Tauntaun sleeping bag now available for preorderIt all started as an April Fools Joke last year from ThinkGeek and that’s all it took to make the Tauntaun sleeping bag a hit. Fans demanded that it be made for real. The company has now made it so and you can finally preorder your very own for $100.

It’s a sleeping bag that looks just like a Tauntaun, with a saddle, printed intestines, and even a plush lightsaber zipper pull. Yes, but does it smell worse on the inside? Kinda depends on how often you use it I guess.

Tauntaun sleeping bag closer to becoming a reality

Tauntaun sleeping bagYou may remember ThinkGeek posting an April Fool’s joke about a Tauntaun sleeping bag in April. We covered it here ourselves. Well, ThinkGeek was flooded with e-mails from people who, like us, wanted to own one for real. They got so many emails that they decided to explore the possibility.

The good news for us is that things are looking up. Think Geek PR man Shane Peterman says: “We are definitely trying to make it into an actual item to be sold on our site. As of right now, it’s still an “if,” but it’s turning into more of a “when.” Things are looking pretty good, we just don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. There’s certainly been enough of a demand, both from customers and from those of us that work here. Right now, we’re aiming to have it available for the holidays or, at the latest, the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back next spring.”

Tauntaun sleeping bag

Tauntaun sleeping bagSay you’re a rebel stationed on the ice planet Hoth. You venture from the safety of Echo base to find your missing friend. You’re locked out because they secure the base at night. So, you find your friend and he’s injured.

You have two options: Either slice open the belly of a Tauntaun and put your friend in it’s warm belly(Ewww!) or warm him up with this Tauntaun sleeping bag. I vote the sleeping bad, because we all know that Tauntauns smell even worse on the inside.
