Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on March 26th, 2009

Snow Leopard soon to have new "marble" look?Apple has reportedly been working on this new interface since day one, even though publicly claiming that Snow Leopard would be more about performance and stability enhancements than sweeping feature changes. Even so AppleInsider claims that an upcoming 10.6 developer beta could feature a new UI codnamed “marble.”

Apparently it would be sleeker than the current look, and there’s some speculation that the new scrollbars in iTunes and iPhoto offer a glimpse into the future, along with the mockup of the new QuickTime X player above.

DSi to get Virtual Console for Game Boy games?

Posted in Nintendo DSi by Conner Flynn on March 24th, 2009

Nintendo planning its own Dsi App Store? The Wii has a Virtual Console that lets you download games from the NES, SNES, etc. But there are no Game Boy games. That could be because they were saving them for the Nintendo DSi.

A rumour on game site Kombo seems to confirm that thinking. Apparently at a recent event for Club Nintendo members, it was announced that the DSi would be getting its own Virtual Console. Where you could buy Game Boy & Game Boy Advance titles. The games would be saved to an SD card and would at first be limited to first-party Nintendo titles.

Next iPhone to get Internet speed boost

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on March 22nd, 2009

Apple teams up with Adobe for iPhone FlashThere have been some rumors about the upcoming third generation of the iPhone, but now those rumors are shifting toward a serious Internet boost in the next model. Apparently someone in the know has stated that the new iPhone’s connection will be “significantly faster” but does that refer to the WiFi or the cellular connection? Maybe both.

Some experts suspect that the tip refers to a boost in Internet speed, with the addition of speed-doubled 7.2Mbps 3G. Which make sense, since Infineon will be releasing a new 3G chip this year. Also, AT&T has been testing their 7.2Mbps 3G service for awhile and that should roll out this year as well.

Is the Apple Netbook actually an Ebook?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on March 11th, 2009

Rumored Apple Netbook rumored to have a 10" screenRumors continue to swirl around whatever(if anything) Apple is building. Reports are that Apple has ordered 10-inch touchscreens from Taiwan. That part is looking more like fact. So the question is, will those screens end up in a netbook?

Andy Ihnatko of the Chicago Sun-Times has a slightly different and interesting theory about the device. He thinks it might be an ebook. Which makes more sense as the only real competitor they would have is Amazon.

Rumored Apple Netbook rumored to have a 10" screenIf yesterday’s Apple rumor got your attention , Dow Jones Newswire has chimed in with their own sources and a few extra tidbits.

They more or less report the same story, that Apple is allegedly planning a touchscreen netbook for release later this year. But the new report mentions a display size of “between 9.7-inches and 10-inches,”. As for what form-factor it will take, that’s still a mystery.

New PSP to be a slider?

Posted in PSP by Conner Flynn on February 23rd, 2009

New PSP to be a slider? What are the odds? There’s a rumor floating around on the internet. And it involves the PSP. That’s never happened before… Sarcasm aside, this latest rumor predicts an actual lustworthy design that includes a sliding screen and yet no new hardware inside.

If true, that means it’ll have the exact same internal guts as your current model, it will just be more cellphone-like. On one hand, i’d be glad they upped the design and payed attention to various fan renders like the one above, but what good does that do you if the innards don’t match?

Posted in Mac by Conner Flynn on February 19th, 2009

Leaked photo of the next-gen Mac Mini? This is interesting. According to MacRumors, this could possibly be the next-gen Mac mini we’ve been waiting for. It seems to correspond to other rumored “leaks” that have been popping up and it sports five USB ports, FireWire 800, Mini DisplayPort, and Mini DVI. Hmmm. Photoshop? Wishful thinking?

This pic also hit AppleInsider at the same time and the MacRumors forum poster has included some alleged specs: a 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB Level 2 cache, 2GB DDR 3 memory at 1066MHz and a ATA Super Drive. The question is, are you buying this?

Three new iPhones rumored for 2009

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on February 8th, 2009

New iPhone in June?According to an analyst with the Canadian research firm Canaccord Adams, three new iPhones will appear in 2009. According to a report on Seeking Alpha, analyst Peter Misek identifies the most lavish of the trio as a 32GB iPhone 3G that will be available in a variety of colors. Then there’s a lower-cost handset based on the 2.5G iPhone, which is targeted for China and India. Third is a smaller version of the phone, about one-third the size of the 3G iPhone that will cost 40% less and we should see that one by year’s end.

The rumor seems to be gaining traction, and it fits with some of what we’ve been hearing, but we are taking it with the usual grain of salt until we hear more.

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on February 3rd, 2009

New iPhone in June?If you’re on the lookout for the next iPhone, Apple is in the habit of refreshing the iPod and iPhone on a somewhat regular schedule. Therefore a new iPhone arriving in June wouldn’t be a surprise. Business 24/7 mentions a brand new iPhone in June.

