Circuit City stores have their last weekend hurrah

Circuit CityThere was once a time when if you wanted something electronic you went to either Circuit City or Best Buy in many areas. The two stores were among the top electronics retailers in the country. The same can’t be said any more. Today Best Buy is strong, and Walmart is picking up steam in the electronics market and Circuit City is a ghost of its former self.

Circuit City went under this year and since January liquidation firms have been running sales to move the left over inventory that the electronics firm was unable to sell before going out of business. According to the firms behind the liquidation events, all of the Circuit city locations will close March 8.

PS3 price cut coming soon?

PS3 price cut coming soon?An analyst with Janco, Mike Hickey, says that a major price cut for the PS3 could be on the way in the next few days. According to Hickey (Who I’m assuming has no marks on his neck) the price drop needs to be at least $100 to get retail sales moving again.

If it doesn’t happen, Sony console sales are expected to continue to decline. This wouldn’t be a huge surprise, but we’ll have to see what happens.

Circuit City liquidation has sold more than $1 billion in goods

Posted in circuit city by Shane McGlaun on February 19th, 2009

Circuit CitySome were sad to hear that Circuit City was closing its doors permanently when the announcement was made. The electronics giant tried all it could to avoid closing its doors, including a failed attempt to get Blockbuster to purchase it.

We have talked about the big discounts on electronics that are being offered in the going out of business sales running at Circuit City locations before. The company running the liquidation sales for Circuit City has announced that so far over $1 billion of the $1.7 billion in inventory has been sold.

Xbox Live Gold subscription at Amazon for $29.97Yep, you read that right! Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold subscription, which normally costs you $50 annually, is being sold by Amazon right now for $29.97. We have no idea what it means, but a similar discount was apparently happening at Buy.com last week. Could it mean that Microsoft might be moving toward a lower price for the subscription?

We have no idea. Who cares about “why” or “how”, we just think it’s awesome. Any 40% markdown that leaves us some extra cash for games is fine by us.

Circuit City stores closing means huge discounts

Posted in circuit city by Shane McGlaun on November 6th, 2008

Circuit City LogoThe economy is weak as we all know and when the economy is weak sales of certain items tend to drop. The car industry is hurting as is the home industry. Consumer electronics are still predicted to grow, but despite that, Circuit City has found itself in a world of trouble.

Circuit City stock prices were so low that the only way to try to save the company was to announce the closing of 154 stores in the U.S. to help get the company back into the black. The closing of stores is bad news for employees and shareholders, but it is good news for consumers looking for good deals.
