Nintendo Wii at Toys R Us and Best Buy for $169.99

The glory days of Nintendo’s console are well behind it and so on May 15th it is due to get a lower price to move more units. But why wait? Both Best Buy and Toys ‘R’ Us already have the Wii console on sale for $170 today.

It doesn’t appear to be a permanent price cut as it states that it is a “Limited Time Offer!” but we are pretty sure other retailers follow this trend very soon. After all, every Wii sold at $170 puts some money in the big N’s pockets so it can produce something capable of doing better than 480p.

W!! External Hard Drive Casing looks like a Nintendo Wii

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2010

Is that a Wii? The packaging would lead you to believe that it is, but actually it’s a W!!. A hard drive enclosure that looks like a miniature black Wii. Get it? W!!? Very clever. It will house a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive and offers a USB 2.0 connection that you can connect to your PC or Mac.

As an added bonus, the package includes some tiny Wiimote-like key chains that are also whistles. Umm. Okay. It’ll cost you $9.70, which isn’t bad for a fake Wii that will hold your hard drive.

nerfswitchshotex3-sgI am a big fan of NERF Blasters and we have a bunch of them around our house. You never know when you might walk around a corner and take a NERF dart to the head. PDP unveiled a new NERF Switch Shot EX-3 blaster today that also works with the Nintendo Wii.

PDP says the device is Nintendo licensed and can be used in three ways. First, it will shoot a pair of darts that store under the barrel waiting to be used. The device also has a Red Reveal used to play the NERF N-Strike Elite game from EA.

MeWe Quad Wii Remote ChargerAnyone who plays with their Wii a lot knows that the batteries go dead way faster than you want them too. Plus, it’s not all that nice looking to have four Wii remotes lying in a pile on your entertainment center or coffee table. MeWe has a new device that not only keeps the remotes powered up, but also gives a neat place to store them.

The device is called the MeWe World Quad Charger and as you can guess from its name, the gadget charges four Wii Remotes at one time. The system includes the charger base and four fast charging Ni-MH battery packs that are good for up to 13 hours of play per remote.

Nintendo working to fix its Wii bit of storage

Nintendo creating storage solution for the Wii game console. When the Wii game console could only play media on external discs the issue of storage was not a problem, but now that owners can download, store and play games online the issue of storage, as with competitor consoles such as the PS3 and Xbox 360, has suddenly become an issue.

Sure you can store some data onto SD cards and swap things in and out of 512MB of internal Wii storage, but that capacity is quickly becoming inadequate and is putting a damper on those wanting to download a lot of games not to mention the ability for Nintendo to sell more games online.

The Wii phone a step closer to reality

Wii phone
We told you about the possibility of a Wii phone awhile back, but now thanks to one clever fellow, we may be one step closer. It’s a combination of a Wiimote and a DoCoMo cellphone all slapped together with geek love.

Maybe this will make Nintendo rush one to market sometime soon, but I doubt it. The wrist strap is a nice touch. Just in case you get a call that requires you to want to throw the thing. This is one phone that would give the iPhone some competition. Needless to say we love this phone and want one yesterday.

Nintendo Wii outselling the Sony PS3 game console in Japan by a ratio of 5 to 1Not only has the Nintendo Wii been consistently leading sales for the current generation game consoles in the U.S., Reuters is reporting that the Wii outsold its rival Sony PS3 in console units by a whopping ratio of 5 to 1 in Japan last month.

In May Nintendo reportedly sold 251,794 Wii game consoles compared to 45,321 PS3′s from Sony. The trend appears to be a growing one as well, as the ratio was 4 to 1 in favor of the Wii the previous month.

The Wii game console has led sales of the current generation game consoles in the US for four months in a row including April, and is expected to have led sales again in May. For the first three of the four-month run, Sony actually …

Wii Continues to Outsell PS3 in Japan

Nintendo Wii outsells PS3 in JapanAccording to a Bloomberg report, sales of the Nintendo Wii Japan continue to dominate over its Playstation rival.

Back in January SlipperyBrick reported that Wii sales were already significantly ahead in Japan after its launch on December 2nd, even though the PS3 launched about 3 weeks earlier on November 11th.

As of March 25th, Nintendo has reportedly sold 1.95 million Wii game console units in Japan, which is more than twice as many compared to 812,000 PS3 consoles sold by Sony in Japan since each of their respective launch dates.

The PS3 is a little more pricey game console, however. Actually sales yen makes the difference not quite as great with the PS3 having 47.6 billion yen in sales versus Nintendo’s 48.7 billion yen during the same period.

Did you Order Your Nintendo Wii?

Nintendo Wii

GameStop, which is probably the biggest video game retailer in the US, said on it will be accepting limited pre-orders for the Nintendo’s Wii video game console yesterday (Friday), one per household. If you haven’t gotten your order in, you better get on it.

All you need is 50 bones to reserve, but many stores were reporting to be out of availability within minutes. Maybe it’s hype, but you can call your local Gamestop store first to see if they have some left. No online pre-ordering is/was available, but they say they will have something at a later date.

Nintendo expects to supply 4 million Nintendo Wii units to stores by year end, and Sony expects to ship 2 million PS3s in the same time period, so by my count if you missed the pre-order you just might be ok.
