There’s no shortage of iPod alarm clocks on the market, but every now and then you see one that stands out. Take the iDesign SongView for instance. It suckers you in with it’s 1.3 inch scrolling display on the base, which cycles between the date and time, current song, artist, playlist and album when you’re listening to your iPod. You can actually see it from across the room.

Get it? SongView? It comes with the usual remote for controlling all the features, line out and line in jacks for external speakers and will take a non-iPod MP3 player as well. Not too bad for $99.99.

iRiver just rolled out the iRiver E50 MP3 player measuring only 7 mm thick, with a nice brushed metal texture in front. It supports most of popular audio formats and FM radio. Each purchase of the iRiver E50 comes with a pair of earbuds and it’s available in 2, 4 or 8GB storage sizes. The player also offers a 1.8 inch display, voice recorder, and 52 hours of battery life.

Lisbon based Portuguese designer Nuno Teixeira designed this ultra slim Digit MP3 Player concept. It’s user friendly and comes with a wireless stereo headset and 20GB of built-in memory. Design-wise it’s a thing of beauty. And it does away with wires completely.

Just look at those sleek curves and soft, shiny surfaces. Plus it’s slimmer then a model who just went to powder her nose and lose her dinner. It’s damn sexy, that’s what it is. Too bad it’s only a concept right now. But it will happen soon enough as the wireless headset thing is already here. We just need more of this kinda sexy.

Look, we’re no stranger to the iRiver Mickey Mouse MP3 player. Kids and women seem to love it, despite the fact that it freaks us the hell out.

Well, iRiver has updated the Mickey on crack cute little player by changing its facial expressions to match the function you’re using. Say, adjusting the volume, skipping a track, shuffling through tracks etc. This just makes it all the creepier. No doubt it will hypnotize children and train them to form some sort of crap-gadget army of the living dead.

Creative is sick of living up to it’s name apparently, so why not make a swell barnyard MP3 player. Like the Zen Moo for instance. The Creative Zen Moo is in the shape of a cow’s face. They were so un-Creative that they didn’t even think to make you pull on the udders to milk some music out. This player looks like it’s pretty much a Zen Stone, including a tiny OLED display, 2B of internal memory, 20 hour playback time and an integrated FM tuner. The Creative Zen Moo was specially designed to pay a tribute to the year of the cow in the Chinese zodiac calendar for 2009.

Microsoft will announce price cuts across the board for its flash Zunes tomorrow. Good news if you are bargain shopping. hey aren’t Earth shattering deals, but every bit helps right? The 4GB model will drop to $100, the 8GB will go for $140 and 16GB for $180. The price drops make them all cheaper than the equivalent iPod nanos.

If you’re looking for an affordable MP3 player, the Sansa Fuze is a nice slim device that feels high-quality in your hands. It’s available in several color options. The device sounds good too, offers a ton of features for the price, just $80, $100, and $120 for the 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB models. The Sansa Fuze is not new by any means, but it holds it’s own thanks to the great price, easy interface, and a bunch of features. It even has an expansion slot that accepts micro SDHC cards.

Some features include: an FM tuner, Rhapsody DNA integration, photo, video, and a voice recorder. The scroll wheel makes navigation a real joy. I really couldn’t find anything to complain about with this player. The battery life is very good whether you are watching videos or listening to tunes. If you plan on buying a music player this Christmas, the SanDisk Sansa Fuze is the way to go. Drop the small amount of dough required and drop it in a stocking.

This Heavy Metal-esqe skull belt buckle will make your crotch more hardcore and play music. It holds your pants up while holding 1GB of tunes. It also displays LED light patterns, but can’t do so while playing music. The manufacturer claims that it can also be used “as a handheld weapon,” though I’m not sure how that works.

Maybe it distracts your opponent with it’s light show. Maybe you’re opponent will feel sorry for you and your fashion sense, giving you an opening to undo your belt and give them a beat down complete with soundtrack and flashing lights. You can get it now at wholesale, but do you really want to be that guy?

Baylis is back with an update to their Eco Media Player, called the Revolution. You might remember that when we tested the original, we liked it for what it was, but our main gripe was navigation and ease of use. Does the Revolution fare better? Read on.

The new Luxe MP3 player is the latest addition to the Philips GoGear line. It features Bluetooth 2.1 functionality so you can use the the audio device with your cell phone. It will allow you to pause your tunes so you can answer a call. It also features 10-hours of playback time and 100-hours in standby. The Philips Luxe comes with 2GB of storage space and a built-in FM radio. The sparkling and prism-like outside is different and available in red or white, priced at about $95 when it’s released in Singapore next month.

As our devices get smaller and smaller, the idea of a capsule-sized gadget looks more and more likely. This capsule may be one of your next iPods one day soon. Though I’m not sure anyone will be able to use the buttons. Luckily, there’s only one button on it called ‘Home’ where users can touch it and browse the same way they do on the iPhone.

When the capsule is docked to the mini speaker cradle, data in the iPod capsule can be sent and received from the cradle at the same time. The speaker cradle also functions as iPod docking speakers and a charger. After this thing, the next step will be to swallow the player and somehow manipulate it using thought sent to your stomach acids.

There are a million eye-catching iPod accessories, but this one manages to stand out nicely. This odd looking iPod dock/speaker combo is from designer Jean-Michel Jarre and resembles something you would charge your lightsaber in that also doubles as a heater. It’s called the AeroSystem, retro in name and design.

It’s currently available only in France, and costs about $580, complete with an iPod-inspired remote. Seems to me that it’s more of a suicide station for when your iPod hears about the state of the economy or that Apple has released a new model. Stationed high atop it’s high-rise, it is free to make the decision to jump or not jump.

The iPod pretty much owns the day in the world of MP3 players, but that doesn’t mean they can’t give it a drastic upgrade in the future. Designer Gopinath Prasana prefers a wearable player and so created the iBangle concept. Wearing it is better then carrying an extra gadget after all.

This MP3 player is in the form of a bracelet or bangle, hence the name. It features a multi-touch track pad so you can control your playlist. It’s pretty small, so you won’t be watching videos or movies, making this like the iPod shuffle. Since everyone has different wrist sizes, the iBangle adjusts by inflating a cushion so it will fit snugly.

The Twinned MP3 player requires two devices to join up in order to function as one unit. When you break them apart wish-bone style, they can still function as standalone MP3 players, but the playlist in each will be identical to each other…forever. The creator, Liberty Fearns, explains: “The unit must first be snapped in half in order to become functional, creating a formal ritual shared between two people. Music is uploaded to a shared online play list, which will only download new music when both MP3 players are in their docks, so that audio content always remains the same. Users build a soundtrack to their relationship, like a growing mixtape.”

So, is there a future in co-dependent MP3 players for couples like Muffy and Buffy with the matching sweaters tied around their waist? Who knows. Might be good for love-struck teens. I find the whole thing creepy and really don’t want to speak of it again.

Hopefully having speakers in your helmet won’t distract you enough to land you in the hospital, but if does at least you’ll have tunes while waiting on the ambulance.
