Facebook Apologizes for Study

Facebook ExperimentA study that was recently conducted targeting the emotions of Facebook users has caused some backlash.

The study done by Facebook and researchers at UC San Deigo and Yale was conducted through Facebook back in Jan of 2012. The researchers changed the algorithms on over 700,000 users news feeds to see if positive and negative posts could actually changed the emotions of the readers.

What was done basically proved that when everyone in your news feed is happy, it makes you happy. And when everyone in your news feed is sad, it makes you sad. Shocker.

What is not cool about it is that they did it without the users knowledge. People are extremely upset about it, and rightly so. This is like basically having an appointment with a psychologist without your knowledge. But Facebook and the authors of the study are claiming it “was …

Twitter Testing Mute Option

Twitter Testing a Mute OptionAccording to reports from some users, Twitter has been testing out a new “Mute” function in its Twitter interface. The mute option reportedly will allow a user to block another user’s tweets and retweets from their timeline.

Some Twitter users had posted screenshots of the new menu option with the ability to mute a particular person that they were following, but the feature has not been rolled out to everyone or publicly announced. Users of third party applications like TweetBot and TweetDeck with not find this feature as anything new, as it has been widely used and popular with those system.

Disney launches new Social Media site

Mickey and the gang are launching a new social media site called Disney Memories. The idea is to share your favorite memories about your experiences with Disney and its theme parks. So it is a lot of PR as well as Social media. Users can upload photos, videos, and talk about their experiences.

It should be noted that users will also be agreeing to the End User Licensing Agreement, which means that you agree to have your memories featured in the company’s Let the Memories Begin campaign. If selected your videos can appear in TV ads and be featured in Disneyworld’s Cinderella Castle and Disneyland’s It’s a Small World.
