Apple Announces the Apple Watch for 2015

Apple WatchApple announced on Tuesday the release of the much anticipated Apple Watch and along with it came just about every feature speculated in the months coming up to is arrival. The new wearable technology comes in three different styles, the standard Watch, the Watch Sport targeting the fitness minded and the Watch Edition with a little more elegant and sophisticated look.

The features include, as you might expect with a digital interface, many face options including stopwatches, stock quotes, weather updates, photos, drawings, the digital time or simulated watch hands to name a few. It will also automatically keep the time adjusted correctly, even when you move through time zones or into daylight savings time.

Samsung Announces Gear S Smartwatch

Samsung Gear S SmartwatchAlong with the Gear VR headset, Samsung today announced the Gear S Smartwatch, Samsung’s sixth, (yes six) entry into the wrist-wearable technology space. What’s so special about this smartwatch is that it can run on its own – no need for a smartphone to go along with it and communicate. It has a built-in nano SIM card and came make its own phone calls and receive emails directly to the device. You can even type emails right on the Gear S with a tiny touchscreen keyboard. Whether or not you want to do that might still be in question.

The Gear S features a 2-inch curved AMOLED screen at 260×480 with interchangeable bands and a slot for the SIM card in the back. In addition to calls and emails, it will support turn by turn navigation, a news feed and a couple of running apps from Nike+ and S Health.

Adidas Announces Smart Watch for Runners

Adidas Smart WatchAdidas announced on Wednesday the release of a new smartwatch targeting runners, putting some additional competition in the wearable exercise devices with Nike’s Fuelband and the Fitbit Force.

According to Paul Gaudio, the vice president in charge of Adidas’ interactive division, the Adidas smartwatch is focusing on making the best running watch as apposed to competing in the smartwatch space with Google and Apple. The Adidas smartwatch includes the ability to connect through Bluetooth with a smartphone but will require less dependency by incorporating flash storage for music right on the wrist-worn device. It also has features to give real-time feedback to the user while exercising by tracking heart rate and motion, and then producing vibrations or audible feedback through headphones.

The watch isn’t coming cheap however with an expected price tag of $399. Compared to the Nike Fuelband it comes …

Rumors of Google Smartwatch Leaked

The device is codenamed Gem and would be announced as a Nexus watch from Google.

The watch would benefit from the features of Google Now, could integrate nicely with Google Glasses and show information such as emails, texts and calendar alerts on the display. This news comes hot on the heals of the announcement of Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch utilizing the Android OS, along with talk of Apple releasing their own smartwatch sometime in 2014.

Google’s recent purchase of smartwatch maker WIMM Labs also adds some validity to this talk. According to the rumor Google is just finishing up on final touches with improving the battery …

inPulse Smartwatch for BlackBerry available for pre-order, shipping in February

inPulse Smartwatch for BlackBerry available for pre-order, shipping in FebruaryThe first BlackBerry watch is almost here, and it turns out that RIM really did decide to outsource it’s production. The inPulse Smartwatch for BlackBerry is being produced by Allerta, and will use Bluetooth for incoming emails, text messages and other alerts from your handset to your wrist.

Some specs include a 1.3-inch OLED display, glass lens, full metal body, vibrating motor, microUSB port and a rechargeable battery that will last about four days of “normal use.” inPulse users will need to install a special BlackBerry application to pass along information, but you won’t be able to use your watch to actually send messages. It’s available for pre-order right now at $149, and they should start shipping in February.
