The AirPiano not as cool as the air guitar

The AirPiano not as cool as the air guitar
If you’ve ever wanted to play music without touching the instrument, the AirPiano lets you do just that. It’s never going to be a star like the air guitar, then again the air guitar makes no noise. The AirPiano is designed by Omer Yosha. It’s a musical interface that allows you to play and control software instruments just by moving your hands in the air. It is a virtual matrix of keys and faders, each assigned with MIDI messages and ready to be triggered.

It’s a lot like the ultra dorky BEAMZ music system, just a thousand times less dorky. It’s a shame that no one can be taken seriously with these things. Check out the video below. Kinda neat.

Okay, here’s marketing 101. Let’s say you have something crappy that won’t sell to the public. What do you do? Answer: Use the Star Wars angle. Let’s say you have a round ball of wood, a long black blob and a brown furry…something. Call them Darth Vader, Chewbacca and the Death Star. Now they’ll sell to geeks who have more income then they do common sense.

These designs by Benjamin Males are “The Singer, The Drummer and The Dreamer”. Huh? Who is who? The Singer has five keys and is “influenced by classical instruments such as the Violin…and is created from solid Cherry wood. It is made using 5 Axis CNCing, which enables a smooth spiral to be ‘carved’ into the cherry.” Whatever. The Drummer loops drum-beats, creating rhythm in the musical composition. Influenced by African drums such as the Djembe, the Drummer will also throw off a secondary percussive sound when you tap the flat section. Again whatever.

iChime musical doorbell “plays anything”

iChime musical doorbell “plays anything”
I’m not sure how much more mileage they can get out of the letter “i”, but here’s another product brought to you by the letter “i”. The iChime Doorbell will replace your ding dong style doorbell with any sound in the universe that you can think of. You can choose pre-programmed selections, record your own song with the built-in microphone, or use an iPod, CD Player, PC, or MP3 with line-in jack.

What this means is that doorbells are going the way of ringtones and anything is fair game. Maybe Alice Cooper saying, “Welcome to my nightmare”, or some sound bytes from vintage TV like, “Lucy, I’m home”. How about Pink Floyd, “Hello, hello… Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone home?” It will cost you $90, but if you are easily entertained like me, it’s probably money well spent.

Akva Sound musical waterbed

Akva Sound musical waterbed
What makes the Akva Sound Musical Waterbed interesting is that it provides a dedicated base where you can place loudspeakers inside the bed. Which I imagine would make it possible to have the ultimate loudspeaker alarm that would catapult you out of the bed. But that’s not what it’s for.

The base plate is available as an accessory or as an integrated part of the waterbed and it’s more about audio options. All you need to do is to connect it to an audio source and play your favorite music. Sounds great, but most people would probably opt for the audio system they already have nearby. No word on pricing at this time. What’s that guy doing anyway? Looks like he’s getting ready to levitate off the bed…Or fart… I think that’s a guy…Now I’m not sure.

Musical SpongeBob digital thermometer

Musical SpongeBob digital thermometer
It never ceases to amaze me just how many SpongeBob related products are on the market. You would think his popularity would wane, but he must have nearly as many products as Star Wars by now. It also amazes me, how some of these products are not very well thought out.

For instance, this SpongeBob thermometer. It’s all cute and kid-like and la-de-da. It will even play music while being used. It actually plays the “SpongeBoob SquarePants Theme” which is all well and good, until you realize that this thermometer is for “oral, underarm AND rectal use”. Puts a whole other angle on any music playing cuteness. I mean really, is it weird for a kid to have a Spongebob’s head sticking out of his butt, playing the theme song? You tell me.
