climbed to the top of the BBC White City building in west London. But here’s the thing: He wasn’t bit by a radioactive spider and his girlfriend isn’t named MJ. No, he managed the climb using some DIY vacuum gloves that were made out of a regular household vacuum cleaner.

Unlike Spidey, he was secured with a safety harness tied to his back, just in case. He built the gloves himself, in a stunt for a new BBC One science show called Bang Goes The Theory.

Dream Cheeky offers Spiderman webcam for geeks

spidermanwebcam-sbI was never a fan of comic books in my youth, but I did like the Spiderman TV series that used to come on and Hulk when I was a kid. I also enjoy the movies from Marvel that have been coming with increased frequency. That said, I am not such a big fan that I would buy the toys or other items with superheroes on them.

If you are a big fan of Spiderman and want something else to go along with your posters and Underoos with the web-slinging hero on them, Dream Cheeky has a new Spiderman USB webcam that looks like a retro film camera.

X-men Papercraft figures are fairly awesome, still Uncanny

X-men Papercraft figures are fairly awesome, still UncannyThese paper toys are cute and they aren’t afraid to do battle with paper villains. But paper cuts can be deadly to them. You can download them at harlancore for free, print them out and start folding one. After that, just play with them on your desk. There’s Spiderman, Cyclops, Wolverine, Magneto and Professor X. And they are all sticking their tongues out at you. There are more characters available as well, like Storm, Beast etc. Nerd toys don’t get much cuter.

In-ear headphones for Superheroes & nerds alike

In-ear headphones for Superheroes & nerds alikeLook, we all know you’ve taken the Superhero thing way too far. Just the other day I saw you ride by on your modified Batman big-wheel and return hours later with your ass kicked. And that wasn’t the first time. It might be better to give your butler a break from tending your wounds and just chill. Listen to some music while you’re living out your fantasies through comic books.

And these are the perfect headphones. This way you can still feel like a hero without suffering the indignity of getting a wedgie from the Joker. These headphones are from the Greenhouse electronics company and clearly inspired by our favorite bat and spider. In fact you can choose from 13 different models, all with a frequency response of 20Hz-20,000Hz, an impedance of 16 ohms, and a maximum input of 3 megawatts.

Marvel Comics on your cell phone

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on May 27th, 2008

Marvel Comics on your cell? The time may be close at hand when you can peruse Marvel comics on your cell phone. The comics industry had to embrace it someday, sales being what they are. I’m just wondering how they are going to deal with such a small screen. They may just offer snippets that give you the whole story, or let you view a frame at a time. But are comics any good viewed in that way?

I mean, is that kind of severe eye strain worth finding out whether Spiderman beat his latest foe? Or if Wolverine finally bagged Jean Grey? A better bet might be to subscribe to Marvel’s online service that costs between $5 to $10 monthly. Still, anything that brings geeks together with comics is a good thing.
