Intel drops some official news on the 2go PC

Intel 2go PCWe’ve finally run across some solid-looking information about that highly-rumored portable notebook coming from Intel. The small education-targeted computer will be named 2go PC and comes with a very decent set of features including an Intel Celeron M processor and 512 MB of memory (upgradable to 1GB).

If you look close you can make out the details in the spec sheet after the jump, but to save you some eye strain some of the notable features include overall dimensions of 8.7″x7.3″x1.5″, a 9″ LCD (840×480), 40GB 4200RPM HDD, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, a SDMMC memory card reader, integrated 30fps camera and it runs Windows XP and has support for Linux.

ASUS puts XP on Eee PC

eeepc-windows.jpgASUS this week slapped Windows XP officially as a pre-install onto its Eee PC product. The company also incorporated Windows Live and Microsoft Works features.

With the addition of Windows XP, ASUS said, users will have a “fuss-free” platform and a “dependable” operating environment – sure, ok (blue screen of death). Works will offer, of course, your typical word processing and spreadsheet programs, while Windows Live brings to the table online email, instant messaging and photo management.

Apple updates the MacBook and MacBook Pro with multi-touch and Penryn processorsToday Apple released a much anticipated upgrade to the MacBook and the MacBook Pro, bringing new faster processors, a mult-touch track pad and the same old physical look that they had before. The most significant update is that both the MacBook and the MacBook Pro got new Intel Penryn processing chips along with a few other changes to the notebooks; some good, some not so good.

MacBook Air floats down to earth

Yes…if you hadn’t guessed it…Apple just announced the MacBook Air is now shipping. It also put out word that the expected Apple TV update to let you rent HD movies is “not quite finished.” It should be available in another week or so.

Apple MacBook Air touted as the thinnest notebook in the worldIt looks like those MacBook Air rumors were really not too far off. Today Steve Jobs announced the latest addition to the MacBook lineup at MacWorld in San Francisco, touting it as the thinnest notebook in the world. The MacBook Air measures a mere 0.16 inches at its thinnest point, and it only gets as thick as 0.76 inches at the hinged end.

The Air Mac will start shipping in about two weeks with a retail price of $1,799, and comes with the following features:

MacBook Air Ultraportable thin MacBook rumored from AppleAccording to Wired magazine, a insider to Apple who works at a third party vendor to the company got the “skinny” on the new super-thin ultraportable MacBook that we’ve been hearing rumors about. The MacWorld 2008 keynote speech is just hours away and according to his source Jobs will be announcing a very thin, wireless Apple notebook dubbed the MacBook Air due to it’s like of wires. Supposedly it will have no Ethernet port and rely solely on WiFi. It also will not come with any type of optical CD/DVD drive and could look something like the photoshopped design shown here. There were not details given on actual dimensions, price or real specs but more than likely we’ll get the real scoop later this morning.

The Fujitsu LifeBook P8010 sports a 12.1-inch LED widescreen display housed in a glossy black cover. Under the hood you’ll find a typical Intel Core 2 Duo processor, dual layer multi-format DVD-RW and integrated Intel PRO/Wireless Network Connection wireless LAN with dual diversity antennas. The P8010 is small, with overall dimensions of 11.2 inches x 8.26 inches x 1.37 inches.

Asus Eee PC 701 small notebook computerThe Palm Foleo looks like it will be a pretty interesting device despite it’s questionable necessity and a $600 price tag. When we first read about the Asus Eee PC we thought it might be pretty cool as well, but we’re confident about the Eee in the ‘coolness’ arena now with an expected $199 price tag.

The Asus Eee UMPC looks like its no slouch in the world of 7″ notebooks, either. It’s designed particularly for portability combined with browsing the web with a 7″ screen, full keyboard, webcam and microphone. It has a weight of just 1.9 pounds and promises 512MB of RAM with a flash drive for storage in sizes from 4GB to 16GB. Wireless comes standard and built-in, and rumors of 3G abound as well. It would be nice to see a few more specs or something …

Sony VAIO FZ Blu-Ray Notebook

Sony VAIO FZ Notebook with Blu-RayToday Sony unveiled a new VAIO FZ series laptop which packs a Blu-Ray disc player along with a 15.4 inch widescreen display. This combination results in a lightweight multimedia notebook that can play movies in 1080 HD resolution as well as record and play back personal content on the Blu-Ray media.

Aside from the hi-def player, this new premium model of the VAIO FZ comes with a Centrino Duo processor, a built-in 802.11n wireless LAN and Windows Vista Home Premium. The laptop also has a built-in camera and microphone and support for an ExpressCard to help with those large file transfers.
