At last! Already released as a series of bundles in the UK, Sony has announced a November release date for the North American 250GB PlayStation 3 Slim. It goes on sale on November 3rd, just in time to gift to yourself for Christmas.

This unit is the same size and shape as the 120GB PlayStation 3 Slim, it just has slightly over double the hard drive space. interestingly, the system seems to be priced a tad lower than its UK counterparts at $349.99.

Well, we had previously heard that a 250GB version of the PS3 Slim would be showing up and now it looks like those rumors were right. Some pictures of a 250GB PS3 Slim have been spotted at retail.

The 250GB PS3 Slim is listed as “in stock” on Amazon.co.uk, but it’s not arriving until October 6th. But it is for sale at some retail store in Europe apparently right this instant.

Looks like Sony’s PS3 Slim is paying off for the company. Sales of PS3 hardware at “top retailers” jumped 300% for the first week of September compared to the week before the system’s price was cut to $299 for the “slim”.

Yes, people are actually buying the console. This news surely makes the folks at Sony feel all warm and tingly, but that’s not it for good news. According to a survey by GamePlan Insights, five of consumers’ top 10 most-wanted games are actually on the PS3 (Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII, God of War III, Assassin’s Creed 2, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2).

If you’ve been putting off that pre-order for the new PS3 Slim, you might want to get moving on it. Amazon US has warned of shortages for the new slim PlayStation 3 when the system launches next month. It’s limiting Slim sales to just one per person per household.

It’s five-Slims-per-person in the UK, which doesn’t seem fair to us. Sony in Europe isn’t worried, since it has “trucks and trailers” of the new console already on the road . Are they taking a page from the Wii playbook and spiking demand? We’re not sure. All we know is that you best get your order in.

You know that Sony loves those bundle packs. Well, it looks Gundam will be the first franchise bundle to hit the PS3 Slim. The Japanese only box will include Kidou Senshi Gundam Senki and the pack also includes product codes for FA-78-3 Full Armor Gundam and RX-81AS Assault Armor DLC packs, and an original HD animated Gundam film.

It will be available on September 3rd with the PS3 Slim, priced at 38, 359 Yen, which is 50 Yen less than the cost of the console and game separately. Yeah, if you did the math, that’s only about 53 cents. Thanks Sony.

Those rumors of a price cut coming from Sony on the PS3 have been swirling for months. There have even been lots of game developers that have pressed Sony to cut the price of tits console but Sony has kept insisting no price cuts were coming.

Sony is expected to make a big announcement at Gamescon today. The expectation is that the PS3 Slim will be unveiled and the PS3 will get a price cut. Kmart has jumped the gun, placed the PS3 slim up for preorder, and has run an ad that talks about the new lower price PS3.

News on the PS3 slim has been scarce since E3, but today’s rumor is that Sony has signed manufacturing agreements with both Foxconn and Pegatron to build the slimmed down console in time for a July delivery. That seems reasonable and lines up with stuff we’ve heard.

The crazy part of the rumor is the suggestion that the slim will be the last PS3 model of this generation, and that a next-gen console based on Sony’s motion controller is hitting in spring 2010. That part we aren’t buying. The PS3 is only now in its prime and Sony already said that the motion controller was for the existing console.

Ars Technica has a “very well-informed mole” that says that the rumored flash-based PSP Go! will be announced at E3. Then, later it will be sold right alongside the current model. As for the PS3 Slim, it’s real. And slim. But we don’t expect an announcement next week. We aren’t sure when.
