Rock Band: EA confirms that Wii will rock you

Wii will rock you
As we speculated earlier this week, EA’s CEO John Riccitiello finally confirmed today that Rock Band will be coming to the Wii. This is no doubt great news for millions of would be rock stars who happen to own a Wii and were feeling just a little left out.

He mentioned this at the end of the question and answer session, when Riccitiello referred off hand to the “coming launch” of a Wii version of the popular game. No word yet on exactly when or a price, but you can now rest easy knowing that it is on the way.

Nyko releases wireless Wii Nunchuck adapter

Posted in Wii Accessories by Reuben Drake on January 30th, 2008

Nyko wireless adapter for the Wii NunchuckEarlier this month during CES 2008 Nyko announced a wireless Nunchuck controller for the Wii. The Nunchuck had the wireless built in and a small adapter attached to the bottom of the Wiimote to connect them, giving you cord-free gaming action for about $30.

Now Nyko has taken into account the fact that many Wii owners already have the Nunchuck controller and really don’t need another. For this Nyko is now launching the Wireless Adapter for the Wii Nunchuck. This adapter runs on two AA’s and connects to the bottom of the Nunchuck remote, wrapping up the cord around it. A wireless adapter connects to the bottom of the Wiimote and lets you now use your existing Nunchuck and rid yourself of the cord in between. You can now completely perfect your arm-flailing windmill style of boxing without the risk of choking yourself or others, but of course there is still the risk of hitting them.

Nintendo wii remotes get color

Wiimotes get colorful
It was only a matter of time. After the initial success of any Nintendo product there follows a plethora of neat and nauseating colors upchucked onto the market. That time is at hand once again. There’s still no official word from Nintendo on anything but white Wii-motes, but now there is a third-party option for those of you bored with the standard white.

One of the first companies to offer a third-party substitute for the Wii-mote is Snakebyte. They are calling them Riimotes. They appear to look very close to the authentic Wii-motes, with the button design styles a bit different. The first models will be available either in a glossy black or a bright purple. Bright purple? Yuck! Maybe if you are playing a My Little Pony game…They should assault your senses in early February.

RockBand Mic reveals the game will be hitting the Wii

Rock Band Mic
It was only a short time ago that Harmonix had finally announced the release of standalone instruments for Rock Band. At the time there was no word of a standalone mic. As it turns out, it is already on sale. The packaging teases us with a single word. Wii.

No, that doesn’t simply mean yes in France. It means that Rockstar should be hitting the Wii sometime soon. This isn’t the best picture, but if you look in the top right corner of the package, you’ll note which systems it’s compatible with: Playstation 3, Wii and Xbox 360. This is interesting because so far Harmonix has been strangely silent about a version of the game for Nintendo’s console.

Game Boy bricks might help your resale value

Game Boy bricks
With the housing market being what it is, homes need all the help they can get. Anything to add some value, should you want to sell down the road. So, why not get some of these Game Boy bricks and redo a garden path in the backyard.

These are the brainchild of a Denmark man who wanted to add some gaming to his architecture. You have to admit, they look pretty nice after they’ve been in place and aged a bit. Here I thought the actual Game Boy was about as useful as a brick these days. The guy put alot of time into perfecting these. At first they would explode in the oven, but he finally got it right. If you have a gaming themed home, why not go the extra mile and sink some of these into your dirt.

Wii Fit coming to North America May 20th

Wii Fit coming to North America May 20th
Since its release on December 1st in Japan, Wii Fit has become a phenomenon in that country, selling over a million units and virtually completely selling out, much like the Wii itself. Sales of the game have done well, but a general upswing in Wii sales has also resulted, with other titles suddenly flying off the shelves. But will it be a hit here in Lard-Ass North America?

Originally the game was supposed to be released in the first quarter of this year, but Nintendo was not even able to meet the supply in Japan. But now, with a May 20th release, we of the North American continent will hopefully soon be shedding some pounds and getting fitter.

Retailer selling Wiis on Ebay

Retailer Slackers rumored to sell Wiis on Ebay for pricing markupsAs if it hasn’t been hard enough to find a Nintendo Wii game console this year, rumor has it that a retail chain called Slackers is taking their shipments of the popular console and selling them on Ebay at a jacked up price.

According to Ars Technica an insider with Slackers stated that any Wiis that they receive, at least in the Illinois/Missouri area stores, are not available for the suggested $249 retail price at the store and are instead marked up to $499 on Ebay. Recently reports say that the Buy It Now price has been dropped to $399.99, which is still $150 over suggested retail by Nintendo.

Nintendo Wii rain checks at Gamestop

Gamestop to offer rain check for the Nintendo Wii to be delivered in JanuaryMaybe it isn’t a marketing scheme and Nintendo really is having trouble keeping up with production for the Nintendo Wii game console. Nintendo is offering hope for some of those still looking for Wii this holiday season, although opening a present with a piece of paper promising a Wii in a month just might not be the same as the real thing.

