Viewsonic unveils thin 35mm All-In-One PCViewSonic’s latest offering is a sweet looking super-thin all in one computer. One that is only 35mm thick. For comparison, that’s a little thinner than the iMac. Inside you’ll find an Atom 1.6Ghz CPU, a DVD RW drive, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard disk. The screen is a 19 incher.

It will ship with Windows XP Home and features WIFI and Ethernet of course. How about 4 USB 2.0 ports and a 4-in-1 card reader? Looks like a good one to help you save some space in your home.

Yellow Bulldozer PC case mod

Yellow Bulldozer PC case modHere’s a cool PC case mod from Russian moder, Megalex, known as the Yellow Bulldozer PC. He must be a fan of construction vehicles. Megalex built the custom case around an Asus P3B-F motherboard, an Intel PIII 700MHz processor, 512MB of Ram, and a 500GB Seagate hard drive.

Looks like parts of it actually move. Pretty awesome. If he can make a few more that are rc controlled, he can use them to demolish things around the house. Or make them fight. Either way, it’s a win.

HP is world’s top PC shipper

Posted in Computers by Shane McGlaun on April 16th, 2009

hp-logo-sb1With the poor global economy, it’s no surprise that computer sales are slipping around the globe. The only segment of the computer industry that is actually growing robustly is the netbook category as consumers look to lower cost devices.

Gartner Research announced its global PC shipment numbers for Q1 2009 today and HP sits at the top of the list. HP shipped 19.8% of the all PCs shipped globally. Total global PC shipments for the quarter were 67.2 million units.

Lenovo and Acer prepping All-In-One PCs

Lenovo and Acer prepping All-In-One PCsLenovo and Acer are putting both feet into the all-in-one PC market, not just dipping their toes in. Lenovo wants to release its 20″ C100 entry level unit next month followed by the C100 and Quad Core B500 in August as well as the slim A300 a few months after that.

Acer wants some of that sweet market too, so they will be releasing an 18.5″ model by Wistron. Whenever they arrive, look for them to be under $888. At least that’s what they’re shooting for.

Laptop Hunters: Homeless Frank

Posted in Humor by Conner Flynn on April 14th, 2009

This is an interesting take on the whole Laptop Hunters campaign. It’s the usual setup. But in this case they get a homeless man to go shop for a PC. Of course homeless Frank ends up with a PC. It’s not like you can get a Mac for the price.

Frank complains about the cheap plastic on the laptops and at one point says that he’s “poor, not retarded.” Guess he’s not a PC fan. This one should make all the Mac fanboys feel all warm and fuzzy I guess.

Ctrl-Alt-Del pillows for a style reboot

Ctrl-Alt-Del pillows for a style rebootThe Mac fanboys have their Mac-O-Lantern pillows. Your laptop has the Log pillow. These pillows can be just for you.

They’ll give you a style reboot just by being there. But be careful. Leaning on all three at once will warp time and space, changing the reality around you. Might be a good idea to have a task manager blanket handy.

Another Microsoft Laptop Hunters commercial

Posted in Microsoft by Conner Flynn on April 5th, 2009

Remember Lauren the actress from the first Laptop Hunters commercial? Well, she’s got her PC and is probably happily using it while a new guy by the name of Giampaulo goes shopping. If you thought the first ad hit the nail on the head and lit a fire, Giampaulo doesn’t mince words.

He calls himself “technically-savvy” and thinks that the unibody MacBook he looks at is “so sexy,” but ultimately he rejects it because he wants to pay for “computing power,” not the “brand.” Sound familiar? Many people feel that way.

New Microsoft ad cuts to the heart of the issue

Video: Laptop Hunters $1000 – Lauren Gets an HP Pavilion
The ongoing war between Microsoft & Apple continues. In this new ad, Microsoft exploits Apple’s Achilles heel, being outrageously overpriced. It’s a brilliant ad that hits them right where it hurts. Because it’s true.

The ad shows a customer looking for a laptop for under a $1000. She searches both the Apple store and a conventional electronics store and finally settles on an HP laptop for under $700. Unlike their previous ads, this one works because it actually speaks to the consumer, and what matters to them. Getting a decent computer for a fair price.

OnLive hands on with Gizmodo

onlive-sbGaming is a big business in the US and abroad in not only hardware sales, but also the games themselves can be huge moneymakers. Top-flight titles like Halo have outsold blockbuster movies and games continue to make big money even in the current economy.

The cloud-based OnLive gaming service was mentioned here this week and yesterday the guys from Gizmodo went hands on with the PC OnLive system playing Bioshock. Anyone who has seen Bioshock on the PC knows that the game is very graphically demanding.

Voice-controlled Asus Eee PCs this year

Posted in ASUS by Conner Flynn on March 24th, 2009

ASUS Eee Top available for pre-order on AmazonSeems like all of the big companies are focusing on voice. There’s the iPod shuffle of course, the iLane that reads email etc. It’s like they all started watching Knight Rider and fell in love with the idea of gadgets talking as well as users talking to their gadgets. In the end we may all want our gadgets and ourselves to STFU, but for now there’s a lot of jibber-jabber going on.

Add Asus to the list of those who want voice recognition devices. They want “an end to the keyboard.” And so a bunch of Eee products will soon be introduced with voice recognition capabilities later this year.
