Tokyoflash radiation level LED watch

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on April 28th, 2011

With the recent disaster in Japan, many radiation detection devices have recently surfaced and here’s another. Though this one is less useful in letting you know if there is radiation in the area or not. It just uses the same theme. Right now it’s still just a concept, but the radiation level LED concept watch looks pretty cool.

The watch face looks amazing. You can tell the time using the colorful bars which light up. There’s also a charging indicator to let you know when it is charging. Cool watch, but some people may not want reminders about radiation every time they look at their watch.

Study finds Wi-Fi radiation bad for trees

Tree-huggers won’t like this news. Results from a preliminary study by DU Delft University, Wageningen University, and other institutions in the Netherlands show that WiFi radiation may be harmful to trees. The study found that WiFi radiation may cause bleeding and fissures in tree bark, which were not caused by any virus or bacteria.

According to their data, 70% of trees in urban spaces are now showing signs of damage compared to just 10% five years ago. Trees located the closest to WiFi radiation exhibited a lead-like shine on the leaves and death of the leaves’ lower and upper epidermises. Radiation from WiFi was also found to inhibit the growth of corn cobs.

San Francisco passes cellphone radiation law

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on June 16th, 2010

We know what happens when a radioactive spider bites you. You become spiderman. But what happens when you get too much cell phone radiation? Nothing good, that’s for sure. And so the people of San Francisco will soon have a new cellphone radiation law to help.

The law requires retailers to post notices on how much radiation is emitted by the cellphones they sell. This is the first law of it’s kind in the United States. The cellphone industry claims that this law could hurt sales and make consumers believe that some phones are safer than others. No one can agree on just how harmful cell radiation is.

While it won’t turn you into the Incredible Hulk or anything, the Sony Ericsson Satio is apparently leaking some serious radiation. The Satio is considered to be the highest emitter of radiation, compared to all of the phones available in the UK.

The levels are about 1.5W/kg of radiation emission, according to an article by Olga Naidenko, which involved the top ten emitters of radiation, from all the phones that are available on the UK market.
