Zen PC concept: Be one with the PC

Zen PC Concept
Zen is all about being calm with your surroundings, grasshopper. When you look at your PC, do you feel stressed? Of course you do, work, work, work. They call this the sandbox PC, and it should help to alleviate such things and put you in a calm state of mind. Users can use it without even looking at it, because it operates using an active surface which changes texture depending on the area or function you choose.

This would be particularly good for the blind or visually impaired. We are used to visual inputs, they are not. It’s quite a learning curve for those of us with sight, but I don’t think we will be seeing it anytime soon anyway. I hope I’m wrong however, because this would be great for a great tool for those who can not see.

Microsoft PC concept attaches to your neck

The Momenta PC
This is a finalist in Microsoft’s Next-Gen PC Design Competition, called The Momenta PC, that you strap to your neck. It begins it’s symbiotic relationship with you by recording snippets of your whole life in an active buffer. When your heart rate goes up, it records whatever it is that’s making you excited until you tell it to stop, so you can view it later.

The idea is that it would capture the most exciting moments of your life. You know, the ones you always wish you had your camera ready for. But yes, it is creepy. Sure it would remember all of the fun times, but what about the horrible? Thanks for the memories, now please stop your parasitic relationship with my neck.

Onkyo APX-2 HD audio PC
If you like your PC to look like retro audio gear you’ll want to check out the Onkyo APX-2 HD audio PC. Onkyo and SOTEC, the Japanese PC manufacturer partnered up on the new APX-2 HD audio PC.

It comes with a Core 2 Duo T5500 @ 1.66GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 500GB of HDD, a digital audio amplifier, an HDD that is stored in a Super Floating HDD Unit, and a noise cancellation box (22dB max) as well as Vista’s volume mixer function and installed Pure Direct Audio Path (PDAP) to prevent audio loss from poor HD audio support. Onkyo worked hard to ensure the APX-2 is as silent as possible. If it sounds as beautiful as it looks, then I’m game.

Coffee mug displays your feeds, plays clips

The future of morning coffee
Having a smart coffee mug in the morning would certainly make life a whole lot sweeter. Imagine a mug that could have your stock quotes scrolling across it’s surface, or display a newscast right before your eyes as you pour your coffee in. It seems like Science Fiction, even now, but the day may not be that far off. This concept of a Yuno coffee mug PC boldly steers your morning ritual in that direction.

Computer chips are getting smaller and smaller, it’s not a quantum leap to envision a mug equipped with a touch-screen that would let you wake up away from the PC. It would let you display your own images as a screensaver or play a slide show while you’re taking your coffee break. The idea would be to have a complete PC on the mug.

Evergreen’s gamepad & computer mouse in one

Gamepad & computer mouse in one
This gamepad mouse from Evergreen might be the coolest mouse we’ve seen yet. It’s called The Genius Navigator and hidden inside, you will find a gamepad featuring six buttons, plus Turbo and Clear buttons, and a directional pad.

The 1600/800dpi USB laser mouse weighs 67 grams and is compatible with Windows Vista, XP and 2000. The Genius Navigator will cost you about about $33 USD. I suspect that both the gamepad and mouse don’t work all that well together, but like Peanut butter and chocolate, I do think it’s awesome that they put them together. I’d like to see them take it one step further and put a Nintendo DS in a mouse. That I would buy. Who am I kidding? I would buy this one, too.

The Navisurfer II also has all of the software applications that you would want in your car, like media player, GPS navigator, rear view camera, plus an application for displaying vehicle diagnostic information.

The Darwin controller is some Wii competition

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on February 4th, 2008

The Darwin controller is some Wii competitionWant to get in on some of that Wii action, with a controller just as intuitive, but still can’t find a Wii? Maybe it’s just time for motion-controlled games on a different platform. Darwin’s new Motus controller will work with other systems. Not the Wii. Mainly the PS3 and your computer. The Darwin contains gyroscopes and accelerometers to sense its location and it’s said to be more accurate in tracking motion than is Wii’s infrared.

It’s fairly neat looking and it’s meant to be held like a Samurai sword, which should make for excellent slicing and dicing action. Not to mention golf. The Darwin should be available by the 2008 holiday season. The price will be between $79 and $99. No word yet on what games it will work with, new or old.

Sony VAIO VGX-TP1 Media Center PCAt first glance you might think the new Sony VAIO VGX-TP1 is a new product from Apple with the white color and unusual shape, but Sony has taken a new direction in desktop design with this cylinder shaped design.

The Sony VAIO TP1 comes running Windows Vista and an HDMI port to run a display on your big flat-screen TV. It also ships with a wireless keyboard, memory card slot and a DVD burner built-in. Not to mention that this has all the amenities of a normal desktop PC, all packed into a space-conscious design.
