Shuttle drops J1 4100G SFF gaming PC

Posted in Shuttle by Shane McGlaun on April 2nd, 2010

Small form factor computers are very cool. They take up less space than the average computer and look cool to boot. The downside is that the small dimensions often mean you can’t get high-end components into the device.

Shuttle has a new SFF computer that debuted in Europe a while back that has now made its way to the US. The machine is the J1 4100G and for a limited time you can get a free CPU upgrade, free video game, and a free gaming mouse.

Pegatron shows off Tegra 2 HTPC

Posted in Home Theater by Conner Flynn on March 25th, 2010

Behold this fresh Pegatron home theater PC powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset. The exterior suggests the glory days of Atari, which we like. There aren’t many details to be had, but we can tell you that this Pegatron HTPC includes HDMI, Ethernet, and microphone and speaker plugs in back.

It should handle 1080p and Flash video easily, running on either Android or Windows CE. No info on price or availability yet, but we’re thinking it has to be $100-$150.

Steampunk PC is cool and not my style

Posted in Computers,Concepts by Shane McGlaun on March 19th, 2010

I like Steampunk stuff mostly because the things look cool and I can appreciate how long it would take to build some of these designs. That said you would never find steampunk gear in my house. I like my tech to look like tech, not something I might find in grandma’s attic.

A new steampunk computer with some serious attention to detail has turned up over on Yanko Design. The thing is the complete deal with a cool looking tower thingy that might be a speaker, a keyboard, mouse pad, mouse, and a display. The keyboard is my favorite part.

Commodore name licensed for a line of keyboard PCs

Posted in Keyboards by Conner Flynn on March 18th, 2010

We remember the good old days of computing. The old Commodore of the 1980s brings back some good if graphically challenged memories. Barry Altman, President and CEO of Commodore USA, now has the rights to the Commodore name. And now, if we are lucky we can have a keyboard computer with the Commodore logo slapped on it.

Apparently it’s based on the Cybernet ZPC-GX31, the exact configurations and pricing are not available yet, but hopefully soon.

Astro A30 Headset for your PC, consoles and phone

Posted in Headphones by Conner Flynn on March 16th, 2010

The Astro A40 headset is designed for professional gamers and costs $250. The A30′s will only cost you $149, which is still way too expensive for a pair of gaming headphones, but closer to what we can all afford. The A30 has features like a detachable mic so you can use them as normal headphones after your gaming.

But it doesn’t ditch the amp and cords setup that made using the A40′s with the Xbox such a chore. Maybe that doesn’t bother you and if so, these look like they’re worth checking out if you have the scratch.

Lian Li’s PC-T1R Spider case

Posted in Computer Cases by Conner Flynn on March 13th, 2010

Computer cases that look like spiders aren’t something you generally see at your local Best Buy or anywhere else, where they are available to the public for that matter. However Lian Li’s new PC-T1R case is the exception to the rule. Not that it will be at Best Buy, but you can get it soon.

Now it is closer to release. Previously only seen in a teaser video, the folks at techPowerUp have now gotten their hands on one. The case should sell for “around €150″ (about $200) when released and it will be available in black and red, with some assembly required.

Toshiba plans home tablets for late 2010

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2010

Toshiba wants a slice of the tablet market just like everybody else, so it will be rolling out its own line of tablets to compete with the iPad. The company thinks the line will arrive sometime later this year, or early 2011 if that doesn’t work out.

Toshiba isn’t entirely new to the tablet market. They had previously rolled out the Journe Touch in Europe last year. No word on what OS Toshiba’s new tablets will run, but our guess would be windows. It’s also way too early to talk price.
