More details on the PlayStation Phone

Posted in PSP Phone by Conner Flynn on October 30th, 2010

We now have more details on the PlayStation Phone. First, it looks like the model is codenamed “Zeus” and it is running Android 2.2, though apparently there are multiple devices out with different versions, at least one having Android 3.0.

Also it looks like there will be an 8GB microSD card slotted, and at least 512MB of internal storage. The handset looks to be about 17mm thick, about the same as the PSPgo. More details should emerge soon.

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on October 15th, 2010

You know how it is. You are playing a game and you get stuck, so you look up the info online and find out how to beat the current boss level. We’ve all been there. Now Sony wants to make things a little easier with the introduction of its new PlayView for Games over in Japan, which is a digital strategy guide service on the PlayStation Network.

The guides are designed for PSP games and can be purchased and downloaded onto a PS3 so that gamers will be able to play the game on their portable console while using the TV for reference. The guide features digital pages that players can zoom in or flip through easily.

Trapped Chilean miners get PSPs

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on August 31st, 2010

If anyone ever needed some entertainment, it is people stuck in a mine. It helps to take your mind off the fact that you are in an enclosed space and trapped there for months. At least for a few moments anyway.

Just in case you have been in a mine of your own, there are 33 miners trapped in a collapsed mine shaft in Chile right now, and they are going to be down there for a long time. Maybe three to four months. Thank god for video games.

Next PSP may have Touch-Controls on back

Posted in PSP by Conner Flynn on August 19th, 2010

The rumor around Gamescom in Cologne, Germany this week, is that select VIPs are getting hands-on with the next PSP, which is said to feature touch-controls on the back of the device for added gameplay input. Sources have told Eurogamer that it’s scheduled to go on sale before 2011 is over.

Other rumors say that the next PSP will contain dual cameras, a touchscreen, a four-cell processor and even embedded 3G connectivity. We can only hope that half of these rumors are true.

Posted in PSP by Conner Flynn on May 13th, 2010

With E3 just around the corner in June, we will know for sure soon. Don’t forget, Sony needs something to compete with Nintendo’s 3DS. Sony’s latest financial results show that they absolutely need a new PSP. How about 14.1million PSP sales in 2008, to 9.9million in 2009?

GameBone turns your iPhone into a PSP

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on March 20th, 2010

When last we checked in with the Gamebone, it looked, well, like a bone. Thankfully the latest version actually looks good, even if it does turn your iPhone into a PSP lookalike, giving it four buttons and a d-pad. The accessory features a 2000mAh battery for extra power, an LED to display charging and capacity, start/select buttons, built-in stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an omni-directional microphone.

We don’t have a release date yet, but you can expect it by the end of the year. 22moo has released developer tools to make games compatible with the accessory.

Turn your PSP into a VU Meter

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on March 7th, 2010

If you think that the PSP is just another gadget whose time has passed, think again. It can still surprise you. This mod turns a PSP into a VU Meter (volume meter). It’s not a mod that most of us have any use for, but it shows the versatility of the PSP and what can be done.

You can check out a video below. It makes for some great effects while playing music. We would all like our PSPs to rock out like that.

Sony ready to take on Apple

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on March 4th, 2010

According to the Wall Street Journal Sony is getting ready to take on Apple this year, with a long-awaited PSP phone and a netbook/eBook reader/PSP hybrid iPad competitor.

There aren’t many details just yet. We know nothing about pricing and specs, but word is that we can expect the PSP phone and the PSPad as soon as this year. The Sony Ericsson PSP phone has actually been in the works since 2007, but has had many delays.

Sony blocks online play on used copies of PSP SOCOM game

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on February 18th, 2010

In case you didn’t know, retail copies of SOCOM US Navy SEALs: Fireteam Bravo 3 come with a code that’s needed to unlock online play for the game. If you buy it used, a new code will be $20. Say what? You bought it used so you could save $20. That isn’t cool.

Well publishers don’t think the used games market is cool. Used games cost them money when you buy it at a discount rather then from them retail. But what can they do? It’s legal to buy and sell used games. They play games with these one-time-use codes in retail packaging that leaves used game buyers without the full experience. That’s what they do. Well, one of the things.

Jill Stuart’s Sweet Limited Package PSP coming in March

Posted in PSP by Conner Flynn on February 2nd, 2010

Don’t know who Jill Stuart is? Not to worry, I didn’t either. Apparently it’s some overpriced fashion brand for the weak of mind. This special PSP will cost you about $232 and hits Japan on March 4. I think I can pretty much bank on the fact that not one of you will actually buy this thing.

It sports a brand name, it’s pink. It’s just another PSP package. They think that women will buy it as long as it’s pink. Otherwise they don’t care what weirdos are interested in this.

Sony axes UMD conversion program

Posted in PSP Go! by Conner Flynn on September 26th, 2009

Sony axes UMD conversion programHere’s some bad news for PSP owners who want to upgrade to the PSP Go when it’s released. Sony has killed the UMD conversion plan. The idea was that PSP owners who had original UMD copies of their games would be entitled to free PSN downloads of the title, so that they can play it on the PSP Go when they upgrade.

But sadly “legal and technical reasons” put the axe on this plan. Which really sucks for PSP owners who have games they absolutely love. It sure doesn’t encourage PSP owners to upgrade and must feel like a slap in the face.
