Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on July 22nd, 2010

Samsung has unveiled a new and compact digital camera that still packs in lots of resolution and other features. The camera is called the PL200 and measures in at 3.9″ x 2.3″ x 0.83″.

Despite the small size of the camera the little beast packs in a 14.2-megapixel sensor and has a rear LCD that measures 3-inches and has a resolution of 230k and can shoot HD resolution video. The video is recorded in 720p at 30 frames per second in H.264 format.

Samsung has launched two new mid-range compact digital cameras, the ST600 (27mm, f4.9) and ST100 (35mm, f6.3) Both cameras ave a lot in common. All of the software and features are similar, and both have a dual-screen system activated by a tap on the front display.

These cameras come with KREUZNACH lenses with optical and digital image stabilization with a 5X zoom. The image resolution is 14 Megapixel with an ISO of 3200, for dim lighting. The cameras are loaded with features, and presets as well. The main difference between the ST600 and the ST100 is that the ST600 features a wide(r)-angle, and it is more sensitive to light.

Samsung SpinPoint MT2 2.5-inch 1TB HDD

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 20th, 2010

Samsung is now shipping the Spinpoint MT2, a 2.5-inch 1TB internal hard drive for use with mobile applications and set top boxes (DVRs, Digital TVs etc.), where you want your drives to run quiet and cool. The drive only runs at 5400 rpm, which is typical for such high-capacity drives. It uses Samsung’s proprietary SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technologies.

This drive should be fast enough for an HD digital video recorder and is likely to be much quieter than a 3.5″ disk. No word yet on price, but it should start making the rounds soon.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, the company’s upcoming Android-powered tablet has now been confirmed to feature a pair of cameras. Obviously one of them is used for capturing video while the other is for still shots.

We don’t have any word on megapixel count yet, but it will likely have a similar camera to the Samsung Galaxy range of smartphones. Some other specifications include GPS navigation, Wi-Fi and 3G, and a pre-October release date has mentioned in rumors.

Windows 7 Tablets coming this year

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on July 12th, 2010

According to Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer, there are several Windows 7 tablets coming. Ballmer made the remarks at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference today. We knew that Windows 7 tablets were coming. We already know about the Asus Eee Pad after all. But in addition to Asus, Ballmer also mentioned Dell, Samsung, Toshiba and Sony and Windows 7 tablet partners, with products on shelves “in the coming months.”

It’s pretty ambitious to announce this at this time. Apparently the idea is that they’ll be IT department-friendly, but we aren’t sure how since tablets are mostly about content and not productivity. I guess we will see soon.

Samsung Galaxy Beam hits Singapore on July 17th

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 11th, 2010

Samsung is ready to release their first cellphone with a pico-projector built-in, the Galaxy Beam. We heard about this one awhile back and though it sounds like a weapon from an old Sci-Fi movie, don’t worry, your galaxies are safe. For now.

The pico-projector in this one is built by Texas Instruments and can display projections from 5 to 50 inches in size. The Android 2.1 phone also features a 3.7 inch WVGA AMOLED, 8 MP camera, FM, Wi-fi, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS and 16 GB storage.

It’s official, the Captivate, AT&T’s version of Samsung’s global Galaxy S line of high-end Android phones, will be available on Sunday, July 18 for $199 on contract with no rebate needed. That pricing is no surprise, since T-Mobile priced the Vibrant the same way.

All four US nationals are getting this device very soon and that’s pretty impressive for Samsung. Will you be getting one? Let us know why or why not.

Samsung Intercept now available for pre-order

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 7th, 2010

Looks like Sprint is now offering the Samsung Intercept for pre-order on it’s EVP site. Best Buy did already sell one by accident for $100, so it looks like that may be the price for everyone, not just business customers.

They are asking $99.99 on a two-year contract after rebate. As for features, there’s a 3.2 megapixel cam with video capture, slide-out QWERTY keyboard and your choice of Gray Steel or Satin Pink finishes. We may see an official launch this weekend.

Posted in monitors by Conner Flynn on July 7th, 2010

Fans of Samsung’s Touch of Color design scheme will be glad to know that it’s still in place on the company’s new “eco-friendly” LED displays. Samsung is debuting its 50 and 30 series panels today, with the BX2350 and BX2335.

Both offer a 2ms response time, 1080p resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and a feature called Magic Return. Magic return lets users working with two monitors have their desktop automatically moved to a powered-on screen if one screen happens shuts down for whatever reason.

Samsung intros three new Q-series notebooks

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2010

Samsung has introduced a trio of new notebooks in the Q-series, including the 13.3-inch Q330, 14-inch Q430 and 15.6-inch Q530. All have 720p displays. The flagship Q530 measures just over an inch thick, and packs in a 2.26GHz Intel Core i3, though a Core i5 is optional, and NVIDIA’s 1GB GeForce GT 330M is installed.

The same chipset is available as an option on the smaller Q430, which has a 512MB GeForce 310M as standard. It shares the same Core i3 chip and 4GB of RAM as the Q530, but with a smaller, 320GB hard drive.

Samsung Dive remotely locks, wipes your Wave, Galaxy S for free

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 4th, 2010

You need to be prepared in case you lose your phone. To that end, Samsung has introduced its Samsung Dive feature which is an extension of Mobile Tracker, helping users lock or wipe the phone in the event of a theft or loss.

You can also receive notifications online when the SIM card is taken out and replaced with a new one, or get the phone’s location sent to you at the same time. Sadly, the tracking feature will not be enabled in all countries due to legal and security reasons, but it will help some of us.

Samsung Wave shipping in the US, $499 unlocked

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 4th, 2010

Holy crap. What’s with that model’s eyes? She looks like she is about to sprout vampire teeth and drink my blood. Probably without even having hot vampire sex with me. Would you buy a phone from her? It’s creepy. It’s like I’m being threatened to buy or else her and her husband, the Joker will have their way with me while Batman watches.

Anyway, the Samsung Wave has already hit the UK last month, but folks in the US have yet to get their hands on it. Now Amazon is offering the smartphone to US customers for $440 without a contract commitment.

Samsung Galaxy S does video out via 3.5 mm headset jack

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 4th, 2010

Who would have guessed that you could pump video out of a 3.5mm headset jack? The recently released Galaxy S has been confirmed to offer video out through its 3.5mm headset jack. The international version of the Samsung Galaxy S comes with a TV out option that is built into the display settings, allowing you to pick your TV type (PAL or NTSC).

But you will need the appropriate cable to go from the 3.5mm jack to the standard AV ports on your TV. This mirrors the handset’s display on the TV in real time. We hope the US versions of the Galaxy S will come with this feature, but who knows.
