While we’re waiting with bated breath for a possible new updated Nintendo DS model that has been rumored, we thought we would take a look at some of our favorite DS mods. Like the Wii, modders love to spice up Nintendo’s boring design and put their own personal touches on the device. Some are weird, some are awesome, some will make you wonder what’s in the modder’s local water supply, but all are creative.

Many of us have fond memories of Pac-Man as well as other Namco arcade classics, so what could be better then putting a whole bunch of Namco classics in a portable? That’s what modder Sam Thornley did. The portable Pac-Man Mini console is built around one of those Jakks Pacific Namco Arcade Classic systems, with a tiny 2.5-inch LCD display and it gets it’s power from a set of 4 rechargeable AA batteries.

He did a great job as the end result is a nice clean retro looking portable that will match your Wii. Thanks to a direct composite video connection, the screen image is super sharp. It will play Pac-Man, Galaxian, Rally-X, Bosconian, and Dig Dug.

Meet the Room Tech Beingz Alarm Clock, and Mood Lamp. They’re buddies who collaborate and wake you as a team. The clock’s feet light up, the it opens it’s mouth wide to sound off in one of three different noises to wake you up. It will also move its arms up and down if you don’t get up. It will even play music and do a little dance to the tunes, .so it isn’t completely annoying.

The mood lamp is a bit more calm, with four different brightness settings depending on your mood. It too will dance, and respond to your touch. They sport a very cool retro look, with a modern twist. The pair can even communicate with one another if they’re within 15 feet. The Alarm Clock can get the Lamp to turn on it’s brightest setting. That added with the noise should get you up and make you hate them day after day.

Here’s something for old school Mac fans who need a little geek chic. The kind of geek chic that will throw your back out. Someone over at Instructables converted a 1988 Macintosh SE into a chiropractor’s dream. A chunky, spine dislodging MacPack. Basically you just hollow out a Mac and attach some straps. I’m sure you won’t stand out at all. And I can’t see anyone throwing rocks at you, trying to break the screen…

Nixon Watches has unveiled their latest collection of analog watches, the fashionably and retro R1G1. The analog dial watch features a set of four mechanical hands to keep track of the time and date. Two hands rotate around the middle of the dial, one for seconds and the other for minutes. A pair of gauges that look like speedometers show the current hour and the day of the month. The R1G1 is available now in several different colors from $150-$200.

Here’s Tokyoflash’s newest hard to read and futuristic timepiece for those who love these hard-to-read-watches. With the LCD interface, the time can be read at a glance but it can also be illuminated with sci-fi green LEDs, so that when you touch the button, it resembles a glowing radar screen. It sports a solid stainless steel strap which can be adjusted.

So how do you read this one? The outer ring dots are the minutes, every fifth dot being slightly smaller to distinguish five minutes. The ring of large blocks represents rough minutes, the position of the gap indicating approximate minutes. The inner ring of blocks represents hours, the position of the gap in the ring showing the current hour as on a clock face. It will set you back $154.

With all of the latest tech news we give you day in and day out, sometimes it’s nice to take a look into the past and honor the devices that paved the way for todays gadgets. This analog computer is known as the AKAT-1 and it can solve complex differential equations in real time and without digital logic.

But it’s a victim of time passing by, and now resides in the Museum of Technology, in Warsaw, Poland. You’ll notice it sports a very warm and stunning retro look. It has character. I mean it obviously belongs in a Trek ship, with Spock feeding it data. And yet by many it has been forgotten. We here at the Brick would love to have it in the offices, but our intern would just mess it up. Here’s to you AKAT-1.

Nixie clocks and the like are pretty damn sexy. No question about it. But here’s a clock retro-sexual enough to make even the Nixie clock all hot and bothered. As well as us geeks. It was created by David Forbes, in his Cathode Corner laboratories, and somehow manages to capture the old and the new in a completely unique way, sporting a 3/8-inch acrylic case and a cathode ray tube that tells the time inside.

For $999 you get a display that shows analog style or digital style numbers, with GPS so that you are assured to have the exact time, and knobs on the back. Gorgeous nerd-gasmic knobs to fiddle with. According to Forbes, a limited production version is almost ready for buying. I don’t know about you, but we want one.

This isn’t a gadget of course, but it does involve one of our favorite retro arcade games, Space Invaders. We love Space Invaders here at the ‘Brick and we’re a little jealous of our friends in Japan, where these Kit Kat bars are being produced in limited editions by Nestle for Taito arcades to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Space Invaders.

Putting Space Invaders on a Kit Kat should make it a bit easier to fend off the invading armada as you savor every delicious bite of their little bodies. I’d love to see more retro arcade candy bars hit the market, like a Pac-Man Reese’s cup and the like, but I wouldn’t be able to resist and I’d become a large geek instead of a trim geek.

It doesn’t get more 80′s then this. The Tokidoki company has come up with this nice looking watch that outdoes the turntable watch we told you about many months ago.

It ups the retro pop feel with vibrant colors and a nice 80s style. It makes me feel like cranking some Huey Lewis and the News while messing around on my hoverboard. The vinyl face rotates as each second ticks by. The time is displayed on the left side, looking like a radio dial. Stainless steel with leather strap. My geek mind is convinced that if you wear something this outrageously retro, Doc Brown will show up in his DeLorean. Which is why I’m getting one.

I think there are two things in this universe that you can safely say that geeks love. Atari 2600 and Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Being a geek myself who loves both, this is exactly how I would have made the movie.

With a large Atari joystick as the monolith. This T-shirt is the work of Akron, Ohio illustrator psychoreindeer. Let’s face it, if an ancient civilization is going to search for intelligent life, it’s going to test you on your Atari skills.

Here’s the latest awesome looking, but hard to read Tokyoflash watch. This one is called Galaxy and features a “powerful formation of multi-colored light bars, developed using digital tube technology”. It also has a “custom linked, brushed silver strap”. But here’s what you really want to know. How do you read the time?

Hitting the upper button starts an animation, then it will show you the time. The twelve yellow bars are hours going in a clock wise direction, the red bars are groups of five minutes and the four green bars are single minutes. If you use the lower button it will show you the time immediately. It will cost you about $132 USD. Love em or hate em Tokyoflash is making the world look like Sci-Fi one wrist at a time.

Rotary dial phones seem to be making a comeback, at least in gadgets if not actual phones. First there was the rotary dial app for iPhone. Now we have the Zihotch Retro Phone Watch, which is a pretty unique watch.

So how do you tell what time it is? You need to make a phone call to find out. Just dial 117 and the you’ll get the time from a recorded voice. Dial the wrong number and you get, “We are sorry, the number you have dialed is not in service. Please check and call again.” It can also be used as an alarm. It can be yours for $79.99.
