St. Louis Aerial Clock Radio is awesomely antique

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on December 16th, 2008

St. Louis Aerial Clock Radio is awesomely antiqueYou have to love these antique designed radios. And it looks all the better for not having an iPod dock. The St Louis Aerial Clock Radio was inspired by airplane cockpit controls of the 1920’s. The radio has toggle switches and a tuning dial that lights up.

Probably the most interesting feature is that it displays the time in 4 separate circular digital windows. It’s constructed of Steel and plastic and will only play AM/FM channels. Not a single input for you MP3 player, which is pretty refreshing. The Aerial Clock Radio retails for £49.95, which is a bargain for this kind of design.

Nokia intros Home Music WiFi radio

Nokia intros Home Music WiFi radioIt’s safe to say that Nokia has been busy. Earlier we had a look at the N97. Now Nokia has dropped the Home Music, the company’s first internet radio. It’s designed for the office or your smart home, as the device features WiFi and Ethernet connectivity, along with typical USB port, aux line-in, analog and digital outputs.

If for some reason you can’t break away from FM, it also features an FM receiver and a 10W speaker. No pricing info yet or shipping date, but we’ll let you know when we hear something.

Mini Cartoon Mouse FM radio

Posted in Radio by Conner Flynn on November 26th, 2008

Mini Cartoon Mouse FM radioI would venture to guess that there’s not many of us looking for a stand-alone radio in the age of iPods. But if you do like carrying around an FM radio, why not make it this cute little cartoon mouse? He’s even got a spring tail, which I assume means that he’s happy to see you. Best of all, he’ll only cost you $6.99, but you’ll need 2 AAA batteries.

Sadly, you can’t even use this mouse as a portable mouse. If I were you I would hurry. Innovation like this won’t stay in stock for long. I haven’t seen such amazing vision in a gadget since the Creative Zen Moo.

NASCAR Helmet with Radio and CD Player

Posted in Radio by Conner Flynn on November 13th, 2008

NASCAR Helmet with Radio and CD PlayerIt’s like somebody decapitated a Nascar robot for your musical enjoyment. While I’m not a big fan of watching cars go around in circles all day myself, while hearing phrases like “y’all” and “get her done” and the like, this makes me actually want to see a robot Nascar driver. There’s just something cool about LED’s under a helmet and a CD tray mouth branded with my favorite home renovation store.

It’s an AM/FM radio and CD player helmet, designed like the one Tony Stewart wears when driving his #20 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing. Comes with a remote control. It would also double as a nice psycho trophy for the unbalanced Nascar fan who hasn’t managed to get close enough to bring home a head of their own for their desk. It will cost you $140 from Wal-Mart. Just where you might expect to get a gem like this.

Elements Stardust Radio with Swarovski bling

Posted in Radio by Conner Flynn on September 17th, 2008

Elements Stardust Radio with Swarovski blingThere’s no shortage of devices sprinkled with Swarovski crystals. Unfortunately, most are so smothered with bling that they just look tacky. The Elements Stardust Radio is actually done up right, with just the right ratio of bling and device. It actually looks nice.

It’s a Sonoro musical player that has been covered with 3,900 Swarovski crystals in a white floral pattern against a background of black crystals. It features 10 preset AM/FM stations, iPod/notebook/PMP compatibility as well as an integrated alarm clock. Hopefully we can close the “Crap me up with Swarovski” chapter on this high note, but somehow I doubt it.

Sony’s ICF-CD3iP iPod/iPhone dock & clock radioSony has created a somewhat original looking and refreshing third-generation iPod/iPhone clock radio dock, the ICF-CD3iP, according to an apparent leak by a Sony Insider. A side dock holds the Apple device. It can play MP3′s, CDs and CD-R/RW audio discs. The iPhone or iPod are integrated with the alarm clock and it comes with a remote so you don’t have to get out of bed to turn it off. Looks like it has nice big numbers as well, for those that need them. The ICF-CD3iP will reportedly be available in October. Price is estimated at $100.

Blue 8GB Zune spotted, new featuresHere’s the first pic of a blue Zune flash player. This one is an 8GB version that was seen posted on Fry’s a little while ago. Despite the color, it doesn’t have a lot to be blue about. Apparently there’s a silver one as well, but no pics of that one. It sports some interesting new features.

Users can access wireless hotspots to update music collections, browse the Zune Marketplace, refresh Channels, exchange favorites, and even buy tagged FM songs. “Channels” are custom stations that will give you personalized playlists. It also has a “Games” feature for what else, games. The “Buy From FM” feature lets you listen to FM radio and tag any songs for purchase when you sync with a PC. Not too shabby.

Darth Vader radio and CD player

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on September 1st, 2008

Darth Vader radio and CD playerOnly Darth Vader could be so evil as to offer up a radio/CD player combo in the age of digital music. Such is the dark side. The crappy sound quality will make you suffer, suffering will lead to hate, hate will lead to anger and anger will lead to fear and before you know it you’re the latest Sith apprentice. Still, there’s always something cool about having Darth Vader’s helmet nearby.

And despite the fact that it plays CDs and offers the radio, it does have the option to connect your MP3 player so I guess it’s not all that bad. It’s got six buttons to control the music plus two apparently hidden inside the mouth for some reason. As an added bonus, when you play a CD you can see it spinning in Vader’s eyes with have red LEDs. Requires 6 x LR14 batteries. The price? $88 Yeah, Vader is evil. Am I gonna pay $88 for a CD player? I think not.

Bluetooth Umbrella concept with touchscreen & radio

Bluetooth Umbrella concept with touchscreen & radio
It’s not easy to do other things while trying to hold onto your umbrella. And what if you don’t have this one handy. Mikhail Stawsky’s Bluetooth Umbrella concept wants to help in that department. Sure it keeps you dry, but this one also sports Bluetooth.

It will let you answer a call and talk into the handle. I’m hoping you won’t have to have it against your ear. A touchscreen display will give you the usual options like answer/divert and volume. It’s also a radio so if you’d like to re-enact Singing In The Rain or some other wetness themed song, go for it as onlookers stop and gape.

solarDAB: world’s first solar-powered DAB radio

solarDAB: world’s first solar-powered DAB radio
The solarDAB is what I would call retro-ugly. Meaning that it reminds me of some of the uglier aspects of yesterday’s gadgets…today. Ugly it may be, but it is the world’s first solar-powered DAB radio, from Roberts. It sports a top-mounted solar panel along with an indicator on the display that shows you the strength of the solar level being absorbed.

With the rechargeable batteries fully sun kissed, you’ll have tunes for an amazing 27 hours. Looks like they have a variety of colors to choose from for $158. Ugly, yes. But 27 hours of music is pretty awesome.
