Powerline networking is a great way to get Internet connectivity to gear in your home that can’t access Wi-Fi and is too far from your router. Typical powerline networking systems are only capable of speeds around 200MB/sec.

Belkin has announced a new line of powerline networking gear that is five times as fast as those typical offerings with up to 1000Mbps of speed. The kit is called the Gigabit Powerline HD Started Kit and includes two adapters, one to connect to your router, and one to connect to your device.

If you aren’t a big fan of wireless networking but lack the internal wiring for Ethernet, powerline networking is considered by some the way to go. Belkin is debuting some new products in this category, topping its offerings out with the Belkin Powerline AV+, priced at around $180.

The idea behind powerline networking is to use the electrical wiring in your home to serve as quasi-networking cable. The Belkin Powerline AV+ includes a three-port adapter to support multiple devices, such as A/V equipment or a gaming console, and a one-port adapter to connect to a router.

Actiontec Electronics recently unveiled a new home networking gaming kit designed to be used through electrical wiring in the home. It is called the MegaPlug AV Powerline Gaming Kit and it prices at around $170.

The Actiontec MegaPlug AV Powerline Gaming Kit makes uses of the HomePlug AV powerline standard to transmit computer networking signals through electrical wiring. Two special adapters plug into wall outlets, with one connecting to a PC, Xbox, Playstation, Wii, or other gaming console and the other connecting to a broadband access point.
