Samsung Touchscreen Media Player YP-MB2 gets spotted

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on August 2nd, 2010

The Samsung YP-MB2 iPod touch competitor has been making its way around the net, seen in blurry videos, but now the device is apparently getting close to being official. I mean, just look at this much clearer picture of the device.

Looking at the picture, it definitely resembles the Galaxy S, but there is no front-facing camera and proximity sensor. Looks like the YP-MB2 features a lower resolution camera, 3.2-megapixels. This one is expected to be announced on August 11th, and it should be offered in capacities from 8GB to 32GB.

Samsung’s Android tablet may drop at August 11 event

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on August 1st, 2010

Samsung gave some hints on Friday that its Galaxy Tab slate could be launched within just two weeks. The company confirmed in a public statement that the seven-inch Android tablet should ship before the end of the summer, but interestingly it also sent out an invite for a special event on August 11 that might include the Galaxy Tab.

The notice to CrunchGear and other members of the press didn’t give clues, but it indicated that there would be “new products and announcements” and not just existing products. So, it makes sense.

Samsung Galaxy S will do MicroUSB to HDMI for Video Out

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 28th, 2010

Samsung’s Galaxy S was originally only able to do video out using a 3.5mm audio jack, which is fine, but not if you want to output high-resolution videos. But now Samsung has introduced a Micro USB to HDMI cable that should make viewing videos from your Galaxy S on your HDTV much easier. We didn’t know that was possible, but we’re game.

The cable will cost $50 and will be compatible with Galaxy S phones like the Samsung Vibrant and Samsung Captivate from T-Mobile and AT&T.

Samsung sending free Galaxy S handsets to unhappy iPhone 4 users on Twitter?

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 24th, 2010

Samsung has been quietly giving out free Galaxy S handsets (the European version) to a few lucky British Twitter users. Apparently four of them were complaining about their iPhone 4s, while the fifth guy needed help to choose between the Desire, iPhone 4 and Galaxy S.

It looks like they are only picking certain ones though for some cheap publicity. For instance, Tiffany works in Digital Marketing for Condé Nast. The other ones also appear to be involved in marketing or publishing, with the exception of one student.

Samsung mocks Apple

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 23rd, 2010

Samsung just couldn’t resist taking a shot at Apple over the whole Death Grip issue. As Apple is beginning to process the iPhone 4 bumper case refunds today, Samsung UK took a moment to gloat and have some fun by posting a Galaxy S ad.

The ad references the Death Grip and reminds users that the Galaxy S has strong cellular reception. Apple fanboys won’t like it, but it’s pretty funny. Nice one Samsung.

Microsoft’s lineup of partners for the upcoming Windows Phone 7 launch is impressive. Microsoft has confirmed that Dell and HTC will be making Windows Phone 7 phones, as well as ASUS, LG, and Samsung.

All of these companies should have their stamp firmly in place on the hardware by the end of the year. The launch of the OS is slated for the “holidays.” These are good partners to have for this OS. We are really looking forward to what they deliver. Expectations are high for this one.

Samsung SpinPoint MT2 2.5-inch 1TB HDD

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 20th, 2010

Samsung is now shipping the Spinpoint MT2, a 2.5-inch 1TB internal hard drive for use with mobile applications and set top boxes (DVRs, Digital TVs etc.), where you want your drives to run quiet and cool. The drive only runs at 5400 rpm, which is typical for such high-capacity drives. It uses Samsung’s proprietary SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technologies.

This drive should be fast enough for an HD digital video recorder and is likely to be much quieter than a 3.5″ disk. No word yet on price, but it should start making the rounds soon.