As usual, take it for the rumor that it is. It could be a mistake, or a misquote, or even a conspiracy to throw us off, but it’s interesting. We’ll just have to wait and see. Meanwhile, over at Apple Insider there is mention of an upcoming iPhone with an architecture overhaul. iPhone nano anyone?

Apple working on a 15-inch MacBook Air?

Posted in MacBook by Conner Flynn on January 18th, 2009

Apple working on a 15-inch MacBook Air?Another week, another rumor. Chinese site Apple.pro is saying there’s a 15-inch MacBook Air in the works. We can’t dismiss this one outright because a 15 inch MacBook Air would be an interesting compromise between portability and screen, so color us intrigued.

It’s very possible, but we are taking it with the usual grain of salt, even though Apple.pro was dead on about the leaked unibody MacBook pictures. As usual, I guess we will find out in time. Are any of you interested in a MacBook that’s thin and light with a big screen? I’m sure you are.

Here we go again: iPhone nano now rumored for June

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 13th, 2009

Here we go again: iPhone nano now rumored for JuneMacworld just ended and already we have more iPhone Nano rumors. The Chinese trade paper Economic Daily News is now reporting that Taiwan Semiconductor Company (TSMC) will be handling chip manufacturing for a low-cost device being referred to as…cue music…The iPhone nano. The paper has a pretty good reputation, but take it with an iPhone sized grain of salt.

The source is citing a June launch of the handset, just after an order for the components in March. Apple does like to intro iPhones in the Summer, so if history is any indication, the timing fits. China has no deal for the iPhone, so a lower-cost version may be perfect for Asian markets. The nano could have a bunch of ready users.

24 & 28 inch iMac rumors

Posted in iMac by Conner Flynn on January 5th, 2009

24-inch iMac rumorAdd this one to the ever growing pantheon of Apple rumors. PCPerspective has reason to believe that Apple is preparing a 24″ iMac. They say that we will get a set of four new iMac computers announced this week. Two 20″ iMacs with an NVIDIA integrated-GPU chipset based on the MCP79 design (the same used in the most recent MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks) and one of those will include the mobility GeForce 9600-series discrete GPU as well. This integrated + discrete graphics solution is basically identical the setup the new 15″ MacBook Pro includes.

If you buy into the hype, the 24″ iMacs will have the same integrated chipset but both of these will include discrete graphics solutions. The lower-end 24″ model will use the same mobility 9600 series that the MacBook Pro uses and the higher-end model will use a slightly faster GeForce 9800M solution. That would make the new 24″ iMac a useful gaming machine.

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on December 30th, 2008

Steve Jobs’ health decline reason for canceling Macworld? So many Apple rumors. Who can keep up with all of them? Most revolve around the latest gadgets from the company. The latest rumors are regarding Apple CEO Steve Jobs decision to not be a part of Macworld, cite to the state of his physical health as the reason. According to sources, “Apple misrepresented the reasons behind Macworld and Jobs’ keynote cancellation.” The real cause is said to be his rapidly declining health.

With this recent alleged news Apple has chosen to remove the “hype factor” instead of letting it later destroy the company when the news of Jobs’ health surfaces later this spring. Apparently, no longer needing Macworld is just a cover designed by the worldwide “loyalty” department.

iPhone nano case appears

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 15th, 2008

iPhone nano case appearsWe probably shouldn’t be basing predictions for important new Apple products on protective case mockups from China. Even so, things like this have revealed the truth in the past. iDealsChina is reporting that XSKN is working on a silicone skin for the upcoming “Nano iPhone” a shorter, chubbier version of the iPhone 3G.

According to iDealsChina sources, the phone will feature EDGE data, but otherwise is pretty identical in specs to its predecessors. Well, it has a smaller screen. According to them, Apple plans to sell tons of these for low prices in places like Walmart, and that the company will be unveiling the new handset in January during Macworld.

iPhone hitting Walmart by the end of December

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 8th, 2008

iPhone hitting Walmart by the end of DecemberRumors that Walmart would begin selling the iPhone soon have been around for a few days and we now have an answer thanks to Bloomberg. Yes, you’ll be able to get an iPhone at Walmart, and probably by Christmas. Store representatives at several locations confirmed that employees are being trained to sell the handset, which will hit shelves by the end of the month. This makes Walmart the second retail chain to sell the iPhone, and also the largest.

Any truth to the whole $99 4GB model deal? That isn’t confirmed, and is looking unlikely. The $99 iPhone will probably happen eventually according to some, but others claim that a Bentonville, Arkansas location will sell the 4GB model as well as the 8GB and 16GB versions, which have been confirmed at their normal $199 and $299 prices.
