iPhone 4G to get a 960 x 640 display?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on May 17th, 2010

We’re hearing more rumors about the upcoming iPhone 4G. The latest rumors say that the iPhone 4G will be getting a 960 x 640 pixel display. If the rumor is true, the device will not only get a higher resolution display, but will also a higher quality IPS (in-plane switching) panel along with FFS (fringe-field switching) technology to make it easier to read when outdoors. All of those changes would be welcome.

LG Display and Prime View International have been named as the suppliers for the new display. Apparently the panel will be a third thinner than previous models, which makes room for larger battery. Again, nice news if true. How about 512MB of RAM to double the iPhone 3GS and iPad?

Mini iPad to launch next year?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on April 8th, 2010

I know what you’re thinking. We already have a mini iPad in the iPod Touch. I hear ya. We’re just passing along the scuttlebutt. According to Digitimes a 5-7-inch iPad will be launching in 2011. Digitimes quoted senior analyst Mingchi Kuo, who himself works at Digitimes, as “citing talks with upstream component sources,” who have said the smaller iPad will measure between 5 – 7-inches, and will cost under $400 when it goes on sale early 2011.

It’s a funny idea best left on April 1st and quickly forgotten. Even though we know that way too many people would buy such a “Mini iPad” at that price.

Xbox 360 Slim shown off next to the current Xbox 360

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on March 30th, 2010

Okay, this is not confirmation of what the slim Xbox 360 actually looks like in any way. What this guy is holding certainly looks like a slimmed down Xbox 360, but really it could be anything dressed up to fool us. Whatever it is, it is small and Xbox-like.

The Dutch site Gamekings.tv had this dropped in their inbox. If this is the real deal, it looks pretty awesome. And of course, much smaller than it’s predecessor.

iPhone 4.0 software to finally deliver multitasking?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on March 11th, 2010

As good as the iPhone is, it has one major flaw. Of all its countless apps, you can only run one at a time. For instance if you want to check your email while you read the NY Times, forget it. You have to close the NY Times app and open the email app. That gets old real fast.

Well, according to some new rumors, there will be a new overhaul of the iPhone software this summer, which is timed with the release of an updated iPhone. The software would allow you to run multiple apps at once. Hopefully the rumors are true, because it’s long overdue.

Zune HD2 already on the way?

Posted in Zune HD by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2010

Seems like just the other day the Zune HD arrived, but already rumors are circulating about a Zune HD2 that “will be similar to an iPod Touch,” and could ship this year. It could be part of the “Windows Phone 7 Series platform” and run Windows Phone 7 apps.

There’s no word on when we might see this theoretical Zune HD successor, but a Zune with the Windows Phone 7 interface might be just the thing Microsoft is looking for to tie it all together. Hopefully we will hear more about this soon.

Will there be an iPad shortage at launch?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 1st, 2010

Peter Misek from Canaccord Adams says that the iPad could have some components supply issues that would limit the number of units available worldwide at launch to 300,000 units for the month of March. Apparently, there’s an unspecified production problem at the contracting company that manufactures the iPad.

They had hoped to have 1M units ready by launch. Apple had said during the iPad’s unveiling that the iPad would be available “worldwide” in “60 days” for the WiFi version and in 90 day for the 3G enabled version, so maybe this will only affect the WiFi version?

Real Apple iSlate ad?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on January 27th, 2010

We will know soon which rumors are real and which are fake regarding the Apple iSlate. This “iSlate advertisement” is pretty neat and seems professional enough. If this is the real deal, our fingers are going to be very busy indeed.

The ad is very Apple-like and yet not at the same time. Whether this is a real ad for Apple’s tablet or not, it’s fun to watch while we wait for the official word. Let us know what you think below.

Apple and HarperCollins negotiating e-book deal for tablet

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on January 18th, 2010

According to The Wall Street Journal, publishing company HarperCollins is in talks with Apple about bringing e-books to Apple’s rumored tablet. You know, the one that’s expected to be the focus of its January 27th event. That tablet.

Apparently other publishing companies have been in talks with Apple as well. Sure, e-book readers are what it’s all about at the moment, but soon after it will be all about being integrated into slates. It’s still unconfirmed and just a rumor, but this one makes logical sense and gels with what we’ve been hearing.

Nintendo DS2 to be announced this year?

Posted in Nintendo by Conner Flynn on January 17th, 2010

EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich believes that Nintendo will be releasing a new handheld in the next 15 months, and that they will make the announcement within the next eight months. That’s not all that surprising since they have to keep up with all of the other tech out there.

There isn’t any solid evidence here, so take it with the usual grain of salt for now. Though if true, I wonder what the big selling points will be. They have to keep Mario in step with the other handhelds and the DS is in serious need of a refresh.

iPhone 4G to be released in June?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 12th, 2010

Brace yourself for the latest iPhone 4G rumor. This will surprise no one, but according to sources in Korea, the next iPhone will likely be named the “iPhone 4G”. Sources even claim that KT has signed a deal with Apple to release the iPhone 4G in June, when the phone is launched worldwide.

The rumor claims that the iPhone 4G will feature 2 cameras for video calling, better battery life, and maybe mobile TV service (That could just be for Korea). What Do you think? Anything to these rumors?

Is Apple field testing the next generation iPhone?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on November 29th, 2009

iphone3g-sbIs Apple field testing the next generation iPhone? Could be. iPhone developer Pandav noticed some usage records of an unreleased iPhone in the iBART app’s analytics. The iPhone that’s listed in the usage logs is iPhone 3.1, which I don’t have to tell you, does not match any current iPhone.

The iPhone 3GS is listed as iPhone 2,1. While it wouldn’t be surprising to see that Apple is busy working on a new iPhone, (There are rumors that Verizon will be getting an iPhone somewhere in2010) is this the one?

Posted in Microsoft by Conner Flynn on November 11th, 2009

Project Natal shipping in November 2010: 14 Games, under $80?Looks like someone from a respected UK gaming publisher may have outed some Project Natal launch plans early, which come from closed-door Microsoft meetings in the UK . The information says that Microsoft will be manufacturing 5 million Natals for a worldwide launch in November 2010. Some are standalone, some in 360 bundles.

Natal will apparently cost anywhere from $50-$80 with 14 games included. The price is certainly in the ballpark and doesn’t surprise us. But it’s all just rumor and speculation until Microsoft says it officially.

RIM working on a touchscreen QWERTY slider hybrid?

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on September 28th, 2009

RIM working on a touchscreen QWERTY slider hybridWord on the street is that RIM is working on a new BlackBerry. One that will feature not just a touchscreen display, but also a slide out QWERTY keyboard. Such a device would definitely give users the best of both worlds and it adds flexibility.

The touchscreen would offer ease of use, while a QWERTY keyboard makes composing emails and text messages a breeze. At the moment this is just a rumor, but it wouldn’t surprise us at all.
