Virtual personal trainer texts obese kidsResearchers from the University of Southern California want to use cellphones to help the obese shed weight. The idea is to hook up obese kids to a “mobile body network,” consisting of a device to measure the skin’s electrical conductivity along with a heart-rate monitor, accelerometer, blood glucose reader and GPS for location, and connecting it with a battery sensor on the child’s body.

The system uses a Smartphone to send the collected behavioral data to the university’s computers, where it is then figures out what the information means. If your kid is laying around, text messages will be shot his way to get him to do get off his ass and do something.

Nintendo Personal Trainer: Walking headed for U.S.Fitness-oriented games continue to hit Nintendo’s systems and it doesn’t look like it will slow down anytime soon. Now Nintendo is launching their Personal Trainer: Walking game in the U.S. soon for both the DS and the DSi.

The game comes with two pedometers that automatically sync with your gaming system wirelessly. The game can keep track of all the steps you take, no matter where you are. So you can play the game, even when you don’t have the game near you.

Personal Trainer: Walking for Nintendo DSiThe Nintendo DSi just launched and already we can show you some hardware to buy for the new handheld. The folks over at Joystiq sat down with David Young, the assistant PR manager for Nintendo of America. Mr. Young said that DSi interaction with the Wii was “certainly a possibility,” but he didn’t say anything else on the matter.

He did let one thing out of the bag though. That the DSi will soon be interacting with some new peripherals in the form of a pair of pedometers that will ship with the Personal Trainer: Walking title. Apparently the devices connect wirelessly with the console. The game will be the first title where you can import a Mii character from the Wii. You can even attach one of the pedometers to your dog if you like, to gauge it’s exercise habits/needs.
