Sony's aluminum VGP-BMS10 Bluetooth laser mouseIf you’re looking for something a bit more attractive in a laser mouse, check out this shiny aluminum beauty. The VGP-BMS10 Bluetooth mouse features an aluminum case and a sliding cover that also acts as an on/off switch, and will protect the buttons and wheel.

That’s really all we know. Ourselves, our readers and little children all have questions left unanswered. Such as…Mommy, is this where all of our recycled aluminum cans go? Sadly, probably not dear.

Sony PS3 price-cut rumored for August

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on June 9th, 2009

PS3 price cut coming soon? You know the drill, Sony maintains that a PS3 price-cut isn’t in their game plan, but according to the latest leaks coming out from unnamed industry sources, the console will get a $100 reduction come mid-August. This is far from the first time we’ve heard this rumor. It was last making the rounds in February. But we think it’s looking more likely now and we expect this one to pan out.

The news comes from analyst Arvind Bhatia, who tips Sony as reducing the PS3 just prior to the launch of Madden on August 18th. Reduced price plus Madden will get Sony a ton of sales. It doesn’t hurt that this would coincide with the back-to-school shopping season.

Sony working on an Android Walkman?

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on June 8th, 2009

Sony working on an Android Walkman?Word on the street is that Sony has a possible Android-powered Sony Walkman coming soon. It sounds weird, but it’s very possible and it makes sense. Android doesn’t cost a penny and it’s highly customizable, with built-in media playback capabilities, and works great on touchscreen devices.

It’s a great way to spruce up some of their product lines and get some renewed interest. Did we mention that Android doesn’t cost anything? Yeah, this makes a lot of sense. But we’ll have to wait and see how it all turns out.

PSP Go forces you to buy all-new accessories

Posted in PSP Go! by Conner Flynn on June 8th, 2009

PSP Go forces you to buy all-new accessoriesSony has a bunch of accessories that will be available for PSP Go when it hits US shelves on October 1. The usual stuff, like cases, wrist straps, Sony-branded screen protectors etc. Problem is the handheld doesn’t have a standard mini USB port like the PSP-3000, so you will have to buy all new accessories.

The PSP Go has a new multifunction port on its base that is used for everything, whether it’s data transfer, charging or video output. Asking owners of the older model to change a USB cable would have been fine, we think. But the fact that components like A/V cables, voice headsets and pretty much anything made to work with the 3000, are completely incompatible is a real slap in the face to PSP owners.

DIY PSP laptop mod

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on June 5th, 2009

DIY PSP laptopSure, the PSP Go! looks awesome. It’s slimmer, lighter, has downloads instead of UMD. But where’s the full QWERTY keyboard? Acidmods forum member folklord36’s PSP Laptop does have QWERTY, thanks to an Xbox Chat Pad. It also has relocated speakers, LED lighting and more.

The screen section is a modified Joytech visor that has the same finish as the PSP, and its sturdy hinge can be positioned at anything up to 180-degrees. We don’t know how long it took him to create this or how much it cost, but we wouldn’t mind having one ourselves.

Sony’s Media Go app store

Sony's Media Go app storeThe PSP Go may not have been big news thanks to all of the leaks, but Media Go is big news for Sony. Think of it as Sony’s “Itunes” that runs on a PC to sync content with your PSP. Sense Me is the equivalent of Genius and will display related content that users might like as well, based on what it already knows and and deliver custom music playlists.

All future PSP apps will be digitaly delivered via the Playstation Store. Sense Me? That’s the best name they could come up with?

PlayStation Motion Controller launching in 2010

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on June 2nd, 2009

PlayStation Motion Controller launching 2010Sony’s rumored PlayStation Motion Controller is real. Well, we knew that much. It will be launching in 2010. Sony showed it off at Sony’s E3 press conference and SCEA’s Jack Tretton claims it’s an experience “closer to real-life than anything you’ve ever seen.”

The Controller will work in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye, which will capture it’s movements for “true one-to-one tracking.” Sony showed off a bunch of demos for use with the motion controller, including sword swinging, tank-based third-person shooting, archery, tennis and drawing.

