Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on June 14th, 2010

The recently relaunched ESPN3 online portal is coming to Xbox 360. Exclusively. It was just announced during Microsoft’s pre-E3 press conference. Sportscenter hosts took to the stage demonstrating it, using footage from a USC / Ohio State game.

It has built in Kinect controller support, instant replays, highlights, polls and more, all accessible with your fingers or by the sound of your voice. It should be interesting to see how well this does. Should please many sports fans.

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on June 14th, 2010

Project Natal” has now become Microsoft Kinect. Several demos were shown, like Star Wars and even tiger petting. The Kinect interface to the Dashboard was also shown and a video chat app where you can talk to up to four friends and also share photos.

Nothing on price or date yet, but we can expect a holiday release. Price rumors are as high as $150. Likely it will be cheaper than that since this is a console add-on and not a full console. We will have to wait and see.

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on June 13th, 2010

There has been no official confirmation, but word is that Microsoft could be ready to unveil an Xbox 360 Slim at E3. Sony has the PlayStation 3 slim after all and they do want to compete.

Let’s not forget that the PlayStation Move and Project Natal motion sensing controllers are just around the corner too. Things are heating up in the console wars. A slim Xbox 360 will be good as long as they don’t remove any important features to do it.

PhotoFast makes iPad compatible with a Microsoft webcam

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on June 7th, 2010

There may still be an integrated camera coming for the iPad, but until then, one company has your back. PhotoFast has an early prototype that is basically just a Microsoft LifeCam in the dock port, but when it releases later this year, it will be a fully custom two megapixel webcam that manages VGA video and will apparently be compatible with some IM apps.

PhotoFast is also hard at work on an iPad TV tuner and a dock that reads flash memory. Those will also be available for the iPhone/iPod when it is released.

The Star Trek crew beams into Microsoft offices

Posted in Microsoft by Conner Flynn on May 23rd, 2010

To boldly go where no man has gone before…And occasionally beam into Microsoft. Microsoft has an amazing Star Trek sculpture in the lobby of their Studio D office, that continually gives the appearance that Kirk, Spock and the rest are materializing. How cool is that?

The illusion is simple. Beads. The installation was inspired by the classic 1967 episode “Mirror, Mirror,” and was created by Devorah Sperber, an artist known for creating illusions using unconventional materials. This artwork is made up of spools, chenille stems, and semi-translucent beads.

Project Natal to cost $200?

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on May 17th, 2010

Swedish retailers to the rescue! Looks like some Swedish retailers have listed the Xbox 360 motion controller Project Natal for 1,499 SEK, which means $200 in US money. If this is accurate, it isn’t looking good for Natal. Most games already cost $60.

This is not the finalized price point yet since it could be a placeholder figure, but if it does turn out to be accurate, I know that I would rather spend my money on quality games that don’t use Natal.

So there ya go. Soon you’ll be able to play all kinds of Motion controlled games on your Xbox 360, while looking a bit less silly than those using a wii. And it’s about time.

Microsoft Courier dies an early death

Posted in Microsoft by Shane McGlaun on April 30th, 2010

The HP Slate isn’t the only future gadget we have been hearing a lot about that was killed off this week. Microsoft has terminated the slick dual screen Courier tablet project.

The odd thing is that we had been hearing that the Courier would be coming to market in 2011. I think that perhaps some of the companies are figuring out that an expensive device that is only a netbook minus a keyboard simply won’t sell.
