Netflix has proven to be very successful with its online movie rental service. Netflix also offer subscribers a streaming instant movie service that allows users to watch movies on the PC or TV with appropriate hardware.

The problem for users on Mac computers that are Netflix members is that there was no streaming media player for the Mac. Netflix has now announced the latest version of its instant watching service based on Microsoft Silverlight. The new player will allow users on Intel-based Mac systems to enjoy streaming titles.

Nothing much new to see here, but since we have been taking a look at the pissing contest between Microsoft and Apple, I thought I’d share this one as well. Microsoft’s marketing guys are spending all the money on advertising Vista instead of actually fixing Vista, so he’s holding a bake sale with some pricey cupcakes. When will it end?

Amex Digital has stepped up to the plate to give MacBook & MacBook Pro owners the capability to watch or burn Blu-ray Discs with this external unit. It’ll burn BD-RE / -R (single-layer) discs at 2x, while dual-layer versions will only burn at 1x; blank DVDs at a rate of 4x to 8x. The price isn’t too bad at $289. Steve Jobs may have let you down, but Amex Digital has your back. Comes in glossy black or white.

Targus has launched its first line of Mac accessories, a bunch of stuff in stunning Wii white. There’s a $70 Bluetooth Laser Mouse, a $50 Wireless Mouse, and an $80 Bluetooth Presenter. Each features a touch-sensitive scroll button. On the presenter, it will switch to cursor control, while it will give you four-way scrolling on the mice.

If that’s not enough, there’s also a $50 USB file-transfer cable for direct file transfers between PCs and Macs, as well as a $30 four-port compact USB hub. Want more? How about MacBook and MacBook Pro privacy screens from $50 to $80, and a $50 dual-fan cooling pad. All can be had right now.

If you’re going to promote your own platform while dissing the other guy’s, it’s probably a good idea to not use the other guy’s to create your commercial. Turns out that phase two of the “I’m a PC” advertising against Apple was created on a Mac. Ironic. What are the chances that Apple is going to run with this and make fun of them for it? Probably pretty good. Metadata found in the images of the PC user featured on the “I’m a PC” web site tells the tale.

The data showed that the images were produced using Macs that were running Adobe Creative Suite 3. Microsoft responded by saying that “as is common in almost all campaign workflow, agencies and production houses use a wide variety of software and hardware to create, edit and distribute content, including both Macs and PCs.” After that the metadata was gone.

What can you say about a paddle that will inflict not only pain but brand others with Apple’s logo? We aren’t all born with the mark ya know. This device is great for so many reasons. If you’re an Apple hater, you can run around Zorro style and give those iPhone users the what for with a good smack. If you love Apple, you may want to brand even your girlfriend with the famous logo for some reason, though you will surely pay dearly.

It’s also a great way to incorporate your love of gadgetry into some of your questionable bedroom activities. Hey, I’m not judging. Of course, it’s created from a ping pong paddle and a stencil. Hell have your own Mac/Apple cult, wearing black robes. Smack! “Thank you sir, may I have another?”

Here’s something for old school Mac fans who need a little geek chic. The kind of geek chic that will throw your back out. Someone over at Instructables converted a 1988 Macintosh SE into a chiropractor’s dream. A chunky, spine dislodging MacPack. Basically you just hollow out a Mac and attach some straps. I’m sure you won’t stand out at all. And I can’t see anyone throwing rocks at you, trying to break the screen…

Logitech launched the diNovo Edge for Windows computers a long time ago, and it is one of the best keyboards ever from Logitech in the opinion of many users. I used one exclusively for a long time until I got tired of changing it out for my gaming keyboard every time I wanted to play a video game.

Mac users are being embraced by Logitech with a new version of the diNovo Edge designed specifically for the Mac. The keyboard is called the Logitech diNovo Edge Mac Edition and it is the first diNovo keyboard designed specifically for the Mac. The Mac edition of the Edge has all the features the original Edge offered including semi-translucent Plexiglas on the frame, orange backlighting, and a very thin 0.5-inch profile.

Logitech has a long history of making some of the best webcams available for computer users. What Logitech doesn’t have much of a history offering are Mac compatible webcams. In fact this week Logitech announced its first ever Mac compatible webcam that uses premium technologies.

The Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac has Carl Zeiss optics and is compatible with iChat and Skype on the Mac. The camera also uses a voice coil motor for its focusing system rather than a stepper motor. Thus provides faster focusing and allows the webcam to focus on objects as close as 10cm from the lens.

Fujitsu has announced a new mobile scanner designed for Mac users. It is called the Fujitsu ScanSnap S300M and it prices around $295.

The Fujitsu ScanSnap S300M is a color, duplex ADF (automatic document feeder) scanner which works with Mac OS X Leopard. It can work via USB connectivity and offers which Fujitsu says is one touch conversion of paper documents into PDF files. It measures a compact 11.2” x 3.7” x 3.0” and weighs a little over three pounds.

The iStick is designed by Alexei Mikhailov and is roughly the size of a lipstick tube, with four touchscreens. The white cube on the end does tend to ruin the look some, but it still manages to look pretty neat. It has Wi-Fi, so you can browse the iTunes Store on a screen the size of your finger.

The designer admits that the iStick isn’t for viewing movies and the screen is too small for effective photo viewing. He thinks of it more as a brother to the iPod shuffle. It’s interesting, and for some reason makes me realize that this is the way that product packaging will be headed in the future.
