DIY SpokePOV lights up your bike, shows support for Obama

DIY SpokePOV lights up your bike, shows support for ObamaIt used to be that all you could do with your bike spokes was insert a baseball card or sport a generic reflector. My favorite was always the aluminum can on the back tire. But I digress. Now it’s all about LEDs. This moving endorsement of Obama comes from a Flickr user that used six SpokePOV kits to turn his bike wheel into an awesome, illuminated Obama sign. Now he can campaign for his candidate just by riding his bike. If you want to make your own, all of the .dat files necessary to reproduce the effect are available on Aneel’s Flickr site. You can customize it to endorse whichever candidate you want. Pretty neat.

Obama rocks the iPhone

Obama rocks the iPhoneThe Vice Presidential debate this evening will take place in about a half hour. Earlier Obama for America announced the release of Obama ‘08: The Official Application for iPhone and iPod touch. Much like the USB bracelet we told you about, it’s another way to connect with the candidate. The app is free and is available for download now. The app makes it easier for Obama volunteers to get involved by making calls on the candidate’s behalf.

You’ll also get news updates, news coverage, local events, media from the campaign trail, and of course Obama’s and Biden’s stance on “essential issues facing Americans.” I’m interested to see what kind of affect this has on election results as I don’t see anything like this coming from McCain’s camp. It makes it clear that the youth/tech savvy vote is Obama’s. And he’s making it easy for them to get more involved. McCain may take credit for the Blackberry, but good luck getting an email from him anytime soon. I’m pretty sure his phone still has a rotary dial.

Obama supporters get USB bracelets

Obama supporters get USB braceletsOut of the two presidential candidates, which is more likely to be hip and use tech to his advantage? Well, the young hip guy apparently. If you are an Obama supporter and want to show the world who your choice for president is, you’ll want the Obama 08 bracelet. The bracelet is the stretchy plastic kind that you’ve seen used for different causes, but this one has a USB plug and video, music, photos, speeches and more stored on it’s flash drive inside the bracelet.

It’s compatible with Mac and Windows PCs and is available for $25. The proceeds go into funding the Obama presidential campaign. Promo video below. In the interest of giving both candidates equal time, I was going to mention something interesting that McCain did with technology. I just can’t think of any.

Vote for the ‘Brick in 2008Looks like the folks over at Electronics Weekly have launched a search for the best Electronics blogs, with their first ever Electronics Blog Awards and they were kind enough to mention us by name. Now normally we don’t pay much attention to politics. For instance we won’t ask you to Rock The Vote, and we don’t care if you vote for the young hip guy whose face adorns the DS above or the old guy trying so hard to be hip with his corded phone. But when it comes to tech and assorted geekery, we want your vote.

So if you’re a fan of the ‘Brick just hit the link below and follow the instructions to get us nominated. We can’t say we stand for change and we have no Moose-shooting VP, we just really really love gadgets!

11 cool Nintendo DS mods

Obama DS Lite
While we’re waiting with bated breath for a possible new updated Nintendo DS model that has been rumored, we thought we would take a look at some of our favorite DS mods. Like the Wii, modders love to spice up Nintendo’s boring design and put their own personal touches on the device. Some are weird, some are awesome, some will make you wonder what’s in the modder’s local water supply, but all are creative.

EMobile’s Japanese ad compares Obama with a monkey?

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on June 24th, 2008

The Japanese have done a ton of wacky things they should be ashamed of gadget-wise and otherwise. Now they’re getting into politics to sell phones and the result is bizarre. This commercial for Japan’s EMobile cellular company has a monkey dressed up in a suit, at a podium in front of a crowd.

The crowd is holding signs that read “Change.” At the end, the monkey cries a tear, clearly ashamed as he should be. Bad monkey. Their intentions may or may not have been entirely innocent, but we all know that if this aired in America there would be hell to pay.
