Windows Mobile 6.5 honeycomb menu is no more

Windows Mobile 6.5 honeycomb menu is no moreSome user feedback of Windows Mobile 6.5 has led to some changes in its UI. The most obvious change is the removal of the honeycomb. It may still have Trix and Lucky Charms hidden away inside somewhere, but the honeycomb is gone.

The icon grid is still arranged in the same way, but the actual hexagonal icon containers are no more. The second most obvious change would have to be the new scrolling, which limits flick scrolling to one page at a time once.

Ads coming to your paused TiVo menu

Ads coming to your paused TiVo menuThis is going to honk off many of you. According to a press release issued earlier today, TiVo will now be offering ad space on its pause menu. I hear you. It sucks. But it’s your fault.

The spam messages ads are designed to outsmart those who fast-forward through the ads (everyone). Advertisers will be able to target viewers of a specific show, or they can cast a wider net and advertise within genres or keywords of program descriptions. At the moment, only Series2 owners are subjected to the new ads as part of the 9.3.2 update.

EPOS-lite: Touch interface cash register and built-in menu

EPOS-lite: Touch interface cash register and built-in menuEPOS-lite is a cash register with a touch interface that also has a built-in menu. It was showcased at the University of Wolverhampton degree show 08 and at New Designers 08, London. It’s good for the environment because it eliminates the need for a separate menu that holds the pricing details. Not only that, but it makes it easy to update the menu.

It’s light, it’s convenient, it’s on every table. This is the sort of innovation that makes life easier. It’s the little things after all. The concept device also features a wireless charging option for on-table recharging. Designer Stephen Allport knows what he’s doing and he obviously has an eye for what is needed to make life easier on both sides of the table. Awesome concept and we’d love to see this one in the future.
