Posted in Home Theater by Conner Flynn on July 11th, 2010

Both come with four 3D-ready HDMI 1.4a inputs and handle upscaling to 1080p via the Faroudja DCDi Cinema processor. The difference comes down to the HT-7300 swapping the front speakers for a pair of 41-inch tall floor-standing speakers with dual woofers.

Onkyo Miffy Netbook

Posted in Netbook by Conner Flynn on July 11th, 2010

Miffy is a small Dutch rabbit famous for appearing in picture books. Now Onkyo has plastered her likeness on some C4 units to catch your little girl’s eye. It doesn’t sport very thrilling hardware. A 1.6GHz Atom CPU, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, etc.

But fear not, the lid is covered with character faces. Its version of Windows 7 or XP has Miffy-themed apps and wallpaper on the desktop. Nothing on price yet, but it’s Japan-only as it’s too cute for our shores.

Onkyo MHP-UW2 iPod wireless headphones

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on October 9th, 2008

Onkyo MHP-UW2 iPod wireless headphonesHow great was the advent of wireless? Wires suck. Wires trip people, electrocute, strangle unsuspecting users and just generally get in the way. Headphones wires are no exception. The Onkyo MHP-UW2 Bluetooth headphones come with an emitter that attaches to your iPod and broadcasts music for up to 8 hours on a full battery.

Recharging takes 3 hours via conventional AC adaptor or USB. The headphones look pretty cool, but the problem here is the emitter. It’s huge and fugly and kind of offensive, like a ball and chain. Not really wireless. You didn’t buy a small iPod just to make it huge later, now did ya?. In fact, it kinda looks like a pogo stick for your iPod. The price is $200.

Features wise, the only main difference between these two new A/V receivers seems to be that on the TX-NR906 there are “advanced networked audio capabilities.” Key features otherwise include HDMI repeaters for four high definition video sources, THX Loudness Plus processing, Audyssey’s new Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume technologies, HQV Reon-VX video upscaling to 1080p, multi-room support and HD Radio.
