We heard about the Libre eReader from Aluratek back in late 2009. The device was one of the lower priced eReaders out there at $179 when we first caught wind of the device. Borders has announced that it will now be selling the Libre.

Pre-orders are being taken now for a black version of the Libre at $119.99, making it $60 less than the original price. Other than lower rice and the black hue, the Libre is the same. It uses a 5-inch monochrome reflective light LCD.

The Libre eBook Reader PRO doesn’t have an e-Ink display, instead it has a monochrome reflective light LCD with a 2GB SD card. That sets it apart from the other recent eBook readers. And it’s only $179. The reader even boasts 24 hours of continuous use and supports MP3 and photos.

It’s only 5 inches and can handle ePub, PDF, TXT, Mobi, PRC and RTF formats. That makes it handy for those of you who download books from “non-official” sources. If you don’t download, the Libre comes with 100 “free” books as well.
