Omega GM-1: Real drum set for Rock Band

Posted in Musical Instruments by Conner Flynn on February 1st, 2010

Sure, there are some mods for using a real drum set with Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but Omega Music Technology’s new GM-1 system is the first off-the-shelf option, which is great if you are DIY challenged. The kit is available on its own or bundled with a Pearl drum set. The system is equipped with individual sensors that detect each and every drum hit with “speed and accuracy”, so it should be pretty reliable.

You won’t have to worry about the neighbors or other members of your family getting annoyed either as there is support for mesh heads and a dampening system for the cymbals. If you go for the actual drum set package, you’ll also get some authentic drum heads. Omega even says that the system is a great way to learn to play the drums.

Zivix Headliner Guitar for Rock Band/Guitar HeroThe problem with Guitar Hero and Rock Band is that people think they can actually play guitar. By people, I mean you. The Zivix Headliner is a real guitar that works with both games using special fingertip sensors. What this means for you?

Well, if you use this you may actually learn to play the guitar for real. Seriously, it has strings and everything, because you’re a big boy now. There’s no official release date for the Headliner yet, but they hope to have the guitar on store shelves sometime later this year.

CNBC says Zune phone is real, codenamed “Pink”It’s a rumor that refuses to die. The Zune phone. We last speculated about it back in July. Now the Zune Phone is looking very likely. A legitimate news organization, CNBC had something to say about it. Jim Goldman says that according a “good source,” Microsoft is “ready to give a major facelift to the company’s Zune music player that could mean its evolution into a new smart phone from the company.” It’s codenamed “Pink” and “will combine the company’s Zune and technology from Microsoft’s purchase of Danger Inc.”

Are you excited? Microsoft has dropped some hints that it wanted to combine Danger’s consumer-friendly OS expertise with the Zune. It makes sense. A ZunePhone made by Danger might be a Microsoft smartphone that is actually worth the wait.

Freshwest creates a literal pool table

Freshwest creates a literal pool tableI say it’s about time somebody called the pool table on it’s BS. It barely qualifies as a table, and it sure isn’t a pool. I know, I sound like Seinfeld, but how about a little trurh in advertising? Really a pool table is a ball table. Well, the design team at Freshwest have created a true literal pool table.

It’s actually a coffee table made with 50mm acrylic that reflects light so that it looks like a shimmering swimming pool. A pool suspended in the air, like somebody dug the ground out from beneath it. The miniature diving board on one end is a nice touch. Obviously, we want it, but who knows if it will ever be available to us regular folk. Then again, that’s gotta be a heavy table. And you’d need inflatable pool toy coasters.

Four cellphones called at the same time, facing popcorn kernels
Is it better to use a speaker phone and hands free devices instead of answering right next to your ear? Are four mobile phones capable of popping some popcorn kernels? Check out the videos below. Just imagine the kind of weapon 12 phones strapped together would be. Nah. It’s a clever fake. But fun to watch.
