I hate to break it to the young, but the hourglass didn’t originate with the cursor on your computer screen. It’s been around for centuries as a crude yet fairly reliable way of measuring time. Designer Pavel Balykin is obviously not afraid to use it! In fact, Balykin is hoping it makes a comeback with this very retro timepiece.

It’s called the “Sand+Time” and you might notice the none too subtle digital hour glass screen saver mode. It’s a “screen saver” mode, because the watch doesn’t actually count time for you while this feature is active. It just looks really, really cool and Sci-Fi like. To get the real time, push a button and the numbers will appear. I’m not sure what it would take to get this concept into production, but I want one. It’s what the future is supposed to look like.

Minnesota artist Debra Dresler decided to take a vintage 1950′s Viewmaster and reel and turn it into a clock. The result is an interesting art piece that would look great on any shelf. For those too young to have enjoyed the View Master, an explanation is in order. This old gadget allowed you to look through 2 eye pieces and view slides, which rotated round on a disc. To view the next image you would pull down the lever and the disc rotated to the next image.

The clock hands are in the center of the image reel on this modified viewmaster and it takes just 1 AA battery which will power the clock for several months. But can you use it as a clock AND view reels at a cost of $145? I hope so.

There must be something in the icing air lately. I thought that the R2-D2 cake we showed you last week was the coolest geek cake. But having a special place in my heart for the Atari 2600, I want to dig into this delicious cake made to look like the original Atari console.

What’s next? An NES and SNES cake? I hope so. I’m getting a sugar rush just looking at it in all it’s 8-bit glory. Ironically, the simple Pac-Man decorations along the side are an improvement on how that game looked on this console.

What the hell? A planet where apes evolved from men? Not exactly, but a twist just as mind bending. This is a world where, instead of Pac-Man being chased by ghosts, you control the ghosts as Pac-Man comes after you. That’s the idea behind this new Flash game called “Anti Pac-Man”.

Kind of a squad based version of the old classic. You use the 1 through 4 keys to select and take command of each ghost, then you use the arrow keys to guide them through the maze and avoid the yellow dot eater. Thing is, while Pac-Man is gobbling up dots, your score goes down. By keeping your ghosts alive, you can minimize the damage and keep him from chomping more. Personally I can’t help feeling a bit like Charlton Heston at the end of Planet of the Apes. It’s just unnatural.
