Lenovo LePad headed to US in 2011

Posted in Lenovo by Conner Flynn on November 14th, 2010

Good news if you are waiting for Lenovo’s LePad. CEO Yang Yuanqing has told the Wall Street Journal that the Android tablet is scheduled for a 2011 US launch. Lenovo’s COO Rory Read had previously said that the LePad wouldn’t ship in the US until a tablet-ready version of Android was ready to go, so apparently the company is confident that Google will deliver.

The tablet has been pushed into 2011 in China as well.

Google Tablet coming from Verizon

Make way for the first serious iPad competitor. According to Verizon Chief Exec Lowell McAdam, the carrier is working with Google on “a tablet computer.” The WSJ report is light on details as you might expect this early in the game, but Bloomberg scored the news that this tablet is said be Android-based, and that more details will be released later this week.

McAdam said that tablets are “part of the ‘next big wave of opportunities,’” and that Verizon’s “looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience.”. We should know more soon, but an Android/Verizon tablet already has us salivating.

Looks like Apple has updated its online store with a shipping date for the 3G version of the iPad. All versions of the tablet should be out by May 7th. That means that the iPad will fully out be out for American consumers three days ahead of the announcement of specific international availability.

That date relates to orders from here on out. Those in the UK and elsewhere might see the 3G and WiFi-only tablets coming out sometime around the end of May.

8.9-inch ExoPC Slate tablet

This 8.9-inch multitouch tablet looks a lot like another recently announced 9.7 multitouch tablet. But this one packs some different stuff inside, including full browser support with flash thanks to Windows 7 on an Atom N270 at 1.6GHz, with 2GB of DDR2 memory and a 32GB SSD with SD expansion.

It may not give you the speedy performance of the iPad, but it will be a lot more functional. Battery life is four hours and is user-replaceable. The $599 price is the same as the 32GB iPad. Expect it to be available in March. It still has a large bezel, but what are you gonna do?

DigitalRise S1 Slate

Apple’s announcement of their tablet is a few days away so manufacturers are trying to get their versions out first. And so DigitalRise has released the S1 Slate, a cheaper version of its multitouch X9. Most of us will likely still wait a few days to see what Apple’s has, but here’s a look at what this $630 tablet offers. It does look nice.

Some specs include an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard disk, 10.2-inch display at 1024 x 600 resolution, 3000mAh lithium-ion battery, 1.3 megapixel webcam, Wi-Fi and Windows 7. Is it an Apple tablet killer? Doubt it, but we will know soon.