In a telephone press conference today Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said they the company is working with GameStop to give out “rain checks” to those looking for an Wii this year with a deliver time frame in January of next year.

Nintendo DS Lite bundles in rose & gold

Nintendo DS Lite bundles in rose & gold

2 great new bundles from Nintendo. Looks like they are taking the boy/girl route here. For the boys, the Gold model comes with Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and sports a special Triforce logo on the DS. For the girls(presumably), the Metallic Rose model gives you Nintendogs and adds a paw print in place of the Zelda logo.

Other then the colors and logos being new, you’ll get the same old DS Lite you know and love. If you are a fan of repackaged Nintendo handhelds that have had a repaint, you can pick one up for about $130.

Is a golden Zelda DS Lite in your future?

Rumor is that the Shiny golden DS Lite you see in the lower left of the picture may be headed for retail store shelves soon.It sure is looking that way. Rumor is that the Shiny golden DS Lite you see in the lower left of the picture may be headed for retail store shelves soon. That shouldn’t be a big surprise since we are entering into the holiday season. Plus, Nintendo marketing knows that we like shiny objects. Shiny gold objects, especially. Seriously, we aren’t that hard to please.

The above photograph is believed to have been taken at the Nintendo World Store when “Phantom Hourglass” launched. To make things even more interesting, Engadget is claiming that a certain individual is saying that his company has received orders from Nintendo to design graphics for a “BOX, SYST GOLD W/ZELDA: HOUR USG.” Who knows if this is all true. And if it is true, it could just be a limited run for a contest. But since Santa is coming soon, I’m betting an official announcement from Nintendo will proceed him.

Japan Wii Sales On The Rise

Posted in News,Nintendo,Wii by Chris Weber on July 2nd, 2007

Nintendo Wii console sales continues to rise and beat out rival PS3Not only is Nintendo’s sales of the Wii game console staying ahead of the competition, but they are continuing to rise and pull further away from rival Sony’s PlayStation 3.

Last month we reported that the Wii was outselling the PS3 in Japan at a ratio of 5 to 1 in May with 251,794 units. Reuters is now reporting that these numbers have risen and Nintendo sold 270,974 Wii game console units in the first 24 days of June in Japan. This, compared to the 41,628 units of the PS3 that Sony sold ups the ratio to that of 6 to 1 Wii’s to PS3′s sold. Microsoft’s Xbox 360, which is also a major competitor in the current generation gaming consoles, sold 17,616 consoles during the same period.

This trend of dominate consoles sales from Nintendo …

Nintendo Unveils WiiWare Game Development Service

Posted in News,Nintendo,Wii by Chris Weber on June 27th, 2007

WiiWare Game development service from NintendoNintendo today announced a new game-creation service called WiiWare which will open up game development for anyone to create games to play on the Nintendo Wii game console.

The WiiWare service will enable developers from around the world to create new and unique games that take advantage of the popular, motion-sensitive Wii controllers. If you thought there were some strange and interesting games available that utilize Remote and Nunchuk now, just wait.

While the popularity of the Wii game console along with the massive fun people have with it may alone be enough incentive to draw some developers, Nintendo may also offer the chance for them to make some bank from their game creations. Game creators will have their Wii games placed online on the Wii Shop Channel which can be viewed and downloaded by the masses through redeeming Wii points. …

Yellow Pikachu Nintento DS Lite

Posted in Nintendo DS by Darrin Olson on June 10th, 2007

New yellow Pikachu Nintendo DS Lite to be available in JapanPikachu, one of the most popular Pokemon characters, will be gracing the cover of some select Nintendo DS Lite’s along with spreading its bright Yellow color on the whole system, even the stylus.

This Pikachu Nintendo DS Lite is going to available in limited numbers in Japan, but even the Japanese will have some trouble getting their hands on one. Potential recipients will need to bring themselves to the Pokemon Center in Japan and enter their name in for a lottery drawing. The lucky winners then don’t exactly win a Pikachu DS, but they do win the opportunity to buy one for 16,800 yen ($138). That seems like a little much, but I guess its no worse than people standing in line for hours to get a Wii.

Wii hard drive rumors continue

Posted in Nintendo,Wii by Reuben Drake on June 4th, 2007

Rumors of Nintendo Wii getting a hard drive to support larger games continue, despite Nintendo’s denialRumors continue about the possibility of the Nintendo Wii getting a hard drive, despite Nintendo denying any such claims.

The latest crop of speculation was roused by talks of new Neo Geo game titles coming to the Wii game console which require as much as 330MB of space on the mere 512MB of space available with the console. ComputerandVideoGames.com is also talking of rumors that Nintendo may make an announcement of said hardware to increase the Wii storage capacity at the next E3 show.

The Xbox 360 and Sony PS3, Wii’s competition in the current generation game consoles, both utilize hard drives for storing games and other multimedia files, and speculation of the Wii getting one has been around since shortly after its launch. We’ll keep watching for some type of solid indication, but …