Sony PSP Go! gets official, $249

Posted in PSP Go! by Conner Flynn on June 2nd, 2009

PSP Go leaks out before E3Sony just announced the PSP Go! at E3. Haz Kirai joked that it had two names: The “worst kept secret at E3.” and the PSP Go! As expected, the slider has a 3.8-inch LCD, built-in Bluetooth and 16GB of internal storage.

It’s also 50 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter than the original PSP. When you lose a UMD drive, you’re bound to shed some pounds, right? With no UMD drive, the games will load through the Memory Stick Micro slot or over the PlayStation Network. Sony says that the classic PSP will still be supported and loved on. Are you shedding a tear for the UMD? Be honest.

PSP Go! to be announced at E3, PS3 Slim is real

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on May 28th, 2009

Sony unveiling new PSP with slide-out buttons at E3?Ars Technica has a “very well-informed mole” that says that the rumored flash-based PSP Go! will be announced at E3. Then, later it will be sold right alongside the current model. As for the PS3 Slim, it’s real. And slim. But we don’t expect an announcement next week. We aren’t sure when.

Just a regurgitation of rumors we’ve already heard? Ars seems confident about the info. Either their mole is right or dead wrong. Their source says that the new PSP will be lighter and smaller possibly even cheaper. The PS3 Slim is just Sony doing what they do. They always miniaturize their consoles.

Sony Vaio P sheds Vista for XP

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on May 26th, 2009

vaiop-sbSony showed off its new Vaio P back in January at CES 2009. The little machine was nice looking, but the odd size that is long and thin left a bit to be desired in my book. The screen was freakishly narrow and wide making for some strange font sizes.

Sony has now announced that it is shedding Vista as the OS of choice for the expensive Vaio P and going with Windows XP. I think the addition of Vista to begin with was a way for Sony to justify that the P wasn’t a netbook — which it is.

PSP Extended Life Battery Kit back on sale

Posted in PSP by Conner Flynn on May 25th, 2009

Sony PSP Extended Life Battery KitThis battery kit was originally announced back in November of 2007. The PSP Extended Life Battery Kit promised to give you about 20 percent more battery life for $45. Then, it seemed that Sony pulled the thing in 2008.

Anyhow, now it’s back. You can find the PlayStation Portable Extended Life Battery Kit back on Sony’s website for $44.99. Looks like they are Backordered at the moment, but you can always get in line. You can always use more battery life.

Sony 400-disc Blu-ray changer

Posted in Blu-ray by Conner Flynn on May 21st, 2009

Sony 400-disc Blu-ray changerLooks like Sony will be releasing a 400-disc ES Series Blu-ray “Ultra Player” soon, for people who never leave the house. If this isn’t big enough to hold all of your movies, you need to get out from in front of the TV more. Do you think anyone owns 400 Blu-Ray discs yet? Maybe one guy out there.

Anyhow, we will soon see two new Blu-ray products from Sony: BDP-CX960 and BDP-CX7000ES. Most likely the CX960 will feature a 200 disc changer and the top of the line ES model will have a 400 disc capacity. Expect the Es model to cost about $2250.

Sony considers music downloads for PSP

Posted in PSP by Conner Flynn on May 21st, 2009

50 million PSPs sold worldwideCNET has word that Sony’s been talking to some of the big recording labels about putting their music on the PlayStation Network for download, specifically for the PSP. It makes sense. The service already has a growing library of movies and TV shows. It’s just lacking music.

And since Sony is one of the four largest music companies in the world, they should be able to provide a few good artists. It resides in rumor territory for now, but we’d be real surprised if this didn’t happen. The PSP has never really lived up to it’s potential. This could help.

Details of Sony a230, a330, and a380 DSLRs emerge

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on May 18th, 2009

sonya230-sbSony has been offering its line of Alpha DSLR cameras for a while now. Many of its cameras are not targeted at entry-level DSLR users in price of features. Sony has announced full details for its new DSLR cameras including the a230, a330, and a380 cameras.

We talked a bit about the cameras earlier this month, but at the time no details were available. We now know that the a230 and the a330 are both 10.2-megapixel cameras. The a230 is being billed as the lightest and most compact DSLR camera body ever offered at 15.9-ounces.
