There are lots of uses for projectors from home entertainment to business and class room use. Different projectors have different uses and prices can go from the low $600 range up to tens of thousands of dollars.

NEC has announced a pair of reasonably price projectors aimed at the business and education installation markets. The projectors are the NP905 and NP901W with 3000 lumens and 2000 lumens respectively of brightness. Both projectors also use Windows Network Projector functionality from Windows Vista.

How often have you wished you could bathe in the stars? You know, just lay back and cruise the cosmos in a tub full of hot water. What could be more relaxing? The bathtub planetarium sphere from Sega Toys let’s you do just that.

Just dim or turn out the lights and stars are projected everywhere. It will even project underwater scenes, even roses all over you and the room. There are as many different uses for a projector as there are projectors on the market. From really big screen gaming to multimedia presentations projectors are good for work and play. Canon has announced a new hella expensive projector it claims to be the world’s first WUXGA LCOS projector.

The REALiS WUX10 has a resolution of 1920 x 1200, normally that resolution is seen only on 24-inch LCDs. Canon says the projector delivers the highest resolution of any of its projectors. The LCOS panel used in the WUX10 is only 0.71-inches making it the world’s smallest LCOS panel to achieve 1920 x 1200 resolution.

Though it likely won’t hold the title for long, Earth Trek has christened their new 90-805R projector the “world’s smallest”. It measures roughly 4 inches X 2 inches.

The device will give you a 22-inch diagonal image, though I have no idea from what distance. It sports an SD card slot and a 3.5 mm jack A/V input, built-in lithium battery good for 1-2 hours, MP4 player and built-in speaker. Nothing on price or a date yet, but expect it very soon. Not much else to see here, move along.

I always knew that the crystal skulls were powerful, but I had no idea that they were projectors. Actually. this far inferior replica looks like it had stitches and has had it’s skull elongated in back. Looks like lucite. Not nearly as attractive as the skulls Indy hunts for. But you have to do what you can when Indy merchandise is few and far between, compared to Star Wars merchandise.

Still, somebody in quality control should have put a stop to this cheesy thing. It comes with a set of slides featuring famous archaeological sites and scenes from the Indiana Jones films that can be projected on a wall when inserted into the Skull. You can pre-order it now for $39.99, and it’s expected to ship in October.

JVC just rolled out their 1.75″ 8K4K D-ILA (Direct-Drive Image Light Amplifier) which is capable of outputting 17x full, 1080p high definition from a projector.

That’s the equivalent of a 35-megapixel image at a stunning 8,192 x 4,320 resolution. JVC managed to increase the ratio of area per pixel by 50% over its predecessor’s 4,096 x 2,400 LCD panel that was developed in June last year. That’s pretty damn impressive. I guess JVC now holds the title of World’s first real Super Hi-Vision definition device. The commercial release is set for sometime in January next year. It will likely be expensive, but you never know.

I love new concepts, but this one may be looking a bit too far into the future. The Tea Cup PC Concept contains a holographic projector that projects holographic images around the inside of your cup.

If for some reason you want to share information with another user of the magic Tea Cup, you just pour it in to the other cup. If a group of people want to see information, just spill the contents of the cup out on the work surface. Yes, it’s crazy. Even insane. Frankly, it’s more magic then anything at this point. All I can really say is that I don’t want to use this…ever.

Projectors can be used for all sorts of things from projecting that boring PowerPoint project at the office to playing some Warcraft with a 100-inches of gaming glory on your living room wall. The catch is that often projectors are bulky devices that cost a lot of money.

Sanyo introduced a new projector today that it claims to be the industries smallest and lightest XGA LCD projector. The PLC-XW60 has a resolution of 1024 x 768 and weighs only 3.6 pounds. It’s not only light, but it is physically small as well with dimensions of 10.4 x 2.17 x 7.40 inches (WxHxD).

Here’s a perfect addition to your already batman heavy themed home or cubicle. When Commissioner Gordon tries to call you with the red phone and you aren’t home or in your Bat cave, this ought to get your attention.

All anyone needing the services of their friendly neighborhood bat need do is flip the switch, and this desktop device will project a Bat-Signal an impressive 16 feet! Batman will likely not show up. But prepare to lure nerds in from everywhere heeding the call and thinking there’s a Comic Con nearby.

Shkinder Maxim’s Transformer concept phone is pretty amazing and amazingly versatile. This thing is a cell phone of course, but can also double as a photo/video camera, multimedia player, projector, and it supports holographic imaging and 3D scanning. It’s a shame it isn’t available here and now, but that won’t stop us from drooling.

Among it’s other outstanding features are several independent swiveling and flipping displays, which let you switch from one function to another with ease. This will be an instant hit whenever it comes out in the future.(We hope) The holographic aspect alone will make it easy for a dark Jedi to keep in touch with his Sith overlords.

Star Wars fans can finally pre-order this highly anticipated R2-D2 Video Projector. The 1/2 scale repro will be a limited edition, with only 4000 units of the DVD reader projector being made. The droid is also iPod compatible, users can play the files on their players or connect the projector to a game console using an integrated dock. It even comes with a Millennium Falcon remote control which seems kind of weird.

The R2 Video Projector will retail for 2799 euros. If you have that kind of dough, you better beat a path through the sand and beat the Jawa Sandcrawlers that are sure to be hunting these out.

Cineversum’s BlackWing Three projectors look like they belong in the Batcave theater. Some features are: 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 900 ANSI lumens brightness, 30,000:1 contrast ratio and Two HDMI 1.3 inputs.

You can also upgrade it to the BlackWing Three Pro, which will give you a new Master Three video processor, an added two HDMI 1.3 inputs, and an SD-SDI input and 12V triggers board. Just be prepared to pay for it. It retails upwards of $16,000.

Like golf? Want a simulator that absolutely kicks ass? Got $55,000? Well, to quote Meatloaf, “Two out of three ain’t bad”. But if you do have 55 grand to burn, you might want to pick up this golf simulator called Full Swing Golf. Oh, you’ll also need a spare 20 x 13 x 10.5 foot room to park it in.

Once you’ve overcome those hurdles, you can practice your golfing skills from the comfort of your own home. The huge screen is actually powered by a windows based PC which will let you play on golf courses from around the world at the touch of a button. The picture is projected on the large screen and you basically hit balls onto it. Toshiba announced today what it is calling an “affordable” widescreen 3LCD mobile projector. The Toshiba TLP-WX2200U is priced at around $1,000 and is available for your home theatre or board room needs now.

The Toshiba TLP-WX2200U uses 3LCD technology to provide what is described as better quality color reproduction. It sports 2,200 ANSI lumens, widescreen WXGA 1200×800 native resolution, a 600:1 contrast ratio and a removable palm-sized control panel with a password for theft protection.
