LG to reveal 31-inch OLED panel

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on August 19th, 2010

LG is already the record holder for the largest production OLED model, but they aren’t content with it so next month, they will break their own record and double that size to 31-inches, showing it off on the showfloor of the IFA electronics show in Germany.

Samsung showed off a 31-inch OLED of their own a few years ago, but that one never made it to the market, so if LG’s does, they are the king of OLED panels.

Toshiba LCD panel does 2D and 3D images at the same time

Posted in Toshiba by Conner Flynn on June 4th, 2010

Toshiba has an LCD panel which is capable of converting a 2D image partially to a 3D image, where it can then be viewed with the naked eye without the need for an extra pair of special glasses. This LCD panel is compatible with the “integral imaging method” developed by Toshiba and boasts nine viewpoints within a 12″ display at 1,400 x 1,050 resolution for 2D images in full screen and 466 x 350 for 3D images in full screen.

The 3D images are made possible thanks to the “GRIN (gradient index) lens” that changes the distribution of refraction indexes by controlling the gradient of liquid crystal molecules. Turning on the second panel allows You to show 2D images and 3D images simultaneously.

Toshiba releases OCB-type LCD panel for stereoscopic 3D glasses

Stereoscopic 3D technology has been around for a long time and it has come a long way. Toshiba has introduced a new OCB (Optically Compensated Bend) LCD panel that works in time-based type 3D glasses.

In those glasses it will facilitate high-speed shutter opening and closing, which minimizes eye fatigue caused by “3D crosstalk”, a phenomena that happens when the right image is sensed by the left eye and vice versa, causing double vision. It also means better image quality and a wide viewing angle.

VIA VIPRO fanless touch screen panel PCs

The new VIA VIPRO range of fanless touch screen panel PCs look pretty bulky and not very sexy at all, but come equipped with a 6.5″ VIA VIPRO VP7806, and if that’s too small, there’s the 15″ VIA VIPRO VP7815.

These are made using the flexible and modular Em-ITX form factor, and could be the perfect solution for the latest HMI applications. Both VIA VIPRO devices are fan-less and pretty tough, with IP65 compliant LED backlit panels which are capable of working in extreme temperatures from -200C to 600C.

LG announces world’s thinnest 42-inch LCD panel

How thin can LCD panels get? It’s never enough for LG who is getting ready for CES 2010, where they intend to show off the new “worlds thinnest” LCD TV panel.

LG has announced a new 42-inch 1080p panel that’s only 2.6mm (or .1 inch) thin. The prototype LED-backlit 120Hz display is light as well at just under 8.8 pounds. Sadly we don’t have any other specs on it yet, but we will learn more when CES kicks off in Vegas very soon.

Epson producing world’s smallest LCD panel

Epson producing world's smallest LCD panelEpson is claiming another first with this world’s smallest LCD panel and they’ve started volume production of these tiny guys. The XGA HTPS-TFT Liquid Crystal Panel was specially designed for 3LCD data projectors and are up to 23% smaller in size than its predecessor, using a 0.55″ display panel.

The tiny panel can display a natural XGA (1,024 x 768) resolution, targeting projectors which can display up to 2600 ANSI lumens. Epson isn’t resting easy with this achievement though. They even have plans to push the envelope to create higher resolutions for the panels.

Weird backdrop shower panel nozzle, buddy, things

Weird backdrop shower panel nozzle, buddy, thingsIs it just me or would anyone be a little weirded out by these shower companion things? One looks like a pink female body which isn’t too bad, but the next one in line is kinda bowing down like he’s gonna finish you off. The strange blue blob starfish thing makes me want to get out of the shower real quick and so does the Panda. I would just like to shower in peace thank you.

The panels are created by an Italian company called Colacril and they will add a splash of…something to your decor. Maybe fear or paranoia. I don’t see much showertime fun here. The last thing I need while taking a shower is some Panda staring at me as if my man parts are bamboo. I’m old fashioned that way.
