CinemaNow launches Wii movie streaming service in Japan

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on June 25th, 2009

wii-sb1CinemaNow has announced that it’s partnering with Fujisoft to deliver movies to the Nintendo Wii. The service will initially launch in Japan, where the Japanese will be able to watch catalog titles from Paramount Pictures. The service is called “Minna no Theater Wii” over there.

Will we see this hot in the states? We hope so. But you never know. I’d rather watch movies on a higher quality console myself, but to each their own.

Yoostar entertainment system launching in August

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on May 21st, 2009

yoostar-sbThere was so much to see at CES 2009 back in January that I missed a lot of it. Each year at the show, there are some very interesting products that define new categories and let people do things that many haven’t even thought of.

One of the products I missed at the show was the Yoostar system that uses a green screen and a high-resolution webcam to make some movie magic. The system includes a webcam, mic, remote control, stand, and green screen and allows users to insert themselves into popular movies.

RunPee tells you when to pee during a movie

RunPee tells you when to pee during a movieRunPee is a useful tool if you truly love movies and have an overactive bladder. RunPee is a movie review site that doesn’t care if the movie sucks or not. It’s not about praising great works of art or panning celluloid crap.

RunPee is all about telling you which scenes are the best parts for you to leave for a few minutes, so you can go pee. Get it? RunPee? From what I hear about Terminator Salvation, you can just get up any old time and you won’t miss much. Feel free to be constipated and read a newspaper or three.

Nokia featured in new Star Trek movieMany of you are loving the new Star Trek movie, while many of you are having high geek blood-pressure over things like Beastie Boys songs and this…Nokia product placement. One thing is for sure, this isn’t the Star Trek many of us grew up with.

If you’ve seen the reboot, then you probably noticed the Nokia commercial cleverly inserted in the flick. The touchscreen device is in the dash of young Kirk’s Corvette that he is taking for a joyride. Check it out below while it’s still available on youtube.

LEGO movie theater with working projector

Posted in Home Theater by Conner Flynn on March 31st, 2009

LEGO movie theater with working projectorThis tiny LEGO movie theater is awesome. It actually features a working, very tiny movie projector. The projector works at 24 fps, so it may not be good picture quality, but Lego minifigs have a different eyesight than you have. It’s nicely detailed. Even the seats are numbered. Make sure you check out the video below.

The builder, Ricardo M. Oliv, did an awesome job. Now all he needs is full length movies and he can sell tickets to other geeks who can sit their minifigs in the seats with a miniature popcorn and soda.

The Timelapse Garden video cameraHere’s a cool video camera from Hammacher Schlemmer, specifically designed to create a timelapse video of your garden so that you can keep track of your garden’s progress. Pretty neat. You could make your own Discovery Channel type movie.

It features two different capture modes: as close as 20-inches or a 54-inch wide field of view with the capability to take a picture at one of six preset intervals. Anything from every 5 seconds to every 24 hours and it combines them into a single 1280 x 1024 resolution AVI movie file. Nice.

Fandango launches iPhone App

Posted in iPhone by Shane McGlaun on March 17th, 2009

fandango-logo-sbI like going to the movies and typically when I go it’s a last minute thing while I am out running around with the wife and finding movie times is a priority. I have an app that I use frequently for finding show times that leaves a bit to be desired. Often it doesn’t list all the movies showing at my local theater and show times are wrong.

Fandango has a new application that promises more accuracy and allows you to buy tickets for the movie you want right on your phone. The app is available free on iTunes right now and offers movie times for 16,000 screens around the country. In addition to movie times, the app shows trailers for films and fan ratings for movies.

Star Trek trailer sets download records on Apple.com

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on March 12th, 2009

startrek-sbIt’s very nearly the ides of March meaning that the summer is only a few months away bringing with it the summer movie season. Certainly one of the most anticipated movies of the season is the new J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek film.

The trailers I have seen for the flick appear to do the series justice, all without the over acting William Shatner made famous. Paramount Pictures announced recently that the latest trailer for the film that debuted March 6 exclusively on Apple.com has broken download records for the site.

The New U.S.S. Enterprise

Posted in Sci-Fi by Conner Flynn on November 11th, 2008

The New U.S.S. EnterpriseOr, the old one actually. But new to us in 2008. The above pic should get your geek juices flowing like Romulan ale at a Klingon orgy. The first look at J.J.’s Enterprise. It’s a mash-up of the classic and movie versions of the ship. It’s pretty sweet looking. JJ Abrams was struck by that scene in ST: The Motion Picture where Kirk takes a shuttlecraft to the ship and we get a nice long look that shows us all of the stunning detail, including many of the individual tiles that make up the hull. Apparently there will be a similar scene in the new flick. What do you guys think? You like?
